About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

The course was in good shape considering the amount of rain DFW had in the last month. The greens were perfect for this time of year. The course seems to be drying out in certain spots. Some of the tee boxes were a little hard. The biggest draw back was the pace of play. We teed off at 9am on Sunday morning and finished at 2pm. To long for a 100deg day. Over good course.

Slow Players
Fairways are dried out much than other public courses in July in the DFW. This course is definitely challenging and most of greens (Champions Bermuda Grass) are extremely fast with double breaks, so beginners become ,naturally, very slow players because of searching for their balls in creeks, woods, water, hit more shots at uneven lies to the elevated greens and making more than three putts. Especially, most of tee shots of the 18 hole come across to the 17th fairway, so this is one of the factors in slow play. I don't recommend this course to the beginners in this hot weather.

Greens and fairways are awesome
Great greens and fairways. The tee boxes were pretty good but a lot of them were hard. We played a 5 hour round with a 8:40 Thursday tee time. It was awfully slow, no Marshall on the course maintaining pace of play.

Good value on hot deals
Bunkers need to be redone and no water at any water stations on course. You can go into the clubhouse after the front nine and get water though.

Great golf
The golf coarse was nice and greens were true. But golf joes app sucks, it almost cost is the tee time. The staff employee help solve the snafu.

Greens were in great shape, course was in good shape as well. It was wet due to the weather but did not damage the course or round.

Immacupate condition.Fairways are now green though greens are a bit slower than usual they are still true.

Freaking love and hate this course!!!
Easily one of the best courses in the DFW!! Beautiful course in excellent condition, crepe myrtles, oaks and the like all throughout. Best part is the condition from tee box to green!!
The problem is (from the tips) this is a real tough cookie… loads of trouble lurking throughout the course, at 7042 yards it’s not super long but man is that enough to get you into plenty of trouble! The rough is true rough where your club gets caught up, the layout will punish any bad shot and even a good shot that is just slightly misjudged…
Bunkers need work, water containers and ball washers are sorely needed but other than that this is a great spot!!
