Wildhorse golf course
All the greens are in relatively good shape and shots are holding. Tee boxes are ok but there are plenty of bare spots. The fairways have too many bare spots with crabgrass’s all over the place. Several holes where the landing area are nothing but dirts. The current lack of water could be the main causes. Overall was an average course at best.
Dry
dry spots, sand traps very hard, but staff was very accommodating
Great course
Excellent layout and mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s. Some of the holes are challenging with ravines, water hazards and sand traps on both sides.
Great Greens
The course was in pretty good condition but had some dry spots... Not their fault with the water shortage we are experiencing right now... However, the most important part of the course to me are the Greens... They were in fantastic shape and the Ball was rolling true... I made 4 Birdies today which was nice... I give a lot of credit to the greens condition, although I am a pretty good putter... The staff were also very friendly and let me tee off early...
Not a good value
Rates are on the expensive side but course is not in great shape. Bunkers were all hard pan, some were just marked as GUR. Greens were slow and spotty. I wouldn’t recommend paying for this course until they make some improvements.
Wilderness setting and it feels good.
Quite wilderness setting reminding me the Kamloop , B.C, Canada courses which we played a few years ago and enjoyed very much. The Wildhorse Golf course configuration is very attractive but the maintenance was a little slagged, leaving the bunkers unplayable, the greens were deteriorating and the fairways need more work done. Glad to see some maintenance crew were on site to improve the situation. It will probably be in better shape in time. In the low 90 degrees, we still enjoyed the game. Greens were huge and uneven that were quite challenging for good scores. Only two birdies of a dozen opportunities. Definitely recommend to any intermediate or high 90 players for the training of their irons. Needs some yardage signs and definitely some well managed restrooms on the course. They were not clean and short of supplies. Thanks.
Dirt for fairways
Don’t go. Course is in the worst shape imaginable. There is no sand in the bunkers, just rocks and hard pan. The fairways are 50 percent dirt. Greens weren’t horrible…. Over saturated. Oh and most of the bunkers have weeds in them because the course is so rundown. Astonishing how horrible this course has become, I love the layout, and it used to be an amazing course. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. I played 8/29/21.
Wide Open to Play
What a fun and challenging course. Practice your downhill putting. Most flags are positioned so you will have most holes putting downhill
Plenty of open tee times here. No delay. You can get a round in in almost 3 1/2 hours. And have room for 9 more holes should you want more.
Great time
I played early at 6am. What a beautiful course! Very well maintained with the friendliest staff. Drive range is a wonderful way to warm up. The course is challenging and fun allowing everyone to enjoy. If you want to play at Davis finest go book a tee time @Wildhorse golf course.
Great course when reasonably priced
This course has outstanding potential! The staff is great. However, the course has recently undergone terrible neglect. Many of the sand traps have standing water, weeds growing, and hardpan surfaces. Totally unacceptable and in many cases unplayable. The landscape around the course in many areas is either dried and dead or completely bald dirt hard pan surface especially around various water hazards. The course definitely needs some Professional TLC. We played it today for $35 per with a GN hot deal. The greens however were in excellent shape as were the tee boxes. The clubhouse, restaurant, restroom, and bar areas are very well kept.
Mediocre, at best…
Price is far too high for what you are getting, I get it’s Davis but where this course is does not matter to who owns it. Bunkers have more rocks than the mountains I ride my mountain bike through. This bunkers have been awful going back years before covid, they have unplayable signs in their bunkers that do not move. Not sure where the money goes here but it’s not back into the course. Most fairways are missing 40-60 percent of its grass, fairways are also consumed with odd weeds. Long story short, dead middle of the fairway does not mean you have a good lie, just means your iron is going to struggle getting through the hard dead pan dirt.
They should be ashamed with what they charge, if you doubt me go out there and take photos….no Marshall’s, no pace of play enforcement, no cart service, and most of the menu isn’t up for order…..
Bottom line, if you live 25 minutes or less you should play here because at least you can rationalize that.
New carts!
Always love going to this track. Live in Dixon so I guess it’s my home course. New carts are a great addition as well.
