About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Thorntree is a gem
Our group plays all over the DFW metro area and we all really enjoy Thorntree. It still feels like a Country Club when you are on the course. Great layout, great shape, just the right variety and difficulty of holes for our guys who play between 75 and 90.
Pay for extra cart..? Why?
I booked 2 players paid on GN. I was charged extra $10 bucks for a 2nd cart at golf shop. Maybe the CDC should be hearing from this. Worker at front said if I book 2 separate bookings It Will come come with 1 cart each..! Really..?
Pace of play. Very slow. Greens were inconsistent Fast Very fast. Normal. Thais should be better cause the weather here has been great. Maybe need new ground operations.
Poor pace of play
The course is nice I will admit that. The pace of play was horrible. There is no golf etiquette at this place. It took us 5 hours to finish 18 holes. This killed my game having to wait on every hole. Will not come back.
Great track!
Well maintained and challenging for all levels. Top tracer at the range is a fantastic amenity. All facilities clean and well appointed.
House warning on #9 - stay in the fairway!!
Nice round
The greens were smooth and pace of play was awesome. Played 2 balls and finished in 2.5 hours.
Challenging Course
This course will help you improve on your driving accuracy and to hit from the sand traps.
Slow Greens
The course is in great condition but the greens are slow.
Great course
Friendly staff, lots of options in the clubhouse and restaurant, great layout with excellently manicured fairways and greens.
