This course used to be considered a hidden gem. Now, Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont is an off-the-beaten-path known reasonable joy. Stopping on the way from Los Angeles to Palm Springs for a golf detour is no fool's play. Not with the fast greens, dramatic elevation changes and swerving fairways available at Oak Valley in Beaumont.

A Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley design, Oak Valley is probably best known for greens that are anything but desert typical. Speed is the name of the game here, with a tap sometimes too much on a downhill putt.

Recognition does not travel that quickly. It took a decade for Oak Valley to get a four star rating from Golf Digest. Once it did, Beaumont suddenly became a golf stopping spot on the Palm Springs express. Now, you're considered a smart golfer if you linger on the way to Palm Springs.

"It's a nice getaway from the crowds in the desert, as well as some of the other, more populated golf areas," head pro Scott Arnold said. "It's almost like being in the country. No houses line the fairways. Each hole is different. And because of the way it's laid out, you often can't even see another hole from the one you're playing."

Absolutely Horrible

Teed off at 12:50. We waited almost 20 on every hole. At one time there were 3 groups on 1 hole. Never ever had to play at the snails pace which we did yesterday. I will never play Oak Valley again. It took 3 hours to play 9 holes. It would have taken 6 hours to pkay 18, which would be impossible to do before dark. We were so frustrated we ended up leaving after 9 holes. Total waste of money. Never again. 👎🏽👎🏽

What a mess, great layout but between the tees and greens there is little to no grass, just bare dormant grass and dirt. The bunkers are not maintained and a eye sore. The only thing good about the course is our 3 some played in 3 hours. This course needs some major work!

Pace of play

This course needs a full time Marshall with authority to alter play, break- up 5+somes, and kick off players who abuse the course/carts...there's no regulation on this course and it's getting abused by those (golfers) who have no etiquette...makes me sick!

Highway robbery at 80 a round

Why get robbed on the 10 freeway when you can go just off it and get robbed here? Course is worth 20-30 with the current conditions, at best. Layout is awesome but barely grass to hit off of. Go elsewhere until they drop prices
