Thorntree Country Club

The only thing positive is the greens are good, after that it's terrible. Tees and fairways are gone and when I mean gone there is nothing but dirt and earth crack's you can break an ankle in literally (no grass that's even brown). I cannot believe they are charging $50 to play this during the week with the course in such bad shape. I will not be back and wish I had read the reviews before I played. They are accurate and spot on, save your money and go somewhere else.

Why would a course have places for water coolers but bo water provided. Very slow play. No Marshall.

First of all, shouldn’t a course have water coolers on the course especially since we have 100 plus temperatures. Overall, this course is going downhill.

$65 dollars to play here during the current conditions is absolutely absurd. Funny thing is, I think they know this. They know exactly what the course looks like right now and they still choose to charge prices that other courses in dfw charge but are in far far better shape. If you know your course is crap and not living up to its standards do the right thing and lower your prices until you get it where it needs to be. Never playing here again unless I see pages of recent good reviews. Only reason why the pace of play was excellent because no one was there. I should of read the reviews before booking.

Tee boxes and fairways are not being watered. Too hard to press in a tee without lots of effort. No or very little grass on the fairways and rough. Greens are watered and left long to not burn out. Bunkers are not maintained. It has been a long time since playing there and it has lost it luster…many others to play instead

No water on the course to drink and no water for the fairways all year long it looked like. Terrible conditions.

Understanding there hasn’t been much rain, this course was still significantly under-maintained. $65 to play was unacceptable for the conditions

Always enjoy playing Thorntree, the fairways are completely burnt up to to the lack of rain but the greens were phenomenal.

My plays here frequently so I decided to give it a shot. First off, what golf course shuts down at 7pm when the sun doesn't even set until 8:30pm? That was frustrating. Then to suggest we walk the course in the heat instead of offering to return another day to play the remaining holes was a bit annoying. Then the course itself could use a little TLC. Disappointed to say the least.

Sad to report that Thorntree is crispy and brown just about everywhere except the greens. I heard a couple of locals the putting green talking about the course being out of water and that they can basically only water the greens (which are pretty good). If you like a hard and fast course that looks like many of the british open courses, then this is your place. I'm really suprised they have not lowered the rates with the conditions being so poor. I know we are in a drought and I feel for them, but come on. I won't be back anytime soon, I hope they are able to recover and get some grass back once we get some rain in the fall, I can't imagine what's going to happen to the course in August if this drought continues.

One of my favorite courses to play but they’ve absolutely lost the tees and fairways due to the heat. The greens are true and the layout is great. It’s too bad they aren’t spending money on watering during the summer.

i have played Thorntree 18 times over 4 years. I love it. it is tough and interesting. today it was great. but it was also 100 degrees by noon when we finished. we drank two large bottles of water by hole 12. NO WATER ON THE COURSE? It is Texas Summer Thorntree. I called the pro shop and nicely they said they would send the cart. The cart lady finally found us on 15. When I said it’s a bit dangerous not to put out jugs of water she said, “a lot of courses have no water.” then she blamed me for not being prepared. I JUST PLAYED IN NEW ENGland AND THEY HAD WATER OUT! I will return in the Fall when the heat subsides and we aren’t being told to get our own liquids figured out.

Hate to give a bad review of a local course, but need to be honest. Tee boxes were in bad shape and hard as a rock. Could barely put a tee in the ground. Fairways are burning up, need some water bad. However, the greens are in great shape. There was no drink cart on the course and no water coolers on the course. The grill was closed and no ice was available for drinks. I have played this course before and was a good experience, but has really gone downhill.

nice course, greens in great shape, fairways good. some rough spots off the fairway but overall ok. pace of play was good,. main complaint is that for a hot summer day --we teed off 8a--there was no drinking water on the course at all, and we didnt see cart girl till 17th hole, which was about noon. NOT acceptable in TX weather in summer time!

Although the greens were slow, they were kept long to keep them from dying in the heat. The course is very dry and will only get worse as the summer goes on. The speed of play was excellent. One group actually let us play through as they were slower than we were. This courtesy is unheard of at a public course. All things considered it was a good value. The course is in overall fair shape and shows minimal maintenance. You get what you pay for. Thorntree is an excellent layout and when it is in good shape, it is well worth playing. An excellent course to play when you want to plan a last minute tee time.

As per other reviews on this course, the green are pretty good. Now the not so good... I went and started asking questions around the clubhouse and the staff after my round as to why you need a hammer to put a tee in the ground on the tee boxes, the bunkers are all hard pan and all the fairways are turning brown, with earth cracks big enough to loose your golf ball or ankle into. Short answer, they are out of water. I was told they had to quit watering fairways 2 weeks ago and are now down to only being able to water the greens with the limited amount of water they have left. Sorry, but not gonna pay nearly $70 out the door to play a course with tee's and fairways in such poor condition and only getting worse by the day. Maybe in the fall after several inches of rain, but not going back anytime soon....

I’ve played here many times. Love the course layout and staff. My biggest two things have never changed over the years. 1, the brakes on the carts never lock easily. It seems like it’s always a battle to get the parking brake to engage. The other big complaint is the green management. While the greens are beautiful, if I go in the morning, they’re a soggy mess, so much that I’m worried my shoes will pull a big chunk out. Putts shoot up rooster tails of water and the ball skirts along for the first 3 ft. Also, pin placement is consistently horrible. Call it what you will, but pins shouldn’t be 3ft from the fringe on every green on every day. Admittedly I’ve never played a Mon-Wed round, but have several Thurs-Sun rounds and they’ve always been like this. Maybe I’ve just had a bad draw.

I guess this golf course could be a great place, greens were the only thing up to par, drought and hot days the reasons I guess for fairways very dry, tee box hard to tee up balls and sand bunkers were very hard and compact. After the 9th hole went to go and get something to eat very quickly and the person there said it would be a 15-20 minute wait , that’s after looking for her for around 5-10 minutes, but it’s ok. Not having anyone in sight all day in front of us or behind us made this a pleasant day, I’ll take playing golf without being pushed is GREAT. Partnered up with two amazing, soon to be father who knew the course like the back of their hands, made for a pleasant day. Oh well! Mahaloz, Connor and Mike, for putting up with us, ALOHA!
