Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
About
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Legends and the Champions. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgoncio and San Jacinto Mountains, both courses have a scenic landscape that offers stunning views. The Legends Course is the newer of the two but it provides just as challenging a game as the Champions, which is a PGA Tour favorite. The Legends twists and turns through the winding elevations, demanding accuracy throughout. Like its sister golf course, there are numerous steep-lipped bunkers treacherously placed along the greensides. The rough is also tall, thick, and unforgiving. The tricky par-3 fourth hole is played from the highest point on the property. From the tee, the canyon seems more intimidating but the wildly sloped green is where the challenge begins.

Challenging but fun course
I had a Saturday morning round for the legends course and got there early to warm up but the range was “closed until further notice”. It looks like a great range but I guess their ball collector was broken. They have a chipping green with a sand trap and 2 very large putting greens, both in good condition.
We played the legends course and it has a great layout and design. Overall the course is in good shape but out of the 6 green side bunkers I ended up in (one of those days) 4 of them were rock hard. One hole on the back was shortened because they were redoing a bridge. No heads up from staff on that one until the cart alerts you.
Fairways and greens were in pretty good shape overall. The pace of play was pretty good until the 18th but a Marshall came around the 12th to check on pace.
The course plays all the way around the perimeter so no clubhouse break at the turn. We didn’t see the cart girl until 10 and she had already sold out of hotdogs but she restocked and came back around at the 14th.
Lastly, it was really windy which added to the challenge of the course. Most of the front nine, the wind is at your back but the majority of the back 9, you’re hitting into a strong head wind so club up.
It’s a good value and the course is a fun challenge. Stay out of the sand and have a good round. I’ll be back out there and probably going to try out the champions course next time.
Stuck on Hole 2 after 30 minutes still. Watched two groups leave by hole 6. Diabolical. My club bounced off the bunker. The bunkers for some reason didn’t have sand in it, they were all concrete
Enjoyable course.
Legends layout is well designed and most enjoyable to play. Pace was a bit slow on a Saturday morning. I'd suggest playing during the week.
Greens were quite slow...which was unusual I was informed. Cheers
Everything good but…
Sand. The traps were in really bad shape. Rocky, hard packed and very hard to play.
Very poor condition will never return to play this course again.
Condition, of course is very poor. All the bunkers were filled with water so there’s no bunker play very poor value for money will never play this course again
Course could use some attention
Course was in good.shape except bunkers. They were all hard packed our had standing water. Like hitting off hard pan, couldn't get under the ball. Greens were fast with lots of undulations. Not in the pristine condition it used to be in.
Could be a contender, hopefully soon.
We recently played Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon – Legends Course while on vacation. I chose it mainly for the price and the chance to try a new course, and overall it was a mixed experience.
The staff was very friendly and helpful from the start. They offered some solid course advice, which I appreciated, especially since it was our first time playing there.
The first few holes made a good impression, and the layout is definitely challenging. There are quite a few blind shots that keep you thinking, and the greens were in good shape and rolled well. If you enjoy a course that tests your shot-making and course management, this one does that.
That said, the course conditions need improvement. The sand traps were extremely hard—more like concrete than sand—and many of them had standing water. It took away from the overall experience and made recovery shots frustrating rather than fair.
In short, it’s a challenging layout with solid greens and great staff, but the bunkers and overall course conditions need a lot of work. With better maintenance, this could be a really enjoyable track.
I will not play here again
Tee time 1:50. We were a group of 3. There were two groups of 2 ahead of us on the first hole. There was a group of 1 playing behind us and 2 groups of 2 waiting to play behind the single behind us. Pace of play was very slow. 3.5 hours to play 10 holes. No marshall making sure pace of play stays on target.
We will not play this course again
Nice Legends Golf Round
Played Friday midday
Joined by two gentlemen golfers
Conditions are fair
Had a good time
Was better than expected
I was a bit worried about how slow the pace of play would be on Sunday, but it turned out to be quite good. We had to wait on a couple of holes, but nothing unusual happened, except for on two holes. Fortunately, I was in a group of four, so we were able to take our time before catching up to the group in front of us. The legends course was nice and open, especially the back 9. It wasn't too difficult, especially for a person with a high handicap, but when you lost your ball deep in the rough, good luck trying to find it. The greens were nice. Overall, 4.3 - 4.5 definitely would come back again later this year.
Nice layout and greens
Really enjoyed my early morning round. The guys at the golf shop were great and really helped me out when I made an error with my tee time. Course is very scenic and in pretty good shape after all the rains. Greens were great. Would go back for sure
