Womens Golf Clinic
Don't get roped into the free Womens Golf Clinic. We had to listen to them talk for over 1 1/2 hours before we even could swing a golf club. We ended up leaving after the 1 1/2 hours. There was plenty of open spaces at the driving range but the pro only allowed usage of five spots for all 21 women. There were other women who also left and just golfed the course.
George Dunne Nice Layout Showing Its Age
We teed off on time and the pace of play was good, we finished in 4 hours and 15 minutes. Driving range was hit from mats, not surprising for a Cook County run course. I used to play this track back in it's glory days when it's name was Forest Preserve National and was the flagship of all Cook County courses on par with very high end tracks. I still like the layout as a whole, and still hate the 18th. If you can't blow it over the lake or hit a perfect hook the landing area is minimal and you will most likely go thru the fairway into the ruff and be blocked out by trees. As stated in the title the course is showing its age. Many repair spots in fairways, washout areas from wet rainy spring weather in the roughs (18 rough) and several tee boxes require leveling. The clubhouse staff was friendly as was the starter. I did have two instances of people who were playing other holes simply play my ball, not sure what's up with this. One my ball was in my holes rough maybe 20 feet off the fairway and the second in the middle of my fairway. Both times we watched in dismay and said I think that guy just hit your/my ball!! All in all we had an enjoyable round. Considering price, 3:00pm tee time and fast pace of play, I recommend you give it a try.
How much does sand cost?
In most cases, bunkers are filled with sand. At Geo. Dunne, they must have forgotten. This course could be spectacular, but if Cook County continues to manage this place, it is destined to fall further into ruin.
Frustration
Great track but ridiculously slow! 5.5 hour round!
Stop putting so many people on the golf course Billy Casper!!! We were one of 4 twosomes in a row!
All four groups on the par 5's at the same time......Nice!
I wont be be back!
Fun course
Challenging holes. Lots of water but still a fun place to play that doesn't break the bank. Course was in really good condition and not too crowded for a Saturday afternoon.
Course also has driving range and nice putting area.
country setting
tucked in the middle of a forest preserve the course is beautiful and full of wildlife
Even winter season, open that golf course for thanks,
We enjoy rounding, thanks again^^^
Good even in January!
The fairways are in good condition with expected wet areas. I don't know if there is a reason for putting the hole in the wet areas about 90% of the green. But overall it was a great course and day to play.
Long but fair
Bunkers needed much work, both by staff and players. Poor drainage, washed out sand. Large bunkers with very few rakes. What rakes that were there were not used by players. In 18 holes only saw 3 places where players had raked.
Fantastic Design & Challenge
Been playing here for over 20 years and every time I find a new challenge and am rewarded with a great memory. With 5 sets of tees this course is as easy or as challenging as you'd want it to be. The greens are enormous with severe breaks (bring your thinking cap)..........although I must admit they are not as treacherous as 15 years ago when they greens keeper had them rolling 10+ on the Stimpmeter.
Fantastic forced carries over bunkers and water. Bring lots of balls because with water in play on 9 or 10 holes it's rare if you don't lose a couple at best. This is one of the greatest layouts and challenges in all of Chicagoland. Very much worth the trip to the South Suburbs.
Great course
George Dunne is one of my favorite course in the Chicagoland area. The layout is challenging but fair and the staff is very friendly.
I am so glad I found this course
I'm from the Philadelphia area. I had troubles when I was looking for somewhere to play, due to the fact that there are SOOOO many courses to choose from in the Chicago area. If you're looking for a course in impeccable condition tee to green, this is the place to go. The staff is fantastic and made me feel like I was the most important person on the course. And that's not joking around! The only complaint that I would have is the greens were on the slow side. They did roll true, just a little slow. I will definitely come back to this beautiful layout!
Course was very wet...looks like more of a watering problem vs too much rain
Course conditions have gone down over the last month. Greens and fairways were so wet from over watering that many areas were non playable. Greens were so slow the "putting" was impossible.
Great layout but looks like money for upkeep is drying up.
Twice during the round we were actually waiting for somebody to move the pin on the green. This is at 8:30 in the morning on a Saturday. Are you kidding me !! I've Ben playing golf for 40 years and I've never seen somebody change the pin location while you are playing the hole. Crazy to think this is something that is acceptable when you are playing $50+ for a round. There are better choices in Chicagoland.
Great course
Third time here , met all of my expectations , great value for the spend.
Unfortunately got rain.....,
A Great Round
Enjoyed playing with a friend and was partnered with another twosome who rode the golf-boards, very interesting, they really had fun with those. Course moved along as expected to be busy but the golfers were not slow players. I was surprised this time I did not see any deer guess it was too hot for them to venture out.
Can't beat price
I play here once a week for 2 year.
When I played last there was a lot of water and damp grass in fairways. We had no rain for a while, don't know if sprinklers leg on too long or what.
Also only 2 holes had water jugs and it was high 80s. Saw the cart person only 2 times and she said it wasn't busy for her. So without being able to bring own water on course it's tough to play in hot weather with only a few paper cups of water for a round.
I'll still be back.
