The Legends at Orange Lake Resort
About
Orange Lake Resort & Country Club in Kissimmee boasts four different golf courses, two championship courses and two nine-hole layouts. Undoubtedly, the most popular course is the Legends. This Arnold Palmer-designed layout is like getting two courses in one. The front nine is a traditional links that is wide-open and windy, which makes club selection particularly challenging. It is a good warm-up for the even more demanding back nine. On the backside, you will be playing through mature oaks and towering pine trees that border the lush, winding fairways. It is quite a feat to successfully maneuver your tee shots through the narrow openings of the trees, which gives it the feel of a course in North Carolina. The signature hole is the 13th. This daunting hole features a large green that is shielded by a rock wall, surrounded by tall grass, and protected in back by a sand trap.

What is going on?
My in-laws have been owners at Orange Lake for almost 15 years. I have come the final few weeks of January for the last 5-6 years, playing both the Legends and the Reserve. After playing the Legends course this year I couldn't help but think what the heck is going on. The green fee price seems to have come down a bit but the club rental rate seems a little steep. For starters it was $50/round for a set of rental clubs. They are a nice Titleist set, except for the fact that one of my wedges and my putter were both replaced with a Bazooka brand club. When returning the set at the end of the round even the guy who cleans them asked what was going on and questioned it. Also, after playing the first hole and going to record my score I opened up the scorecard only to find it has already been filled out by the prior group. To make the round worse the "tee times" weren't enforced and the starter was just sending people out immediately after the group in front cleared driving distance. It caused a complete backlog on the majority of holes and either we were waiting for the people in front or feeling rushed by the people behind us. Finally, the course prides itself on being in great condition but the Reserve which costs almost half the price actually was in better shape. If this was a course that could be played for 60 - 70 bucks with rentals I probably wouldn't have taken the time to write this review. The fact that it is over $100 per golfer, and yet they still want $8 additionally for range balls, with the experience I had made me feel like something has gone horribly wrong with how it is being ran. I'd much rather spend the extra $10 the greens fee came down this year vs last to have a clean scorecard, a set of clubs that actually go together (especially if you are charging $50/round for them), tee times that actually mean something, and fairways/greens that match the marketing around it vs save a few bucks and overpay for a round at a course that prides itself on being of championship caliber when in reality it seems to be run and kept up like a $40 per round golf course.
Great course slow round
$20 mid day hot deal. Outstanding value. Great layout in great condition. A few greens a little rough but pitted true. Very slow play but mid day on a resort course: it is what it is. Will play again and again.
Good Course
Course was in great shape except greens had been dressed. They were not consistent. Played from white tees and was very fair for me as a senior golfer.
Lucky find
Wanted to play a course not too far from the Orlando airport looked on golfnow flor a t time that suited me and I got lucky because it was in great shape a nice layout with a variety of different doglegs water hazards scenery and friendly staff perfect sandtraps. Great value
5+ hours
Only one thing to say about this experience....it took more than 5 hours.
intere Looking forwars to playing the course againsting course
2 different 9s. Because carts do not have sat navs you are playing several of the holes blind. LLooking forward to playing the course again.
Need a Marshall!
We have golfed the Legends numerous times over the last 4 years. Over the last couple years the course has gotten extremely busy. Unfortunately our latest experience is causing me to write this review. There were 2 groups of 5 ahead of us and a group of 6 with a man pushing a baby in a stroller! This should not be allowed and they definitely need a Marshall on the course. We were not able to finish our round do to darkness - had these groups not been allowed or had they been monitored, we would have had no problem finishing as we were a group of 2. I’ve tried calling a phone number to talk to someone about this problem, but I have not been able to get through to a person. The course itself is a good course, but we can not recommend it anymore until they resolve this issue.
Legends at Orange Lake
Golf course was is excellent shape, greens rolled true and the fairways were smooth. Course design is great. Very challenging with lots of water and sand to keep you awake.
Nice course but needs better management
This is a really nice course that needs to better serve its golfing clientele by Rangering the pace of play. I have played many courses managed by Brown Golf and they have been wonderful experiences. Take what you have learned in the Carolinas and start to put it in use in Florida. 4:50 is unacceptable for a round of golf.
something missing!
Hardly any yardage markers visible making judging distances very difficult at times. If you are going to play this course come with a GPS or range finder!
Great Layout
As scenic a course as you will find. Seen a few alligators sunbathing, but what really made the course great is the layout and condition of course A+
The course mixes water hazards as well as sand traps
The course was in great shape. Went as a single and played with 3 other golfers and had great time.
Legends Orange Lake
Played the course many times during our trip
It was great each time. Can be challenging depending in which tees you play. I will come back again.
Worth playing
Played this course a week ago.Got a great deal so played again. Really enjoy this course. Got paired with a nice couple which enhanced our round.
Course
Pace of play over 5 hours. Course fairways where in fair shape.Greens had bad spots with different type of grass growing on them and lots of ball marks that weren't fixed.
Great layout
We enjoy playing this course when we are in the Orlando area. The conditions were great. The pace of play was as expected 4 1/2+ for round. The staff expect this pace of play. Golf Now offers some great deals. We will play this course again during our stay. I would recommend this course to anyone who enjoys Arnold Palmer layout. There are some challenging holes but you can manage them with careful thought and execution.
