The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Great pace
Great value for the money. Course was in great shape. Greens and fairways were excellent
golfer55
took way too long to play. no marshalls and a group jumped in front of us on the 10 was on of the worst outings ever
great features
excellant greens , fairways and challenging course
Tough test, good value.
Tough test of golf, with emphasis on finding the fairway. Water down both sides on most holes. Course is well kept and good value. Pay attention to grain on greens, will affect putts.
Nice fairways / greens
Tee boxes were hurt. Ball below feet, feet on ridge, hilly in most spots. I'm not sure if it was a fluke that day but pace of play was horrendous for a Monday. I'm not sure what the deal was but constantly waiting on tee box with the group behind always showing up as I was waiting. Took 4 hours. Should really advise players to let faster groups/singles (as I was); play through. Overall a good course for the value. Driving through the tunnel to the rest of holes was unique.
Golfer 55
Greens were smooth and rolling decent. Sand bunkers weren't raked and most weren't in good shape. A good challenge.
Golfing DP Style
The fairways are in good shape plus most but not all of the greens. Several of the tee boxes are dry and pretty beaten up.
The course requires accurate tee shots, and proper club selection to land the greens and enjoy success.
There is ample timber and water to test to our game. If you're average, or just beginning, bring an ample supply of balls with you.
Great Lunch Deal
Great Golf course to play for under $40 w/cart, hotdog, drink, and chips.
The layout is really awesome and there are T-boxes for all skill levels (36 HCP to Scratch). Please do yourself a favor and adhere to them based on your handicap.
Fairways are in great shape and the greens are fast and roll true.
Tee boxes are kinda bumpy and the sand traps are in rough shape due to Harvey.
It has been my go to course in the area and have been playing it often. Look out for the Hotdog deal and you'll thank me.
Good everyday course
Course is in great shape. Green were true and fairways were almost lush. Other than traps needing attention and water on the t-boxes,the course played well.
Slowest round ever
I played this course on a saturday and teed off at 9:30 or so and didn't finish my round until 3:30. We were a group of two and waited for 20 minutes on each tee box and fairway. Pace of play was terrible!! No marshall anywhere on the course to keep things moving. Will not return to this course until pace of play is made exponentially faster. On the other hand course was in decent condition, fairways in great shape but tee boxes were not very good. Greens were okay but the bunkers were not playable.
Beautiful Course
Had a great time. Was hitting the ball good for a change. lol
Good Layout
I enjoyed it very nice layout but water hazard is everywhere in hidden. fairway is good condition compared to putt green.
next time I will chalnage again
Good shape
Overall good value. Most greens were good. Two had some rough patches but pin was far away so it was not an issue. Fairways good. Tee boxes are fine. And greens are in good shape.
This course will improve your game
This course requires; focus, thought, courage, trust, and extra golf balls. You will want to play it again.
Good Value
I've played at Battleground 10-15 times or so. I play at this course typically at least once every month or two, sometimes more. The main cons of the course would be it usually gets a little backed up and there are maybe 2-3 greens that have some rough patches on the outskirts. Pros would be the overall course conditions are very good for the price you pay to play, clubhouse is pretty nice (full bar), and there is a driving range. I have not had any issues at this course and I recommend this course to friends and anyone else.
