The Battleground at Deer Park

About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Coulda called me!!!
Understand that there was fire close by for couple days. Also understand it was out overnight before our tee time. No one called or let us know course was closed. Just a sign in the window. I wasn’t the only one to show up either.
Course is ok, just have to say a phone call would’ve been nice
Disappointed
Greens were terrible. They were totally dead like putting on concrete. Went in to get food at the turn and the kitchen was closed. The bartender couldn't tell me why there was nobody to cook. Just all around disappointed in my experience.
First time to play
This course was definitely worth what was paid - a hot deal on app. I thought the difficulty was enough to challenge all players. Some holes were very beautiful and some were pretty basic. Greens were pretty undulated and several pins were placed in pretty difficult positions. Bunkers were well kept. Conditions were really pretty good. Greens were pretty burned out looking, but rolled pretty good. Pretty short course - very gettable. A lot of water, but generous missing areas. At the price I paid, this is a must play.. I didn't try any of the food, but the clubhouse looked top notch and the grill seemed very well done. Next time I'll try some food!

Course is in trouble after all the bad weather we've had but they're working to improve it

Great layout but recent weather problematic
Layout was challenging, but due to many days of rain-greens and fairways in poor condition. So much so the the starter apologized before the 1st tee box.

Not worth the $
BG is in terrible condition. The greens are getting as bad as they were the year they had to tear them all up and rebuild them. Tee boxes are also beat up and can't play out of most bunkers.
On the positive side, the fairways are in good shape and the layout is interesting. I really hope they get the greens figured out one day!

Greens are in horrible conditions and most tee boxes need work.

Good value course. I like the layout. There is a lot of water. Greens are auto two putt status. Good value tho.

Cart path only due to recent rains. Otherwise typical condition for winter months in SE Texas.

This course it not good for future.
Staff on the counter so rude, second time in two weekends I see him again, very bad behavior.
HORRIBLE
GREENS WERE TERRIBLE. STILL PROMOTING SPECIALS ON GOLFNOW FOR SUCKERS THAT WONT COMPLAIN . I DIDNT THINK I HAD TO CALL BEFOREHAND TO SEE IF THE COURSE WAS PLAYABLE.
Disappointing
Picked up a round here on Saturday. The greens were just...well...dead! I have never seen them this bad. I really like the layout, but I think they should warn us that the greens are gone! Will try again in 2-3 months!
Battle
Course needs to be seriously cared for.... Players could help by fixing your divots
Slow day
OK for the price, but it was dreadfully slow today. One hole was stacked 4 groups deep, and no sign of a martial anywhere to maintain pace of play. Some holes we had 15 minutes in between finishing one green and teeing off the next. Greens were ok, but the tee-boxes are hard as concrete, and the traps were in terrible shape. Fairways were decent. We quit after 9 because of the pace of play, and there was no cart girl, and the snack bar at the turn was closed at 4 PM. Will not go back.

Course is in good condition. As a single player I joined a twosome and played course in less than 4 hours.
