Ledges Golf Club
About
The Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley is tucked away in the Pioneer Valley, an area of western Massachusetts known for its lush, rolling hills. It is a favorite amongst locals since it is one of the best values in the region. The course enjoys scenic views that stretch to Mt. Tom and the Holyoke Range. It is on the shorter side at just over 6,500 yards from the back tees, but the dramatic changes in elevation make it seem much longer. Most of the greens are raised with steeply sloped sides, making accuracy essential since missing them by even just a few feet will result in a serious penalty. The golf course has a heavily wooded front nine that seamlessly transitions into a more open back nine featuring links-style holes. The Ledges is a shotmaker's course that offers several interesting risk-reward opportunities.

Ledges Number Four, Par 4, 276. The fairway is narrow, with precious little bail-out to its right. A driveable hole for the bold. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

# Nine, Par 5, 528. These bunkers will snare many an approach shot that is sliced or pushed. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

The 10th is a classic downhill par-5 of 564; it’s a three-shotter for all but very long, straight hitters. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

The massive bunker that sides green eleven could be a nightmare for those who aren’t all that handy with a sand wedge. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

Eighteen (from the left rough): Great finisher where you’ll want to avoid every one of the seven fairway bunkers, including these three. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

The final hole as seen from its right rough. Getting up and down around this green is no simple task. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/22/2022

GREAT
Pleasantly surprised for a Public course. Smooth fairways and nice greens.... well kept course and a real price performer. We'll be back
this course has great fairway
a fun golf course to play, but fairways anf greens were in great shape would recommend this course to any skill level
Great day!
The course was challenging. Some tricky doglegs. The greens held the ball well.
Nice day
My 3rd trip to Ledges this year. Nice course with several sets of tees that allow you to be as challenged as you'd like. Fairways are as good as they get for a public course. Greens were shaggy , bumpy and not consistent speed wise. Some of that may have been due to weather ...they did need to be cut. The restaurant is very good with a nice selection.
Wide Variety of holes
I have never before seen a 96 yd par 3 and a 215 yd par 3 on the same course. Bring all of your clubs you will need them. Course was in really good shape for the rain they had received. Can't wait to play it when I might get some roll with a driver.
Nice Layout in need of marshal.
Nice Layout in need of marshal. Teh course is enjoyable to play, but there were unrepaired/replaced divots everywhere. A marshal is required to enforce the repair, or to send the inconsiderate public players to another course.
Absolutely awesome, pristine, course is mint, thanks Ledge's for having us.
This course is absolutely beautiful. Fairway's are like most course's greens and green's were like pool tables. Views are tremendous and the course layout is pure New England!!! Fellow golfer's if you have the opportunity to play the Ledge's, do not pass it up!!!
Must Play in Western MA
First off, the only reason I didn't rate this course pristine is because like anywhere else, people are too lazy to repair their ball marks. This, of course, takes otherwise perfect greens and leaves them pock marked. Too bad because the greens on this course would otherwise be perfect instead of just great.
I do rate the course as excellent because it is very well maintained. We just had a week of brutal heat and no rain, and the course was in surprisingly good condition. The fairways are like carpets, and the greens, other than the ball marks, are fantastic. Like most MA courses, fairly narrow with lots of tree lined fairways, but not unfair. The course is beautiful as it winds through the woods with very few houses visible and none in play.
We teed off at noon on a Monday and didn't have to wait on a single shot. The mowers were off the course, which is the first time I've played a round recently without mowers on the golf course - nice touch. Overall, an excellent course and if you can get a reduced price, it makes it even better.
Also, a nice restaurant with an excellent menu and great service. The food was really good at a fair price. The Ledges is one of the best muni courses I have ever played - well maintained, clean, attractive and highly recommended.
Lots of risk/reward holes
I found the course to be in great shape, very fun to play. My only complaint would be that the greens were inconsistent. The putting green was very fast then the first 7 or 8 holes were a couple of feet slower. Then it seam the back 9 pace was quicker but still not up to the speed of the putting green. I guess it's evident I left a few puts short LOL Will play again for sure!
Picturesque and good play
The course is in good condition with a challenging but playable layout for golfers of all abilities. There are some short par fours that will entice the long ball hitter to go for the green but the hazards will keep you honest. There were a few wet spots and a bit of water damage form the excessive rain. All in all a very good experience.
Very Nice Conditions, Beautiful course, Challenging...
Never played here before. Living in FL, it is a nice change to play courses that wind through elevation changes, Maple and Birch trees. It's a beautiful track and was in great condition from tee to green. (Some places were very mushy from the rain. The drainage isn't very good and if not dry, this course is probably very swampy.) If you can't hit straight off the tee, then bring LOTS of ammo (balls) there are no outs on many holes. If it's not in the fairway, it's in thorns, brush, trees, and ticks. That said, from the blues (6100+) there are plenty of risk/reward opportunities. The Par 3 12th is 200+. Having to hit a 3 iron, getting there is possible, but stopping it on a relatively small green with a bunker guarding almost the entire front, is another story. Probably better to lay up to a short iron you can hit close. The 16th is another challenger; it is a drivable par 4 (275) but you have to be accurate because the fairway throat to the green is only about 20 yards wide. For most, we probably just can't help ourselves and have to try it. The risk is that if you nail the drive and it's off line, it's gone. 17 and 18 are two great finishing holes. Watch out on 18. If you don't realize it and hit your second shot anywhere other than to the right of the green, you will likely be in a bunker. Oh, and don't go over the green. It's a steep drop off the back and all downhill coming back on.
Overall, I thought this was a great course. The people were very friendly and it's a great track. One other note. Get there early if you want to warm up. The range is about a 1/4 mile away from the course and you will be hitting off mats.
The best fairways in western ma
The fairways were great! Greens were a bit soft causing slow ball roll. Great weather helps make for a great day.
Excellent Course for the Price!!!
The course was in awesome shape! I had no idea that it would be as nice as it was considering how I know they are struggling like other courses these days. You wouldn't know that from the course conditions though! I love this course and I'm so glad I got to play it at the price I found!
Nice course
Keep it in the fairway and don't go long over the greens
I'll definitely go back.
The course is in great shape and is fun to play. The only issue was the lack of information on the flag sticks as to which part of the green the pin was in, but the flags and flag sticks all looked brand new so I'm assuming the pin information will be coming shortly.
Slow Play
Course was in pretty good shape, but the greens were a bit slow. At 6100 yards from the blues, it's a pretty short course. We started off as a foursome, but one guy dropped out after nine. The front nine took less than 2 hours, but the back nine took almost 3. Brutal. There were 2 twosomes directly in front of us, but they didn't join up. There was a huge backup on the par 3 12th. I might go back for the $27 greens fee available through Golfnow, but not for anything more than that.
What a Muni!
This place is first class all the way. It feels great just driving in to the parking lot. You are surrounded by beautiful golf holes. Length from the whites is only around 5500 so we played from the blues which at around 6100 is equal to most whites. Everything is well designed and well cared for. Greens are fast and true. Lots of beautiful bunkers. You have to think your way around this course.
There are a few blind shots but not too bad. i wouldn't try to walk this unless you have very strong legs and heart.
Great condition
First time playing and the course was in great shape and will definitely be back soon.
GREAT PUBLIC COURSE
THE COUESE HAS GREAT VEIWS! INTERESTING HOLES, AND TEES FOR ALL LEVELS OF GOLFERS. THE DOWN SIDE IT DOES NOT DRAIN WELL AFTER RAINSTORMS.
