About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

8 person groups
Course is great. The problem is they have no Marshall. It was 100 degrees and a 5 hour round. 3 groups in front of us had anywhere from 6-8 people playing in there groups. Cart girl told us they book 2 tee times and play together. Never seen a course this backed up. These bozos had 7 people in there group, while trying to teach their girlfriends to play. Chunking ball up the fairway. Horrible to allow 3 groups to ruin the entire day for everyone.
Great layout
Gr8 course. My only issue were the extremely slow greens.

Brought Client To Play Golf
Have played here before and fairways were in much better shape. Surprised they were not in top shape this early in the year.
The client I took to play was not as impressed as I had hyped the course up to be.

We saw beverage personnel after our first hole & never saw anybody again.

Good course terrible customer service
Booked a early tee time on a Holiday weekend so expected Holiday pricing. I was unaware that on course services would be nonexistent. On a 5 hour round we did not see the beverage cart 1 time! On a day where the heat is rising and the round is long this is unacceptable.
I love this course overall it’s fun to play and usually in good shape but they seem to be running on a skeleton crew right now. No beverage cart, no Marshall, and only 2 people working the restaurant.
When I mentioned the above to an employee post round I was told you should’ve just bought drinks before you went out. I mean we would’ve had someone told us there would be no snacks or Gatorade available on course.

Don’t play behind a tournament! Nice course though
Our round took 6 hours and 7 minutes. We tee’d off 50 minutes after our scheduled time. The greens and course were in excellent condition, but the scheduling of regular tee times behind a tournament was a huge mistake. It was by far the longest round of my life, even though several groups ahead of us got frustrated and left.

They sold tee times while a full tournament was going on. Every hole was 4 groups deep and my tee time (that was delayed 40 minutes) look nearly 4 hours to play 9 holes

Upon arriving, told tee times were 3-4 groups behind. Threes groups waiting on tee boxes the entire front nine. 3pm scheduled tee time and couldn’t play the 18th hole due to darkness. Pace of play has never been stellar here but this was an all time low.

Pace of play was horrendous
This was the worst experience of golf I think I have ever had. We only played 3 holes because we teed off 20 minutes late and we waited behind 2 groups at each hole. There was a tournament going on earlier that day so it makes sense why it would be backed up but that could be fixed by not overbooking the course. Overall, not a bad course but the pace of play was unbearable.

Great value
Course was in pretty good shape. Had some areas that needed attention but overall really good. Greens were much better than I expected.

Poor
I would not come and spend money to play here. Pace of play is ridiculously slow. Members of the course refused to let us play thru citing a “members privilege”. Course condition is poor and greens are exceptionally slow.

Spring is in the air
I played here 6 weeks ago and the grass was still dormant. Yesterday everything was a vibrant green. Greens were plush and receptive but just a tad slow. Fairways were soft and easy to hit irons and woods off of. For the price through golf now it's easily a 5/5 quality and value. Driving range and practice green were in great shape as well. This is my 6th to 8th time playing here and it's up there in condition. It won't let me upload photos I took but trust me bro.

How much can you hold yourself up?
The course is testing your patience level, as well as your shot techniques, including draws & fades. You will need putting skills for up & downhills. Fairway conditions were not good when I played at the end of Apr, so most of tee shots rolled down to the hazard zones; bunker, creek, water. If you didn't play this course previously, please be smart on the tee boxes.
