The Dunne review.
Overall this course is very good and fun to play at..I play here all the time. And my friends like playing here too. The finishing holes have some teeth and can cause you a few strokes if not played smartly.
Slow slow slow
Nice course but slow tee time was 20min late because they were holding groups because all carts were in use on the course. Played from 4pm to 8 pm and only got 14 holes completed. I have tried to pay here several times and it seems that 5 plus hour rounds are typical ouch not playing here again unless it is te crack of dawn
We are sorry that pace of play impacted your round at George Dunne National. We receive a high volume of play, especially as the weather warms up in peak season. We want each guest to have an enjoyable experience and would be happy to speak with you about which tee times will likely result in the quickest pace of play. We hope you will come back soon to play another round, and have a fun and enjoyable experience at George Dunne!
Best Course in the South Suburbs
Absolutely love this course! It's quite challenging due to a variety of factors including long carries, water, fairway and green side bunkers, and then you add in the length of the course. I've never played from the tips, but playing from gold is still a challenge. The course is kept up in great condition and the staff is friendly and accommodating. It's an added bonus that you can pay the cart girl with a credit card. If you want to challenge yourself, play this course.
Thank you for taking the time to play at George Dunne National! We are always happy to hear when a guest enjoys their round of golf and overall experience at our facility. We hope to see you again soon!
Extremely Slow Round
They booked tee times 5 minutes apart from each other which resulted in a round that surpassed 5 and a half hours. I understand they're trying to make money, but you're not going to get repeat business if the round is one of the slowest I've ever encountered.
This course has ALWAYS been notorious for 5+ hour rounds. That's why my friends and I play it no more than once a year. As good as the course is, nothing is worth the length of rounds expected when you play here. Booking tee times 5 minutes is one reason for slow times, as is rangers that either don't exist or don't care. To anyone thinking of playing here, very nice course, but you will always play 5+ hour rounds. Always.
We are sorry to hear that pace of play impacted your round at George Dunne. We understand keeping pace is important to every golfer and are actively working on ways to improve this aspect of the experience. Thank you for taking the time to come and play our course, we hope you will be back again soon so we have another opportunity to provide a fun and enjoyable golfing experience!
Very nice course, worth the trip
The course was in great condition. It poured for about 20 min during our round and the course drained pretty well. Great course for walkers. Challenging for both the novice and advanced players. Staff are super friendly in the bar/restaurant area. Takes awhile for check in prior to play (not sure why).
Good Course with 1 exception
The course was in very good shape but the only thing that bother the heck out of me is the tee boxes are not level. Sometimes you are teeing off uphill or the ball is above your feet. There is no reason for a tee box not to be level.
Always in great shape
Top notch course. Very challenging. Always in great shape
We are happy to hear you had an awesome time at our course! Our superintendent works extremely hard to make sure the course is in top notch condition, so we are glad to hear you had an enjoyable experience. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Slow slow slow slow
If you like 5+ hour rounds then this is the course for you. My last round took 5h20m on a Monday afternoon. After the round I went to the pro shop to complain and was told "that's what it's like sometimes". This course does absolutely nothing to improve pace of play, I did not see one ranger or Marshall on the course, however the beverage cart came by at least 4 times. So George Dunne is happy to take its patrons' money in concessions, but won't send out employees to make sure that customers are actually having a good experience on their course. If it takes 5h20m to play a round on a Monday, it's terrifying to think what it would take on a Saturday. This was really the last straw for me with this course, I will not be back.
We are sorry to hear that pace of play affected your experience at George Dunne. We experience a high volume of play, especially on beautiful sunny days, like this past weekend. We understand pace of play is important to an awesome guest experience at the course and we do our best to encourage each guest to keep pace. We are actively working on a pace of play program for George Dunne to improve pace of play. Our goal is to provide a fun and outstanding experience to each guest, and we hope that you will come again and play soon!
the greens were in bad shape
the course was nice with some hard pan areas, the greens were bumpy . We were not told about this before the round started , every putt was bouncing to the hole
During recent weeks we have been giving our greens a breath of fresh air with the process of aeration. We apologize if this affected your experience, and hope to see you back soon as we are anticipating smooth sailing on our greens which are recovering nicely from aeration.
Great Layout
Great design of course. Unfortunately, the greens had been aerated 4 or 5 days before and were very bumpy. The sand traps were not in great shape either. Also, when I went in to the pro shop to pay, they had no record of my Golfnow reservation. Luckily the course was uncrowded and they gave me the Golfnow rate I was quoted. It could have been a problem if they were overbooked.
We apologize or any miscommunication at the counter and appreciate your feedback. Our greens are recovering nicely from the recent aeration process and we are expecting smooth putting very soon!
Another solid experience
Played on 4/16 and it's Chicago so weather was spotty. That aside, course was in excellent condition for early in the season, greens were solid and smooth. A bit slow but to be expected. The layout is great and really allows golfers to choose their challenge as the course does a great job of making each set of tees respectively more or less difficult. I played the whites on this day as I was playing with some buddies and if you're a 10 handicapper or less, you shouldn't be here. With that said, unless you're a 4-5 handicapper or better, avoid the tips. I usually play the tips and it's a tough course from back there. Great, fair layout and always one of my favorites in the metro area.
We are thrilled you enjoy playing the course at George Dunne. We are looking forward to even more improvements on the course as the weather gets warmer. Hopefully the sun will be out the next time you play, but rain or shine we look forward to seeing you again soon!
Wonderful !
This is a wonderful golf course. Most fairways are wide open and slightly rolling. Almost every hole has guarded greens which make approaches difficult. Tons of bunkers. Sometimes both left and right of the green. Bundle that with sloping greens and it plays very challenging from 100 yards in. Off the tee there's trouble in lots of places although not in all. Most of the tee shots were hard to miss fairways.
Fairways were wet as the morning had seen heavy rain, Greens were dried up already despite that.
George Dunne in the rain
Our threesome played George Dunne the morning of a big rainstorm. The weather forecast was dire but we were able to play the nearly empty course for 9 holes before the rains came. The course was in good shape and is the crown jewel of the Cook County Forest Preserve courses.
Great forest preserve cousre
Very nice layout you don't really see other holes as it winds though forest. Lots of water holes lots of doglegs . Greens are in nice condition . Course gets ALOT of play so maintenance is done in early morning or late at night. Sand traps are the problem but they put a lot of money into them already .Last 2 finishing holes will trill you! Lots of wild life. Great design!
George Dunnr e
Need a nicer clubhouse. No bar area to relax in after golfing . TV picture was terrible.
rich
Course was beautiful they were blowing leaves off course all day ranger could have made them pickup pace great staff
Slow and Wet
We had a foursome ahead of us that was very slow. There were no rangers on the course to help speed things up. The course was soaked after some heavy rain for the past few days which was expected but the greens were fertilized and it collected on your ball when putting which made it difficult to play. Cart path only was expected due to wettness. Will give it another try next summer on a dryer day.
Great Day on Great Course
Played with a group that has not played the course in years. We found the greens to be in great shape and the every hole a unique challenge. The pace of play was slow during the first nine, and we had to wait on every shot, but picked up on the back and we were done in a respectable 4 and 1/5 hours. This course is a ride for Chicago North siders, but worth the drive.
condition
the greens were excellent. some of the holes had quite a bit of ground under repair but overall in good shape
sand traps need work
Everything was okey, except the sand traps, needs a lot of
