Viroqua Hills Golf Course

About
Viroqua Hills Golf Course is tucked away amongst lush, rolling hills in the heart of Vernon County. Originally opened in 1930 as a public nine-hole course, and another nine was added in 1996, bringing the length to over 6,300 yards. The original nine, holes 1-3 and 13-18, has a traditional design that plays across wooded hills. Getting to the new nine requires crossing through a tunnel where on the other side, two ponds and a waterfall await you. Both nines have a distinct character but they both feature undulating greens and wide fairways lined with mature pine, oak, and birch trees. There are also sand traps bordering the greens on 14 holes and the fairways on six holes. The 11th is Viroqua Hills Golf Course's signature hole, known for the scenic view from its elevated tee box perched 100 feet above the fairway.

Great shape
I have played this course several times over the last few years. It is always in good shape and well cared for generally.
Hole 9 does not end up at the club house so one must be aware that a snack, etc. is not available until a couple of holes later.
this is one of my favorite courses.
1st time here
Course is challenging but fair. Some very interesting holes that are made so by the terrain. Smallish undulating greens can be tricky. All in all an enjoyable course.
Hidden Gem
Viroqua Hills is always in great shape, with tight fairways, consistent bunkers, and smooth greens. I make the trip from near Madison (about 90 minutes) a couple of times a year and have never been disappointed. It’s always five stars! For a small town golf course, it’s in wonderful condition all the time, and you can see the local pride.
I can’t say anything bad, but if I had to knit pick, the range could be a bit better and the menu could have more options. But hey, you don’t go here for those things!
Just a heads up on two other things: a) it can be a bit of a hike to walk if that’s your thing, and b) it’s an 18-hole experience as the course doesn’t wrap back near the clubhouse after nine holes.
Viroqua
It was great. Lots of hills and scenic views. My only negative was i I had accidently double booked so I was charged for 3 rounds and I played solo. Any chance of a refund?
Love Viroqua
Course in great shape even with recent rains. I'll be back!
Viroqua Hills
This is my favorite course in the area! There are other nice courses but this one is best. This course will challenge every aspect of your game in a beautiful setting surrounded by very nice people (both staff and guests). Give this course a try and you will not be disappointed!
Great atmosphere
I have golfed this course for years. I tell everyone that is interested in golfing about Viroqua Hills. The staff is friendly, the course is beautiful and well maintained and nice people on the course. Hole 11 is my favorite hole out of all the different courses I have played over the years and I am 52.
Good conditions
Conditions were good. Greens rolled true and quick.
Nice course, but….
This is a nice course but….when we first got there they were on a frost wait. That was fine and it we got to tee off just 5 minutes after out tee time. The problem we ran into was all the mowers, tractors, gators, etc that were constantly in the fairway while we were trying to play our round. The workers usually did not move out of way so we could continue play and when they did they were usually in the direct line of where we were going. This caused us to have to wait for them to finish what they were doing and then the 4 other groups caught up to our group very quickly so there wasn’t any time to really golf well because we were rushed.
