Great golf course
Fantastic condition and love had water coolers in multiple locations on the course, a rarity. Good prices in the clubhouse too for drinks and food. Other courses should be more like Phillips Park.
Going downhill
Bunkers have no sand. Anthills are consuming tee boxes.
Good price, get what you pay for, not going back
Exremely short course. Rarely use driver unless you want to drive the green. Terrible layout. Cheap so you get what you pay for. Won’t be back.
Great course for beginners
Shorter course with less hazards which is great for newer golfers. Staff is very friendly. Clean bathrooms, good food, and course it kept well for park district standards.
Carts are aggravating
Course was generally in good condition. The worst was the new GPS system on the carts. They continually stopped without warning and on many occasions would not restart even using the reverse directive. We had to push them on more than one occasion. Stopped when there was no good reason. Once just off cart path, once in fairway ten yards short of the signs that directed carts off the fairway. Many other times that didn't appear to be an issue.
Just ruined what would have been an enjoyable day..
A very good course with moderate challenge
This course has a really good layout with most holes providing plenty of challenges to the ordinary golfer. I will recommend this course to anyone. Not a long course, but the design makes up for it. One minor point is the rough around the fairways is almost 100% crab grass, Hitting a ball out of this can be difficult.
still not up to standards
As I stated in previous postings, Phillips has struggled with the overall conditions. The accidental killing of large sections of grass on the front nine and the continuing poor conditions of the greens is the reason behind a "poor rating" for Phillips. The greens are just not in good shape. When I see people post that they're in excellent shape I wonder what they're thinking. I've played here for years and have never seen it like this.
