The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Nice course
Course is in great shape for the hot weather we have had in the past few months. The greens still need some work on a few of them but overall in great shape. Always a challenging course to play.
8/31/18
Course was in very good condition for late summer. Plan to go play again soon.
impressed!
After my last couple of times playing this course (in mid to late 2017) i was skeptical to come back again. Greens had been damaged and suffered heavily in Hurricane Harvey. Today, however, i was quite impressed by the course condition. It was beautiful, especially for a blistering hot August. Greens were smooth grass and even AND deceptively challenging with their breaks.
VERY SOLID Course and Enjoyed it immensely.
Reliable
It's not the greatest layout or the best condition but you know what you're going to get with Battleground. A good course at good price with reasonably fast play time. Don't recall a round over 4 hours here in the 50+ I've played.
Great Course!
The price was extremely good. $19 for 18 plus a cart is a great deal for this quality of course. However, the man that checked my father and I in was a little grouchy and not very friendly. Other than that, the course was beautiful, well maintained other than a couple of the fairways. I would gladly come back to this course again.
Slow play
Slow threesome in front. Made the Marshall aware of this. He did nothing. He wasn’t concerned. Done
Want to extend gratitude to the battlefield! GolfNow gives me opportunities to play courses I normally would pass on. Fantastic time spent with a newbie and a seasoned member
Battleground
Course was in real good shape. It was difficult to put the tee into the ground on some of the tee boxes.
Greens were in good shape.
A course layout book would be good to have on some of the holes.
Great course and friendly staff
Check in was great with no issues. Starter was friendly and bartender was super friendly. The course from fairways to greens were in excellent Summer!! shape. Highly recommend. Definitely will return. Thanks!!
Battle Ground 7/24/18
Played course in afternoon so not crowded and pace was very good.
Course in good condition. Greens are being aerated but played ok.
pace of play
Had a very slow threesome in front of us. Told the marshall but he did nothing about it. pair in front of 3some were about 3 holes ahead of them. my twosome teed off at 6:45am and got to the 10 th tee at 9am. unacceptable . Won't be playing here as a result of the marshall's lack of concern .
Best Condition I’ve seen in years
With the exception of a few bunkers needing attention, the course was in the best shape I’ve seen in a long time. Greens have held up very well this year. Any complaint I might have would be aimed at players not doing their part. Ball marks not repaired, feet dragged on greens, bunkers not raked.
Really good shape
Played in hot temps.
Course was in very good condition, greens rolled good, fairways were in very good shape.
My favorite course on the south side of Houston, they have always done an excellent job. Not my last round here at all.
Good enough?
Played course for $40 with a friend. Don’t expect to be blown away. Tee boxes were really hard and patchy. Must have just rained because parts we’re slightly flooded. Next to no information about the holes on the scorecard (full page of ads instead wtf) and yardage markers we’re difficult to spot (they’re little dots on the Cart path). Hit water hazards that I didn’t know existed due to lack of info. Course itself isn’t that challenging which was fine with me. Greens weren’t too crazy
We had a great time and we were extremely impressed with the facilities. A really good value and the greens were some of the best daily fee greens I have played in the past couple years. Would recommend with confidence; we will be back again.
6-25-18 Review
Course was in good condition after recent rains and for a public course.
Greens and on course staff
Greens they say are at 9.5 speed which is rubish. Greens were not cut, very slow and difficult to putt on. The greens were at best maybe 5 on stimp.
On course staff member kept on interrupting my game, telling me what shots to play and tagging along as we played.
