Ocala National at Golden Hills Country Club

Too many courses like this in central FL. You can see its prior greatness and appeal but sadly those days are long gone. Conditions are marginal to terrible everywhere. Greens are poorly maintained and slow but at least they are consistent. Tee boxes and bunkers get little to no attention. Saturday afternoon, perfect weather and the bar wasn't even open. Sad, just sad- the people who live on this course clearly don't play it.

Starting with the club house - wow what a great looking old club house! It just felt alive with spectacular history. The course was challenging and in great shape.

I will be back. Everyone from the staff to the players was very nice and easy to talk to.

Greens are nice. Seems like they water most of the course which is great. Layout is nice. Long course!

Great weather great course. Totally enjoyed the game with my brother.

I played about 5 months ago and rough was 2 ft long. Played on Sunday and the rough was cut. Fairways and greens aren’t in too bad of shape. Course was much more playable/enjoyable. I would take it into consideration more than I have after I played it the first time. Course is tight and challenging but a pretty fun course to play, staff is friendly.

Over all its better than it was 5 months ago.

It says something about the course when on a beautiful sunny day with an early afternoon tee time, I find myself being the only player on the course. I’m new to the area and was thinking that with a course name, Ocala National, it would be a nice course. Needless to say, I was disappointed as soon as I drove into the parking lot. I noticed right away the older golf carts. They are gas with lots of noise and rattles. Navigating the rugged course made the ride quite interesting. The tee boxes and fairways are in bad shape. I would move my ball around to find a decent lie in a patch of grass. All sand bunker had weeds and some have rocks. I refused to hit out of them. On a possible note, most of the greens were decent and I had no issues putting.

Bottom-line: If you are wanting to play a practice round and can play this course for under $25, you can chance it. Otherwise, I’d recommend playing elsewhere.

Very good pace and not crowded. Rough is cut nicely and I was there a lot. Greens are good. Nice course and good price.

Great pace, some rough fairways but good overall. Greens good. Will play again.

Overall you see a big shortness of maintenance.

Sandtraps with a lot of grass in them. Almost no rakes.

Bold and sandy fairways.

This course is going down the hill and that’s a loss because it has a nice demanding layout.

I have been playing here since Rees Jones re-designed it…and it’s too bad to see such a great course deteriorate to this point. There is very little turf left on the fairways, and you might as well hit out of a cow pasture. There is no Bermuda turf on the tee boxes, just weeds. There are fallen tree debris everywhere and bunkers are overgrown with weeds. I really hope someone buys this course and invests in it.

Fairways are cut really low and covered with rows of wet grass clipping. Areas around tee boxes have not been cut. Several tee boxes were not cut.

Greens are in good condition.

Staff smartly directs singles to start on 10th as needed. Very friendly. Drink girl constantly checking groups - needed in afternoon heat. Course can be a little long on blue (and black) tees. Greens in exc shape, tee boxes ok, passible. Keep ball in fairway as rough is thick and you'll be fine. Plenty of ball washes, very good compared to some others. Will continue to play here.

Over grown rough, spent to much time hunting balls, weeds in fairways, some 8 to 10 inches tall. Card paths washed out greens average

I have been here a lot of er the last two years. The course is a rough one to play on. Roughs aren’t cut well. Fairways aren’t done well. Greens are always rough. I think this will be the last time I play here. It’s a shame. Course held a ton of water. Sand traps were filled with water. This is nothing new, sand traps are always water hazards there. The mosquitos we horrible.
