About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Poor
I would not come and spend money to play here. Pace of play is ridiculously slow. Members of the course refused to let us play thru citing a “members privilege”. Course condition is poor and greens are exceptionally slow.

Spring is in the air
I played here 6 weeks ago and the grass was still dormant. Yesterday everything was a vibrant green. Greens were plush and receptive but just a tad slow. Fairways were soft and easy to hit irons and woods off of. For the price through golf now it's easily a 5/5 quality and value. Driving range and practice green were in great shape as well. This is my 6th to 8th time playing here and it's up there in condition. It won't let me upload photos I took but trust me bro.

How much can you hold yourself up?
The course is testing your patience level, as well as your shot techniques, including draws & fades. You will need putting skills for up & downhills. Fairway conditions were not good when I played at the end of Apr, so most of tee shots rolled down to the hazard zones; bunker, creek, water. If you didn't play this course previously, please be smart on the tee boxes.

Nice challenge
Enjoy playing this course. Several holes are pretty challenging with sand on both sides of approaching the green. Then a couple of them you really have to hit the right spot or your out of bounds. Course is in good shape .

Course has lots of character
Great layout. A few holes with elevation changes. Greens were in good shape. Tee boxes were a little hard. Fairways many bare spots. Lots of mud. Shoes covered with mud and spikes were caked with mud. Would play again when the course when it has time to heal.

Good course, fairways are thin
Thorntree is a fun course, with several challenging holes. It plays fair, and is pretty open outside of the fairways. Greens were good, but the fairways didn't have a good covering of grass,. I like the course, and will play again. I just hope they can get the fairways to fill in.

The course itself was a little overgrown, but the greens were in great shape. Course is fun but difficult.

Slow play at it's best
It took 3 hours to play the front 9 with no Marshall around........ I might not ever play here again just doesn't make a round of golf enjoyable. The course is in good shape and fun to play< but not worth playing behind 2 slow groups that had 2 groups backed up........... COME ON MAN!!!!!!!

Great Greens! Everything else rough!

Too much dirt
If you were paid under $50, it is alright because of too much dirt all over the courses with less grasses. Green conditions were nice but slow. It was fun because of its challenging layout- a few holes across cliffs, water, and ups & downs.

no sand
Many bunkers have virtually no sand in them, to the extent that the underlay material sticks up through the sand. Thorntree is one of my favorite courses despite it being the most costly of the courses I play.
But I’ll come by to look over its condition before playing it again. Shameful to charge $50 with course in current condition.
