Maintenance
They have really done a good job bringing back the course to par putting in new tee boxes and greens and maintaining them
Great condition , layout , etc
clean and newer carts ; grasses all in good shape. nice crowd playing . I played for the first time here and so far it is one of the best courses in LA
Los Amigos March 2017
This course plays short and is a confidence builder for early spring. No real hazards on the front 9, however some water comes into play on the back 9. Food and facilities were average. Driving range mats were missing numerous tees. Only real peeve on this day was pace of play (Sunday). My round took 4+50. There was no starter (outside), Marshal or beverage cart on course. Golfers were allowed to go out when ready. A little course management by pairing up golfers would go a long way to make the day more enjoyable.
We were late getting off the tee again and had to wait at every hole. Had several etiquette problems with Asians on course. Two people chatting on first tee while we were teeing off; chatting from the group behind us while we teed off, etc. Bad manners.
Tee boxes & greens
Several tee boxes and one green are closed ... would avoid playing here for a few weeks. Learned the lesson that you can't expect the course to tell you if they are under renovation. They just want your money. Will ask ahead of time from now on.
The course was in pretty good shape. Had a couple of temporary holes. Would not play this course if I would have had to pay $53.00 dollars for the weekend.
Homecoming
Los Amigos is like birthplace. Ever since I moved to Downey in early 90s, I had played here foe many years; now I live in OC and Black Gold is my home course. My now-passed father worked here as well.
The pace is slow but the course looks fantastic. The condition is way better than was. They moved tee boxes around to make game more interesting.
I muat say this is somewhat overlooked gem in LA area.
Respectable Muni Course
Decent course for the price. Unfortunately had to wait 30 minutes for a cart since there weren't any available when we checked in. Expect a lot of dog legs and plan for trees to get in your way. 11th hole green was under construction at the time of this review.
Great golf course
My experience at Los Amigos was excellent. The course was very challenging and enjoyable. I can hardly wait to play the course again.
Slow pace & rough greens
I understand convenient courses get lots of players; what i dont get is why these courses do not have marshalls to help with the pace of play. I couldnt finish my round because it started to rain at hole 16; a little quicker pace and I could've finished
The greens are ROUGH. Your ball is going to bounce around on every green.
Is this worth over $50? Not really.
However if you can get it at a discount it may be worth it. It is a regulation length course with plenty of bunkers and a couple of water carries. The fairways are in good shape and lots of friendly people.
Good For The Money
Los Amigos is one of my favorites. The course gives you different looks. Lots of dog legs which makes it challenging. And it's not too long to kill your game. Will play here anytime.
