About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Difficult but fun
Crazy difficult course but fun to play. Greens were in great shape.

Great layout
Overall the experience was fun. Great layout and given the time of year and recent winter storm the course was in good shape. Pace of play is most likely always an issue. I say that because if it’s an issue on a slow Monday you can expect it to be more of the same when it’s busy. The hot deal I got was definitely worth it, $24 with tax, but at regular price still not too bad.

awesome greens...fast fairways
really great conditions considering the time of year...greens fantastic...clean no weeds and fast...fairways dormant but cut great and semi hard so your ball runs a ways...overall great all around

Very good greens
Grass is winter brown and super fast when you hit the fairways...loved the extra distance...greens were fantastic....fantastic I said...super fast very well maintained...best winter experience so far!!!

Course closed but tee times were on GOlf now
Should probably take the tee times off of golf now if your course is going to be closed that day. Drove all the way there for the course to be closed but the tee time was accepted on golf now.
