Torres Blancas Golf Club

The day (temperature and light breeze) was perfect. There was no delay in play. Staff was courteous and our foursome had a great time. We finished with a cool drink and conversation at the outdoor patio.

My buddy and I were teamed up with another twosome who insisted on hitting 2-3 additional balls after they mis-hit their initial shots., which was about 50% of the time. In spite of this we still managed to keep pace for a 4 1/2 hour round.

The marshal came by and literally yelled at us for being slow; there was no one breathing down our necks. Dumbfounded we stopped at the shop at the turn and were told “we play 4 hours here, live with it.

On the back nine we were once again verbally accosted (not asked) to pick up the pace .

Marshal was extremely unfriendly and harangued us to play faster.

It was not an enjoyable experience at all and we will not go back.

BTW our round took 4 hours 15 minutes

Greens were a bit rough otherwise course in pretty good shape. Always amazed by the route between 9 and 10, you can get all turned around.

We play this course often. Seems that overseed worked well in fairways and tees but not on greens. Many greens (maybe half) have something very weird. The green texture looks like a waffle fry! They roll like they are going over one too! Hopefully the maint crew will figure out what went wrong. Bunkers - forget about it. Most were filled with water and look like mini lakes.

Weather was very hot. We played right after the course was coming out of overseeding. Greens were shaggy, but so were the other courses that we played that week. Many of the courses in the area were closed for overseeding yet, so course was very busy and that affected the pace of play. I enjoy the layout at Torres.

Like the course. Have played it for 15 plus years. Overseeding worked well but some of the greens were is awful shape. Other than that, it's a nice course with a great view and good degree of difficulty.

While the fairways are longer than normal, it is nice to see them looking good.

Unfortunately the greens are rough, over-seeding has not yet taken hold, and putting is a challenge.

Not sure when, or if, they will reach "good" status

Started off Gary the starter was very rude because I didn’t want to ride with someone not in my party. The greens are still a poor excuse for over seeding. Way too long for this late in the rye overseed. Many Bare spots and very bumpy due to so many bare spots. No drinks available in the Oro shop. Beer cart had one water for sale. The manager at the pro shop came out to the range where I was warming up to tell me I could not play here if I’m not willing to ride with someone I don’t know. In front of my group was a father son in two separate carts. Doesn’t even make sense. I have been in the golf industry for over 30 yrs starting my career as a mower for loyd McKenzie at Augusta. I don’t expect championship staff but the confrontational attitude of this staff is unbelievable. My wife was very uncomfortable and we will never return. Very sad it has a nice mid level layout if they could get it in shape and change the culture of the staff. The regulars I played with said this has been the problem along with overloading the course so we waited on probably 15 of the 18 holes.

Torress Blancas is requiring players to ride with people they don’t know. Terrible practice not sure if it isn’t breaking Pima county ordinance. But will turn them in.

Just transitioned to rye grass for the winter, but overall in good shape!
