About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Slow pace of play
Left after 6 holes because I was behind a women's group that took over 3 hours just on the front 9. I asked for a rain check to come back and play another day because they wouldn't let us play through them and we were waiting 15 mins on every hole but they wouldn't allow it.
Great course
Wonderful place to play a quick 18. Course is in great shape and has a lot of personality. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Good course for the money. Slow pace
First time playing this course. It was a fun track that needs a little TLC but overall I enjoyed. Would like to come back when its flush. Only able to play front 9 unfortunately.
more difficult than it at first seems
a somewhat challenging course. i’ve only been playing golf for a year now, and average around a 100, and this course has some challenges that were good for me, and i’d assume better golfers would really like

Go thru joined two partner and enjoy round with them.
Not much wet and well maintained courses and fairway.s.

New Owners Needed
Rumor has it this course was sold and is going private again. Good thing! Current owners doing the bare minimum. They have completely given up on the bunkers. Greens OK, fairways are rough, not being well maintained. They should be charging discounted rates!
Hoped for better.
Live in ATX and often travel to Cedar Hill area to play w Dad in his weekly scramble's. Since no scramble on Easter Monday, we played at his old CC course, Thorntree, which he left a few years ago. Love the layout, bunkers were abysmal and moslty unplayable, especailly the fairway bunkers--glad I missed them! Fairways were meh. Greens were good though. I remember this course being a CC course, now its more like a "fair" muni. Pace was great though and enjoy the required strategic landing areas during drive placement. Look forward to playing again as have great memories and hoping the areas of concern, bunkers and fariways, to be addressed.

New owners. It’s going back to being private so don’t waste your money here. The only thing nice were the greens. The rest of the s course is bad. See photos.
Best course to play 7 sum.
Well! Good news for guys who are looking to play 5-7 all together, this is the course . There is no one out there to handle the crowd. What is marshal? This course doesn’t not how to manage period.
Bad news for people who are looking to finish their round on timely manner. Please go some where else.

To much
To much water, like every whole has a whole river forces you to hit really really far or really short so you can hit it over the water. Bring lots of balls
Average course
Need Marshall's on the course to keep pace of play moving. We had to skip a hole to avoid having 5 hour round.
Had to follow a Senior Group of 5. Pace was SLOW and the Course is in bad SHAPE. THE Putting Greens are Great.
