The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Worth playing
Fairways from 1 to 18 were very nice. The ball can get lost in the rough so be sure to spot well.
Most of the greens were in great shape but there were a couple of them that had bare spots.
Overall it is a nice course which is worth playing.
Great Cours
Course was in great condition. Pace was very slow, due to a senior tournament, played on Monday and Wednesday mornings.
Phenominal condition!
Played on a Sat afternoon. The only downside to the experience (besides my score) was a small tournament had started 20 min before we teed off. It was slooooooow behind the tournament...
Course, traps, and greens are in stellar condition! My measure of how well a course is maintained is the condition of the sand traps. All (and I visited many) were the way sand traps should be maintained!
Course had no bald spots, and the fairways are plush. Greens were faster than I remember, but rolled true and no bald spots or "bumpies."
Well worth the money!
Decent course for the money
course has plenty of challenges, Service was adequate.
Course Condition
Course was in good condition and we had a great time playing. If it could have only been cooler.
Nice course but very slow play
The course was in ok shape but needs to be cut. The pace of play was very slow as usual.
Battleground is well worth the drive
This course is well worth the drive out to Deerpark.
The course was in great condition, and we were lucky to have a few bands of rain come through to cool things off. There is a large driving range across the street from the clubhouse which is a little difficult to access before your round.
The pace of play on a Saturday morning was fine - the only waiting was at Par 3s, and even that was quick. There is a lot of water in play on several holes.
#5 is a Par-5 your can reach in 2, so start lining up your eagle putts.
I really enjoyed this course as an intermediate golfer, and I look forward to future trips out to Deer Park to play Battleground.
Great value-Book online!
Excellent day of golf. Great staff and great course conditions. I could not have been happier except missed 4 footer for bird on 18 with the peanut gallery watching. Didn't get to eat because they didn't make any hot dogs for some reason.
Love battleground
I love playing battleground, it's challenging yet very doable.... My only concern was the lack of water on the course in the middle of summer in Houston. There was one cooler sitting on a stump on hole 10, and one cooler, that was empty, on hole 6. Luckily I brought some water and stopped in the clubhouse for a Gatorade, otherwise that could have been a dangerous situation had I not had money!!
it's alright
Course is in good condition. Only wish that the time I booked was the time I got, they booked 2 foursomes on top of me. They didn't seem to care either.
Nice course
Nice course, greens a little slow but overall nice place to play.
1st Visit
Just like any course I play, you have to hit balls in the fairways or there's trouble waiting for you. So, I kept about 60% of drives in the fairway and 100% close to fairways. Greens were fairly easy to read but not easy to get the ball into them. Tee boxes on a two or three par threes were under repair and shortened, which made for easy pickings. I had a nice time overall playing from the gold tees.
Great Weekend Value
Played this course for the second time, but first in over a year. Really like the course layout, but could be better maintained. For under $25 on a Sunday afternoon it was pretty hard to beat though.
Great course
The course was in beautiful condition. My only issue was that there were no water coolers available on the course which are really needed on a 96 degree day. Will definitely be returning for future rounds.
8/3/15
work still going on at the par 3 6th hole, making it a rather odd hole. greens not great, but not horrible either.
greens need love
Love this course and layout!!!..always have but when went played course was good to greens but the greens were furry....will go back but in a couple weeks so the greens get better
Slow play Wednesday's!!
Please do not waste your time if you play on Wednesday because the pace of of play is a snails pace because of the ladies day tournaments. Otherwise, the course is in excellent shape!!
Way to Expensive for Terrible greens
Battlegrounds golf course is usually the best bang for your buck. For $48 on Sunday Morning in Houston, TX that's a deal. its a great somewhat challenging course. Staff is very friendly but the greens were in Terrible, Terrible Shape. This made the course not worth $48. They surly could have come up with a way to satisfy their guest in wake of the below standard greens.
Needs new grounds crew!
Lay out of course is nice! But fairways and greens need TLC! There's weeds everywhere and greens are in bad shape!
very nice greens
It was my first time to play there. I will be back ,I had a great time with my dad .
