The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

some greens were under repair, fairways were in good shape and tee boxes were not bad either, course layout is good and challenging, lots of doglegs need to position ball for next shot.
Fun course. Great layout and nice carts and amenities. Overall great value for the money on Golf Now.
Good Conditions despite hurricane Harvey
The course was in good shape considering we had just become the recovery process fro Hurricane Harvey. Fairways were in great shape. The only area that was subpar was a few of the tee boxes.
Pace of play was very good and we had a great time at lunch and having a few beers at the Republic grill.
Nice clubhouse, restaurant and bar.
The weather was perfect, high 70's, blue sky and low humidity. Rare for Houston this time of year. Enjoyed the round. The course was in good shape especially only a week after Hurricane Harvey.
Post-Hurricane Golf Round
The course was in surprisingly good shape after the hurricane, although many of the bunkers were in poor shape (not sure if because of hurricane or normally so). This is one of my favorite tracks in the Houston area.
Disappointing
I've played this course numerous times over the past two years and the greens are in terrible shape. They had signs of being recently aerated and were extremely slow. I really hope they don't loose the greens like they did two years ago. The course has a nice design and is fun to play. Greens just need to be taken care of.
Battleground 9/2/2017
The course drained unbelievably well. We expected "Cart Path Only" but we're greeted by 90° rule. Very pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to our next round.
Challenging golf course
Very challenging golf course with water hazard on almost every hole. They just aerated their greens but still the greens need better maintence with few bald areas. Every golfer need to play in this kind of golf course though because it defines how good you are.
Great course, beware of the club five-some.
I like this course a lot. Every time I have been there the conditions have been great. A hot deal makes this place a total bargain! I was lucky to get out ahead of a five-some last time I was there. Don't expect the starter to do much to stop five-somes. The day I played the starter wouldn't let me go. Then to my surprise his shift must have been finished just before my tee time because he was the fifth person in the five-some playing ahead of me. I got lucky because a person in the starters five-some insisted I go ahead of them, thank God! Other than that it is a really awesome place to play.
Great course
It had been a while since I played Battleground and was pleasantly surprised the course was in great shape. Especially as hot as it had been lately. The course overall was fantastic, greens putted well.
Good Course
This is a well maintained course for a fairly affordable price. The staff is friendly, and the course is quite well laid out. Be on time for your tee time, as they are usually busy. Even with their back to back grouping, pace of play is awesome. The marshals keep it moving. Pick your spots when teeing of and your round will work out quite well.
A good test of your golfing skills
This is a fun, golfing challenge for intermediate and advanced players but beginners will get pummeled on the other hand.
The sand traps were un-sand trap-like, being damp and firm, making it tough to judge the proper club head speed on exit.
Fairways were a shinning star to me, making getting under the ball real comfortable.
The greens still have some bare spots which can cause your putts to get off track.
For me the twighlight rate made the problems here more palletable so to speak, and I enjoyed the round overall.
A decent golf course
We were in the area for a couple of days so decided to scout out a golf course that got good reviews and wasn't too expensive. This is when we stumbled across Battleground. We booked on golfnow so was a quick visit to the pro shop before hand to pay, the young chap in there was very helpful and lent us a bag for nothing which was a nice touch. We teed off and got off to a fairly good start. Unfortunately as the course went on, the state of the course got slightly worse but nothing too bad to play on. The greens weren't that great and were covered in sand but surprisingly ran true-ish! There was a few rough patches on every green but maybe that's to be expected this time of the year (is it the off season so they're trying to repair them?). Every tee box was also in a sorry state with the majority of them having crater like holes which did affect your stance. The fairways however were in good shape and the course was quite forgiving if you hit it off the fairway, the few trees there were on the sides were easy enough to escape if you happen to put your ball into them! Overall, a good game of golf at a very reasonable price, if the minor problems highlighted were fixed, it would be a really nice course. Would probably play again.
T boxes kind of rough greens ok course has good layout fairways good shape slow players ahead with little boy trying to play here and there backed up almost a hole no marshalls wanted to play a 5 some but rejected before 10 could have easily played with slow pace
Double chsrged
I booked thru golf now to play the course and the app said how much I owed the couse when I got there. Upon getting ready to pay the amount on the app the staff charged me more taxes on the amount that the app said I should pay. I will never play there again nor book thru GolfNow with them. They are making extra money by taxing the golfers a different amount. Smh. Rate 1 star.
BG 7/13/17
Course in good condition due to recent rain in the area.
Great course for Senior Golfers
We played the course 2 time this summer exactly a week apart. The condition of the greens changes dramatically in that time period. They had been working with new control products and what a difference the week made. I will be happy to drive the 80 miles to play this course again. When the weather cools.
