The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Enjoyable round of golf
Easy to like this course. Except for the fairly hard fairways, the course was in fine condition.
Great Price for a good course
Course was in good condition except a few bunkers. Water comes into play at a lot of holes can be challenging with wind involved (Today) but for the price you cant beat it. Would recommend to any level.
Coursework
This is a well kept course. I enjoyed playing here and look forward to returning. The food in the grill was great. Great staff.
good course
cart path only on a Sunday created a backup at times but minimal. Played from white/ladies ts and found it challenging. Greens have certainly improved from my last time there in the fall.
Started round at 940am played 1:15 min first 9. Played a 3 hr back nine. Liked the course, greens were in fairly good condition. ( I call them browns) seems to be common for golf courses in this area.
course was great
Course was great, I like that they offer lunch, replay and golf range for a small fee. Also Fees are affordable.
Great Value
I love coming to Battleground. Every time I have been the pace is perfect, and the relatively modest cost to play is well worth the quality of the course. Layout is great for the intermediate range of golfer, with good length and plenty of hazards to be aware of. Greens are typically fine, fairways and tee boxes in good shape. Best value I have experienced so far in the Houston area. I will be back soon.
This has good freatures
People were friendly and Professional. Good looking golf course. They have good options on food, drink, and green fees. Overall enjoyed my first visit Battleground golf course in Deer Park Texas.
Relatively simple layout + lot of water hzrd
Really enjoyed round. Course layout is relatively simple but lot of water hazard makes difference. Easy course for straight hitters.
I really wish there are more yard markers on the course.
Worth the drive
The course has definitely been worked on in the last few years. The tea boxes are improved and greens are definitely better than they were the last time I've been. I live in spring and drove to Deer Park and it was definitely worth the drive .
This course needs better maint.
The greens were bumpy, but in fairness,
they're changing from winter to spring.
The main bugaboo w/ this course is that the sand traps are awful. Many were not even raked (and probably han't been for a while) but ALL of them have the same problem, i.e., not enough sand. There is just a very slim layer of sand--and no matter how far you hit behind the ball, the club hits the underlying clayey matl. and just slides right up to the ball causing one to hit it way past the pin!
Good surprise
Haven't played Battleground in almost 2 yrs. They are getting their stuff together. I will be coming back again. Staff was extremely nice. I will be putting this course back in my rotation. Glad to see it back in good shape. Keep it up guys.....
One of the best values around Houston
I live inside the loop and have played most of the public courses in the Houston area. I consider Battleground one of the best values in the area. Being located away from the bigger suburbs around Houston, this course gets less traffic than most, which means quicker rounds, cheaper rates, and easier to get tee-times. It's become my go-to for busy weekend golf. Staff is friendly and conditions are great for the price. My only complaint is that all the par-3s are around the same yardage. Nevertheless, the layout of the course is excellent given the flat terrain of the area.
