About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Good shape
Course is in good shape. Greens needed to be mowed. $70 with a cart is a little steep. If you get a deal don’t miss the opportunity.
Need rain
Tee boxes need water. Greens were a little slow this time. Need course maintenance to remove dead limbs that could fall on carts or people with serious I injury

Tee boxes hard as a rock so bring hammer for tees, Greens in very good shape. Maintenance needs to remove dead limbs falling from trees. No water or cart for refreshments on course. Food and beverages inside closed at 1.30 pm so just water and bathroom after golf. Not gps in carts. Maybe fall rain and cooler weather will help some. Too close for me not to play some anyway.
Tough layout, but fun challenge!
If your normal course is a layup, this course will humble you! It was in great shape, and the greens were rolling true(but slow). We had a great round, and enjoy when we can get down there from Southlake. Great job, guys!
Decent Public Access Course
Greens were hustling aerated so not great and the tee boxes are rock hard. Overall, the course is in good shape but a bit pricey for current conditions. Maybe a discount while greens are being worked. Was just purchased by the city of Desoto, se time will tell how well it is maintained going forward.
Great Course!
Course was great, ground was very hard on some holes. Had a hard time even getting the tee in the ground. Wasn’t very busy, so was kind of disappointed we only saw the cart girl once through 18.
Best I have ever seen this course.
The greens were perfect. Fairways and tees were good. Greeside bunkers were well maintained. Fairway bunkers were more of a waste area. There are several areas where large trees need to be trimmed back to make the course more playable.

Greens are FANTASTIC!!!
The fairways are getting better....Number 3 and Number 4 Fairways need some work and the Bunkers either need to be filled with grass or need to get redone or filled with sand. It has come up a long ways from 3 years ago....I look forward to play it again especially if the necesary touch ups are done.
