Phillips Park Golf Course
This is a great golf course for the great price. The staff is very friendly and the greens are in great shape.
Philips park course
This was a nice golf course, greens are in great condition, I can see why people get frustrated with the pace of the game, because people are always backed up. Overall this was a great course,
great value
course is in great condition for any time of the year especially November. Greens were a bit shaggy but overall the tees fairways and greens were in great condition. Interesting course with some fun holes. Can't beat the price.
Great Scene But Crazy Landscapers
This course is nicely laid out but the two things that bothersome was the landscapers had not a care in the world as we sat 120 yards out for 2 minutes while they mowed the green. Then after we hit near and on the green they continued to mow the green making us wait once more to putt. Unfortunately they followed us to the next hole and still mowed fairways and greens just in front of us. I swear I was looking for the candid camera because surely this must be a joke but it wasn't. Then this place has absolutely the worst sand traps I have ever seen. Luckily I never went into one but these traps are much worse than Klein Creek. You'd think they would send the mowers to the sand traps instead. Haha
Aerated Greens
Played this course several times..usually in great shape. Scheduled to play 18 holes yesterday (9/23) and when we arrived at the course found out the greens were aerated on 9/22. They were in terrible shape. Also, encountered course workers on 6 of the first 9 holes. Not too relaxing. I understand that the greens need to be aerated but STRONGLY suggest they inform people on the phone prior to booking a tee time.
Hazards make life interesting
The water in the water dispensers was cold. Although the weather was forecast to be hot, a nice breeze and good shade made the outing perfect.
Some courses have eliminated many hazards. Philips Park still has plenty of sand traps and water hazards.
There were a few holes with narrow fairways, but many with wide approaches.
I think it was 14 that had a wide approach, but I sliced two drives to the right, into the fesque.
The greens played fast and the greens were shapely without being comical.
Great back 9
Love the course. Play has been slow lately. Friendliness of the staff needs some help!
Great shape
Course is in fantastic shape, greens are great, smooth, quick, and can hold the ball relatively well with most shots. Great value. Must play if near by. Also a confidence booster
Public course but USGA legit
I have played in this course before it was renovated in 2001 and it was under a different name. I have to say the improvement makes it pleasurable to be on a slightly sunny afternoon.
For a Friday afternoon the pace was better than average and it wasn't so crowded as I expected on Fridays.
Since we arrived 30 minutes early, the staff was kind and helpful to direct us to the starter and he was kind enough to let us start 15 minutes early. The high grasses are what to avoid specially on par 5's where you can easily loose your ball. The greens are well maintained and scenic tee boxes on back-9. These are the qualities that makes golfing so enjoyable even if it's a hard course.
The only complaint I have was the husband and wife 2-some behind us. The man has no ethics! He would tee off while we were still in the fairway, when he knows we are still waiting for the group in front of us to get off the greens before we could shoot. So he tried to push us forward. And when the marshall caught up with us on 7th hole, he was trying to tell us we were behind pace. 7th hole green in 1-hour and 20 minutes? I think that was faster than average. So I gave my warning to the marshall that if the guy shoots again for the "4th time" while were in the fairway, I will throw back or toss his ball in the woods.
We finished the front-9 in an hour and 45 minutes. We never saw them again in the back-9.
Other than that it was a pleasant golfing afternoon.
I'll play here again with my buddy if we see a good hot deal on a weekend.
former golf course supt.
DON'T PLAY THIS COURSE !!! I have played this course off and on for 30 years. I like the design and hills. I was very disappointed with the staff and course conditions and pace of play. 1) The staff was rude, I normally get to the course 45 minutes to a hour before my tee time to putt and hit a few balls at the range to loosen up. The counter guy gives me a lecture about us " Golf Now Guys " coming early and think we can get out earlier than our assigned time. Then after listening to this guy the starter came in and told me how busy they where where and he said they were 20 minutes behind later unless I got out right away. So I did. I instantly caught up with a 4 sum 2 women and 2 guys walking who had no idea of course etiquette. They would stand on the greens figuring out how many strokes they had taken. No ranger anywhere around. 2) course was full of weeds, greens were in poor conditions bare patches and bumpy, as a whole it was a mess. 3) I mentioned the 4 sum that started in front of us they let us through on the 5th hole then we caught a new 4 sum walking on the 7th hole that seemed to be playing for money and I honestly believe that they might have been the slowest group I've ever followed. ( and I was a superintendent at Sun City Center in Florida for 16 years). They seemed to have the additude we are regulars, you'll have to wait. And we could see no one in front of them for several holes. When I went in afterwards and told the counter guy he laughed and said you must have caught the "Winter's group" and he actually laughed. This course will never get another dime from me !!!!
Nice City Course
Fairway and greens were in good shape for this late in season. There were many leaves on the course but there were people out there blowing them away. Really a good value for the money.
Great Condition
Other than the greens having been aerated and top dressed, the course was in fantastic shape!
Just the right amount of challenge & value...
This is my "Home" course, so granted I'm a little biased, but best suited for the golfer trying to get in 18 without all the "bells and whistles". It's a short course, but it really maximizes its distance with hazard placement and sneaky long holes. A good choice every time.
Hidden Gem of a Public Course
Great course conditions, overall very impressed with condition...only a few holes could use some love around the greens and all fairways and tee boxes were well kept up.
The pace was very slow on this day, as it seemed many foursomes out on the course.
Overall its a good course close to my house, play it a handful of times a year when I want to just get out and play a round.
Quick 18
18 holes done on a weekday afternoon in record time. Courteous players allow faster ones to play through. Fairways and rough in excellent condition, but lots of unrepaired greens-enough to influence score.
Super nice for a muni!!!
Awesome course for the money. It is very short, so if you are an advanced golfer I recommend playing from the tips.
My wife and I played, and she is a beginner, and she found the course accessible and not too intimidating.
The course offers some challenging holes along with some bunnies which makes for fun golf when you have a chance at a birdie or two. The greens were nice and the landscaping excellent.
Overall, this is a great place to play
Nice course for the money
I really enjoyed this course. Starter was very helpful explaining some tips and tricks. Well kept bunkers and greens. Just an overall nice place to spend an afternoon.
Great course for the money
Being a novice golfer I always search for the best deals when playing 18. Sometimes however this leads to a below average course. Not at Philips Park. The course was very well kept and the pace of play was quick but still relaxing. I would and will definitely come back.
Great course
The course was in good shape and the staff was very friendly
