Thorntree Country Club

About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Best I have ever seen this course.
The greens were perfect. Fairways and tees were good. Greeside bunkers were well maintained. Fairway bunkers were more of a waste area. There are several areas where large trees need to be trimmed back to make the course more playable.
Almost there!!
Greens are FANTASTIC!!!
The fairways are getting better....Number 3 and Number 4 Fairways need some work and the Bunkers either need to be filled with grass or need to get redone or filled with sand. It has come up a long ways from 3 years ago....I look forward to play it again especially if the necesary touch ups are done.
Tee times too close
The pace of play especially early was rough. It cleared up a bit on the back 9
Great Greens
The greens are in good shape and the rest of the course is being maintained well. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Overpriced
$75 for course where the 95% of bunkers are completely in disrepair, greens are like putting on shag carpet, no water jugs anywhere on the course in 100 degree Texas heat.
How they get away with charging $75 is criminal.
Great course but be prepared to be there all day.
The course was in great shape but pace of play was awful it took us almost 6 hours at times we were watching to groups tee off while we were waiting with a foursome. It will be the reason I don’t go back for awhile.
they really need to put some water jugs out around the course.
Fun Round
I liked the golf course always challenging golf holes but fair. Some of sand traps needed attention and some rough off the fair ways really penalized if drive ran through the fairway after driving over water. We had fun and will play again once the sand traps refilled and rough mowed.
THEY LET PLAYERS MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR ONE PERSON and THEN THEY WANT YOU TO PAY AN EXTRA $25.00 to RIDE BY YOURSELF. IF YOU DON’T PAY YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER SINGLE PLAYER TO SHOW UP !
How do they get away with 7 min tee time intervals?
Overall terrible experience. How in the world can they justify having only 7 minutes between tee times? There were always two group on each tee box, waiting on every shot. After 4.5 hours we left... that was hole 13.
Slowest Round Ever
Almost 3 hours to finish 9 holes. Horrible. Will not be back.
Slowest Play in DFW
2hr 45min for 9 holes. Will not come back. Tee times 8 minutes apart clearly don’t work, surprised they haven’t fixed this yet.
Decant day
Love the challenge of this course. Made me go and buy a slope enabled rangefinder to figure out some of the elevations. Groups sent out in 2s, 3s 4s and 5-somes which made for aggravating pace of play. No water or cart service on course. Need more snacks in pro shop for faster turnaround rather than going into full-service restaurant. Could only get peanuts and chips from shop. Practice putting green is in amazing condition.
Decent track
Decent course, kind of funky in its layout. Fairways are solid, bunkers are hit or miss, and tee boxes were ok but greens are very good.
Traps Getting Better
They are not all refurbished, but they are getting better. Keep up the good work.
