Golfer Reviews
Great for walking
Good pace and green fee are reasonable.
Great Pace
Teed off at 7:17am Pace moved great, never had to wait on group in front. Los Amigos has done some renovations/upgrades to the course since I last played there. Greens are in excellent condition, as were the fairways... no dry patches/dirt
Bring your patience with your clubs
Took us over 5.5 hours to complete the round. Extremely slow and no one managing the pace. Greens were definitely nice but the amount of time was draining
They hit the refresh button
Place used to be a dump. New owners have really cleaned the place up nicely, and stretched out a few holes to make it a tad more difficult. Everything tee to green seems very well manicured. It's a pretty enjoyable round.
Nice Muni
First time playing this course. With the drought I wasn't sure what to expect as most courses are hit or miss. Not great, but still in good condition. The course is fairly straight forward with some challenging holes. POP was a little slow, but after a few holes it picked up, but the weather was perfect so it wasn't to big of a deal. Overall was a good experience and will come back to play.
Saturday at Los Amigos
Well haven't played the course since high school. Was Downey Highs home course. The course was good but greens were being aerated, so bumpy and tons of divots. Also when we got there tee'd off 30 mins after tee time do to no carts. So play at first was a little slow
Los Amigos
1st time playing here in over 25 years, only remembered maybe 1/3 of the holes. Walked the blues (6212/68.7/118) in 3h, 45m on their standard walking rate of $27.
The greens had recently been vericutt, but it did not really affect the putting. They putted medium speed and held approach shots well.
The fairways and rough are both winter thin but generally have good coverage.
The traps were in decent shape with an adequate amount of good sand.
The tees were OK, some were thin and could use some divot repair.
The customer service was excellent, they got me right out on the 1st tee and matched me up with 3 nice guys.
The course was in decent condition overall. Shorter course with numerous doglegs, course knowledge would be beneficial if you are unfamiliar with the layout. I actually thought it was slightly under rated on it's rating/slope compared to some other comparable shorter courses like Santa Barbara, Los Robles & Buenaventura. I would play here again. Fun course with some fun holes.
Very slow play
We waited at least 10 minutes on every hole and as many as 20 minutes on some.
Fun Easy Course
First time playing Los Amigos. Course is flat with tree lines fairways. Fairways are are okay, but chewed up in some places. Greens are bumpy but not bad. Good place to work on your game.
Ok but $
Lots of improvements going on with the removal of some trees and new trees also new tee boxes. But for the price you could play much better courses like Industry (Ike or Babe) or even Westridge
Perfect course
Always have a great time at this course. Great condition, clean, friendly staff, tastey food and drinks at the bar (can't leave without saying hi to the friendliest bartender Roberto). Can't wait to play again.
Top-notch muni esxperience at a great price
Absolutely loved the track. The course conditions were on point and everyone I played with in my foursome had a blast. Even paying rack rate is a steal at this course, and it's entirely walkable, so you can save on the cart fees. The 19th hole is excellent---great sized bar, with air-conditioning, great tasting beer, and friendly service. A must try!
Damaged greens.
We had a wonderful time at the course as always. The bar/lounge area are inviting. The bartenders are always cordial.
The only negative is the greens. I could spend a day repairing ball marks and only cover the front 9. Every green was in disrepair. Every putt had 3-5 ball marks interfering with the line. If patrons would take a moment and repair 2 marks for their 1, the greens would be smooth in a weeks time.
Please hire someone to spend the required time to fix the ball marks (correctly) before it gets out of control. Thank you. Jeff.
Better and better ...
This course was a bit of a mess a few years back, but the staff has done an amazing job turning things around. From tee to green, Los Amigos now delivers a fine golf experience for just about any player. A wonderful course to work on many aspects of the short game and mentally think your way through each hole. Conditions here as a whole far better than many LA Municpal courses.
Slow day
Course itself was pretty good. Fairways and greens are well maintained. I only have 1 complaint. It was a slow day, waited at every hole to tee off. Group in front didn't even bother reading signs of pace and letting faster groups go ahead. The jerks behind us decided to tee off while we were on the fairway and came about 10 ft from hitting us. I'll put it this way he came pin high...to our feet. Thanks for yelling FORE! Despite the groups ahead and behind I would come back.
Play Again o learn
Fairways, traps and greens in excellent shape. Tee unlevel alot. To learn undulation of greens takes more than one round. No marshall made for almost five hour round. Not allowing players to hit on par 3's also added to delay.
Can golf now make its courses have warning icons anytime within. 2 weeks of aerification?
We are all very busy, and many of us find last minute opportunities to play. It would be extremely great customer service if Golfnow asked its courses to report aerification thru the next 2 weeks after the course does the maintenance. A simple warning icon would at least allow the customer to call the course and make up their mind based on what the starter says.
I always enjoy Los Amigos and with the exception of the extremely bumpy greens, course conditions were overall a 4 out 5. Yet, it's a real let down when you get there and you face these greens after you know you could no longer get a refund or have any recourse.
