Ocala National at Golden Hills Country Club

Grass was not cut well……fairways were covered with dead cut grass and rough was terrible. Lost two balls……one in the fairway and one less than 2-3 feet off fairway. Course could be very nice, but not well maintained.

Great layout...nicely challenging course...bring your A game. The greens and fairways are in decent shape, but the rough is SO TALL that if you miss the fairway you mostly have to drop another ball.

The pub/eatery is closed so there is no after round sit and have a drink/bite. Too bad, because the clubhouse is very nice and the pub is very attractive.

Course has a good and challenging layout. Fairways and greens are cut ok but the rough are a little too rough.

Course has a lot of potential, several holes with great views of rolling hills and century old oak trees but course conditions were less than spectacular. Greens were in good shape albeit a little slow but no real complaint there. Fairways and tee boxes were okay. The rough however is another story. Never played anywhere where you could miss a fairway by 3’ or roll of the back of a green and lose your ball until I played here. This isn’t like a US open thick rough to make it challenging, this is just overgrown, not mowed for whatever reason rough. Ponds were overgrown and more of an eyesore than a compliment. Pro Shop was stocked with 3 bags and 4 shirts. Some good grounds keeping could make this course a gem but until then I wouldn’t go out of my way to play here.

Course has a fun and open layout. Elevated greens and different elevations all together. The maintenance is what hurts the course badly!! Losing balls in tall grass just off the fairway is annoying when you should really be able to find if cut on regular basis. I hit a ball just off the green on hole #3 and barely found it. Greens where ok. Just get someone to cut the dang grass and maintain the course!!

Was once a good course but has gone to pieces.

Has gone downhill fast in the last year or so.

Fairways covered with cut grass, goose grass taking over the entire course. Please spray for weeds and make it playable again! What a shame. Need someone in charge that knows what to do!!!

At one point, I bet this place was great. The owner obviously doesn’t care about it.

It is a great layout that is so unkept.

I would never recommend playing this course unless there is a new owner who puts some money and care into it.

Greens were nice but ruff was way too high we couldn't find the ball even though we knew where it landed...

Nice design but out of shape as most courses in north Florida..

Bunkers and fairways need some love (it is missing money).

Greens are still okay if compared to the fairways.

Either they don't have people to maintain it or they don't have the money. It's in terrible shape. The grass was cut wet and the clippings were left on the fairways. Someone doesn't have the knowledge.

It is a good course but the homeowners didn't support it so they can't afford to maintain it well but it is cheap to play

Only negative is the tee boxes needs mowing, otherwise course was in good shape.

Ocala National is a beautiful course, and since there has been a decent amount of rain, is in really good shape. Greens have recently been aerated and sanded so are not so great at the moment, but generally are pretty good, with the exception of Hole #3 which always seems to have a mole or something running through it. Pretty challenging layout from all tee lengths. It's a nice course definitely worth playing over and over...never gets old. But the restaurant and bar are no longer open for business, and the pro shop has nothing at all in it other than some golf bags and gloves. Too bad!

No sand in sand traps…rough mostly weeds, uncut, and easy to lose your ball when off the fairway…seriously lacking TLC…you can see the grandeur that this club once possessed, but the course leaves a lot to be desired…beautiful trees with plenty of Spanish moss

At one time I’m sure this place was a magnificent beast. It’s still a beast but it is no way magnificent. Practice green was damaged, but the range was ok. Hitting off grass to downhill targets. There are weeds and crabgrass everywhere, throughout the fairways and the rough, around the greens and bunkers. Very disappointing. The greens had recently been punched and sanded. They should be pretty good in a few weeks, though several were plagued with bare spots. Too bad. This place could be great. It just needs a ton of work. Save your money and spend it elsewhere.

I luv this track is a beautiful old course where I feel the history of golf, beautiful new and old homes along the course and breathtaking Spanish oak trees everywhere.
