About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

They’ve let the course go.
New owners. It’s going back to being private so don’t waste your money here. The only thing nice were the greens. The rest of the s course is bad. See photos.
Best course to play 7 sum.
Well! Good news for guys who are looking to play 5-7 all together, this is the course . There is no one out there to handle the crowd. What is marshal? This course doesn’t not how to manage period.
Bad news for people who are looking to finish their round on timely manner. Please go some where else.

To much
To much water, like every whole has a whole river forces you to hit really really far or really short so you can hit it over the water. Bring lots of balls
Average course
Need Marshall's on the course to keep pace of play moving. We had to skip a hole to avoid having 5 hour round.
Had to follow a Senior Group of 5. Pace was SLOW and the Course is in bad SHAPE. THE Putting Greens are Great.
Pace of Play was problematic
For the price I would not play here again - Better options in the area for less $$. Tee time was delayed by over an hour - I understand a frost delay but groups of 6 were going out when they were over an hour behind schedule - an hour late + 5.5 hour round lead to a long day. For the price of the round and course conditions, would not recommend. Back 9 was more enjoyable than the front 9

Great Course
Great course for the money they do pack in the tee times though so our Black Friday round took 6 hours and on the 18th hole a rowdy punk playing 17 tried to fight my group. It was a weird day I don’t blame this on the course but they could do a better job making sure that people aren’t over serving theirselves.
Brutally slow back nine & no Marshall
What was going to be a round under 4 hours became a 5 hour rd on the back nine because there was no Marshall seen all day. Won’t be back for a while, lot of options

Great layout
The course has an awesome layout. Challenging with psychological warfare on the tees and some approaches. Make you think about what shot to hit and where. Bunkers were in very sad shape. It looked like mother nature was reclaiming them. Fairways need a little love too. Green rolled great! I'll be back to play again sometime mid-season and see if the fairways are in better condition.
Great Potential, Poor Execution
I’ve always been wanted to play here, but for the longest time it was membership only. Course and amenities were probably in top shape back in the day, but as it stands today, this place needs work. Bunkers have not been raked or cleaned in at least 6 months to a year. Lots of dry, hard patches throughout the fairways and tee boxes. Greens were in good shape though. Clubhouse is out of the way at the turn, which is fine if you have carts running, but there was only one, making it impossible to stay hydrated. There was a building at the turn for snacks/drinks, but was closed. They’ve really let this course go, so they should also do the same on the green fees. Not worth the $70 in my opinion.
