Eagles Pride Golf Course - Green/Red
About
Eagles Pride Golf Course has long been known as one of the best military courses in the country and luckily for golfers, it's open to the public. Originally opened in 1940, the course started as the 18-hole Fort Lewis Golf Course. Another nine was added in 1979 but it wasn’t until the mid-1990s that it became Eagles Pride. The three nines are called the Green, Red, and Blue, and they are played in different 18-hole combinations. The Green/Red Course starts with the newest and most challenging of the three nines. The course will test you with plenty of trees, water hazards, undulating slopes, and even the occasional blind shot. There are some tough holes but players of all skill levels could enjoy any of the nines.
Previously known as Green/Red at Fort Lewis Golf Course.

Greens
Greens were terrible, patchy, uneven, super slow.
Poor
I booked my tee time on golfnow and when I arrived, there was only one course open and all nine holes had temporary greens. The staff would not give me a refund. We only played 9 holes. There was nothing on golfnow to show that they had only 9 holes open and had temporary greens. I paid for 18 holes!!!!
Fun Course
The course was not crowded so pace of play was great. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The fairways were in decent shape as were the tee boxes, but the greens were in pretty rough shape. The edges of most of the greens were just sand with no grass making putting somewhat of a challenge, but overall a fun course to play. Definitely worth the reasonable price I paid to play!
Poor Customer Service Detracts From a Decent Course
The quality of customer service at Eagle's Pride has declined quite noticeably over the past year. It's not a smooth, professional staff behind the counter, but rather a harried, often abrupt group who are easily distracted and overwhelmed. Small things matter: When my friend and I purchased rounds which included a cart and lunch, I had to remind the counter guy about the lunch vouchers. He dug them out...but conveniently forgot to mention that the Caddie Shack Grill wasn't open that day. We discovered that fact when stopping at the turn. The staff does stuff like processing the annual passes for customers, which takes 10 minutes or so, while leaving golfers trying to check in for their tee times stacked up in line. Sometimes you'll get a mumbled apology, but it's just as likely that you'll be grumped at for causing the backup.
Nice course for the money, plays long.
The course was in good shape, only a few bad spots on some of the greens. The fairways were great, but the rough was thick and lush, so stay out if you can. The course plays long and has some nice features. Plenty of bunkers and water on a few holes. Great price and included lunch
A sleeper near seattle
Lots of contours on greens, course in great shape....Played green and blue, tough rough, so keep ball in fairway.....Great time and great bargain!!!
Eagle's Pride
A fun course. Very walkable. Great staff. I look forward to playing it again
Greens in poor condition
Play too slow, starter was not nice, course in terrible condition. Greens were very bad.
Military Customer Service
While the overall conditions of this course are good, the lack of customer service could use some improvement. Being a military run course, they have much to learn about how to treat the non military customer. Shoddy service makes people go elsewhere!! When sun up is at 5:10am, don't open the pro shop at 6:30am ( my 6:40am tee time was rushed to say the least considering I walked out the pro shop door with 2 minutes to spare!) and when the group behind us called the marshall on us due to perceived slow play, take into consideration that you allowed a twosome out in separate carts behind us, so there was no way our foursome would be able to keep pace. The marshall scolded us and then proceeded to spy on our group for several holes. We finished in 4 hours 15 minutes which should be normal. Beverage girl was pleasant and restaurant staff were ok.
Twice through 9 on green course
Late evening booking, and I was told the other two 9 hole courses were closed for an 18 hole tournament - so play my 18- I was asked to play the green 9 hole course twice. Had a good time.
Customer Service needed
I have played this course over 15 times from June to September of 2015. I really enjoy this course and consider it one of the best public courses in the Olympia/Lacey area. It has a unique, undulating setting that is secluded from road noise (Once you're past hole 3) and has no houses lining the fairways or greens. At times you feel as if you're hiking through a forest. I do recommend playing this course to anyone who has not played it yet.
As muhc as I enjoy this course I have been disappointed the last 2 times I've played here. My first bad experience happened in late August 2015 when I showed up to the course and the guy at the front counter asked, "What do you need?". I let him know that we had paid for a tee time on GolfNow.com for 2 people at 4:30 pm. He brusquely asked, "Is your partner here?". I assured him my playing partner would be there by the time we were scheduled to tee off, at which point he informed me, "you're getting a cart with this, but you need to have the cart back by 7:30". I said that shouldn't be a problem. As I got into a cart and began pulling away he came out the front door and said that's not your cart, I gave you a different number. I said I was told by the cart guy last time I was here that I was to just grab any cart, that it didn't matter which number it was. He asked me who it was and so I described the guy as the older Asian guy who takes the carts in at night. He proceeded to tell me there was no Asian guy who worked here. I told him there was (I've seen him there almost every time I play the course in the late afternoon for the past year), but decided to drop the subject and find the cart with the correct number. As I was getting into my "correct" cart he told me, "The Asian guy doesn't run this place so don't listen to him." I said, "Ok" as I drove away to get my round started. We finished by 6:45 p.m.
The very next time I golfed there (9/9/2015 at 12:56 p.m.) I got caught in traffic due to an accident on the Freeway. I called 30 mins prior to my tee time to let them know I would probably not make it there until just after my tee time due to traffic. I was told by a guy on the phone that they would have to try to fit me in somewhere if that was possible. So, now I'm thinking they have a full tee sheet for the afternoon. We happened to make it to the course right at our tee time and wouldn't you know it was the same guy as before. We got our cart and were able to start our round about 5 minutes late. There were no golfers on the course ahead of or behind us that we could see. The course was recently sanded for the coming rain/cold months so the fairways were pretty heavily sanded and made the play a little less enjoyable than normal.
With those experiences aside I still really enjoy this course and look forward to playing it every time I go there. The customer service could be better, but it's definitely worth the drive.
Starters wanted
I have played this course many times and it is always challenging and enjoyable. On the day that this review is being written for was a day a little different. It was Friday 4 September 2015. The only issue I had that day was the lack of a starter. There was a group of 4 in front of my group of 4 and a group of 4 behind us. There was also a single (Steve) that had the same tee time as I did. All three groups... And Steve were at the tee box at the same time. There was no starter present to organize the gaggle. Needless to say, we worked it out and all teed off with minimal drama; although a stater present would of eliminated the need for me to "take charge" and hopefully not upset anyone.
Great golf course though.
Eagles Pride review
Fun course, played wit 3 buddies. Pace was pretty good. Greens are probably the toughest part of the course. several elevated Tee's make things fun also. Overall, fun course to play.
Sad
I've played this course many times in its hayday and I'm sad to see the course in poor shape.Greens are inconsistent, fairways spotty, general beauty is not what it used to be.
Fabulous
Heat wave has hurt the conditions some, but we had a great time.
Beautiful scenery and challenging course.
Absolute bargain.
Backed Up
when to practice putting green and saw 16 people waiting to tee off. I went into clubhouse and asked why would they put so many players in front of me when I had made a tee time earlier in the day. Very disappointing pace of play. First hole took 35minutes! Course marshals need to be more active in keeping the pace of play up to normal speed and the pro shop needs to be more aware of letting too many golfers out in a short amount of time.
Like the greens and length of course.
Had a great time and enjoyed the length of the course. The greens were in great shape. Will definitely play this course many times more.
