A must play on the South side of Chicago! Course and greens are in phenomenal shape!

Get a little wild with some tee shots and you will leave some golf balls in the forest and water for preservation. Keep em straight and know your misses and this is a very getable course. A good value and fun track.

Weather was poor but its a nicely kept course and fairly challenging

George Dunn GC is one tough course where you have to plan your next shot or you can land in their bunkers which has high lips & makes it challenging to get out. The greens were still recuperating from spring aeration & are big & uphill with a lip that will keep your ball from getting on the green. We had to wait on quite a few holes so play was longer than it should have been. The staff is very friendly & the course is in fairly good condition considering all the cold, wind, & rain this spring. Don't miss playing this course or you'll miss a good one.

The course was in excellent condition except for a couple of things, The areas where the rain water pockets and some of the cart paths need to be repaved. Other than that the course played very well.

Staff very accommodating and professional.

The best course the forest preserve course, only problem is it usually is a 5 hour death march. There are no rangers or anyone making sure you keep pace. Play early in the day and pace is better. Weekends and afternoons are usually worse

It's an excellent course layout and as challenging as you want.
We had the whole course to ourselves (It was Dec 26 and light drizzle) so pace of play was excellent.
The staff was very friendly accommodating.
Overall a great experience.

Don't bother, go somewhere nearby, unless you don't mind the 5+ hour round.

Had 45 min. Delay in start time due to early morning frost.

After slogging through several 5 hour plus rounds at this course finally hit a sweet spot on a windy day and got around in 4:15. Course always suffers from extremely slow play unless you tee off by 11am at the very latest. It's a great track, extremely challenging (130 slope from whites) but there were several pin positions this day which were not remotely accessible for even the most accomplished golfer. Course is in decent shape, the bunkers are "maintained" better than they have been over the years but wish players would treat the greens a little better as there were ball marks all over the place....good green speeds and not too bumpy. Fairways are nice but rough is very short/sparse and course is playing hard and fast due to the lack of rain recently. The forest preserve must get a deal on their natural gas bill with two gas fire pits a-blazing at the 19th hole. It was nice not having to wait on every shot for a change and after a par on the 18th from the longer tees over the water I'll come back next season but gird myself for the usual 5 hour plus slog which is the norm.

Great value for the public course player. Challenging track from the back tees.

Course was outstanding great shape !!! The only complaint was the pin placements on four or five holes Putting pins on slopes where a short putt can end up 18 to 20 feet away from the hole isn't my idea of a enjoyable round of golf I can honestly say it cost my score 8 to 9 stokes and putting is the stongest part of my game !!!!

Course is in great shape always enjoyed playing there, me and my buddies used to weight in line when they first opened up to get tee off time

It was 3:00 pm and we were only able to complete 14 holes before dark. There was a pace of play as part of the GPS in the cart; although we kept up with the group in front of us, we were 38 mins behind. As we left the course after 14 holes we found there was a SIX-some five groups ahead. That will really slow down play!

Can't say enough about the conditions of the course absolutely perfect. Greens were little fast and some of the pin placements were a little unfair but overall well done. I paid $30 for an early tee time which I think is more than fair. For guy in the pro shop was less than friendly but we can look past that.

Play is just too slow. I don't mind waiting on a t-box, but, to wait on the t- box and again every time on the fairway is just not-any-fun. Took us threesome 5 hours and 10 minutes to finish the game.

Course is kept nice for the amount of play it gets.
Could move a little faster .

Started at noon on a Tuesday and it took 5 hours and 4 minutes to play 18 holes. Never saw a ranger the entire time on the course. With 8 minutes between tee times it should not get backed up where 3 groups are waiting on every tee.
Love the course and great Golf Now rate but not at all happy with the pace of play. This is the second time in 2 months I went there on a weekday and experienced long delays. Not sure I'll be back.

I am a scratch golfer and think George W. Dunne is perhaps the best layout in the Chicago area. The conditions are fantastic, especially for a course that gets a lot of play. Being a forest preserve course, there are no houses within eye shot at any point during the round. The golf course plays very very differently from the gold tees (i.e., the tips) than it does from the blue or white tees. From the blue or white tees, this course is fair and somewhat challenging but from the gold tees, this course is one of the toughest courses in Chicago.

From the gold tees, this course is long with the closing 4 holes being the toughest stretch of golf in Chicago, in my opinion. Throughout the round, George Dunne toggles between demanding length and demanding strategic risk-reward decision making. The par 5s are, for the most part, reachable with a big drive and a fairway wood but most par 5 greens are heavily guarded. The par 3s are shorter but by no means easy and the par 4s are simply fantastic. The course has tons of water that comes into play and, in many cases, requires you to decide how of it you are willing to attempt to carry. To be more precise, several holes are a rather several dog leg left with water between the tee and the fairway. The farther left you take it, the more of the dog leg you cut off and the longer the carry but a wider landing area without bunkers. The farther right you take it, the less carry but bunkers are brought into play and your second shot will be significantly longer.

The last 4 holes are simply diabolical from the gold tees. Let's start with 15. A very long par 4 dog leg right that narrows to about 15 yards wide at the corner. Miss to the right and you will lose your ball in the dense forest. Miss left and you will find bunkers. The approach is to an elevated severely sloped green with bunkers in front.

Hole 16 is a little shorter par 4 but again bunkers guard the entire left side and dense forest guards the entire right side. From the gold tees, the player must hit a cut shot. The fairway narrows to about 15 yards wide in the driver landing zone so iron or fairway wood is usually the play. This leaves you a mid-iron to another severely sloped elevated green that is guarded by bunkers in the front. If the pin is in the back, the green runs away from the player and the player cannot see the surface of the green from the fairway.

Hole 17 is a long par 3 with a shallow green. Water extends from the tee all the way up to the green and bunkers guard the back. The green runs toward the water and the bunker are sloped such that most lies will be downhill. This makes any bunker save very difficult.

Hole 18 is the toughest par 4 I've ever seen. It is a dog leg left with water between the tee and the fairway. The requires carry ranges from 220, which would leave you with a 200+ yard uphill second shot to a multi-tiered green, to 290, which would leave you with 135 year uphill second shot. The fairway is shallow so trajectory control is required to stop the ball in the fairway. Through the fairway farther right and you will be in bunkers will large lips that are difficult to negotiate with a long iron. Through the fairway farther left and you will be blocked out by large trees. Par on this hole feels like a birdie.

The more I play this course, the more I appreciate it. The conditions are great, the greens are tough but not crazy and the layout is tremendous. If you can put up a good score at George Dunne, you can play anywhere.
