Abhorrent condition
Been play here for years. Never seen the course in such bad shape. Extremely disappointing.
Front 9 Needs some Work
Philips Golf Course is a nice course that is a good place to get your game in shape. Last year, the course was in great shape but this year the front nine has burnt grass on most of the holes. The course and tee boxes need some watering.
Front 9 burned out rough, back 9 perfect
This is an older established course that is fun to play. No homes encroaching and each hole is unique. However, the staff applied the wrong chemical (Round Up?) to the rough on the front 9 and it was totally dead. The fairways and greens were fine and the back 9 was perfect, so we still enjoyed the round.
Nice track. Just enough challenge at every hole !
This is one of my favorite courses in the area. Not too difficult to walk. The holes are laid out nicely. Friendly people at the desk. Needs some attention to the sand bunkers. They are rock hard!
Halfway house ruined our experience
Everything was really great. Pace of play was good. Conditions were good except it seemed like did some recent drainage improvements as there were quite a few patches of new grass under repair. Starter was really nice and the ranger came by a couple times to check on everyone. Cart girls made their rounds as well. Only bad thing we experienced was the kitchen didn’t prepare our food order when we called ahead of time.
Enjoyable round
Challenging layout with many hills. Greens in great shape. Large sections with “burnt out” grass-not sure why? Would play again
Front nine was burned from over fertilizer!!
At hole 10 the rain began and didn’t stop,
so we did 😩
Golfing on Mother’s Day
It was Mother’s Day, but the pace of play on the back nine was terrible. The staff inside were friendly, but the starter was extremely rude.
Phillips Park Golf Course grounds are being mis managed
This is a fun golf course, great to walk and not very hard, a real confidence booster. I've played it for years now.
Unfortunately the Course Superintendent, or acting Superintendent is doing a terrible job of taking care of the course. The greens are obviously stressed, showing signs of browning out, which seems near impossible in the this wet season, yet they are.
The course is not being properly roped off to manage the wet areas and carts are allowed to drive all over the course digging up fairways and rough alike.
Add to that a horrible mistake of over fertilizing a bunch of areas on the front nine, that have now turned brown and are dying off, you have the makings of a once really nice park district course, in a possible irreversible decline.
Adding to the mismanagement, is a huge % increase in greens fees (40%) for the seniors, both residents and non residents that were not reflected across the board. For many of us fixed income seniors this seems like an unnecesary and harsh treatment of the very folks who use the golf course the most.
I love to golf I have my best score at your establishment I have golf there almost 40 years If you giver a golfer a beautiful they will be there To the putting Is my outmost passion Take care of the greens The putting practice area has to be a little bigger More space More people better golfers and happy happy golfers makes organization Become happy That’s what life is all about
Price hikes and poor conditions.
I've played Phillips Park for years and always found it to have good conditions at a good price. Conditions this season are bad and they have raised prices. Especially for seniors, prices have jumped 40% to walk 18. The senior membership cost has been rumored to go up over 30%. For those of us seniors on fixed incomes it hits especially hard. This is a park district facility so it's not clear if this is a course management or city hall decision.
Great course!!
I play here all the time and love it. Course is always in dynamite shape, staff is very friendly, good food. Great overall value.
Horrible staff and horrible players
Course was good nothing wrong with it but staff was extremely rude specially the worker in the pro shop. No one yells fore, got hit multiple times from the group behind and no ranger to control the situation.
Phillips Park Review
Not much to say on it, the course aside from the greens was in pretty good shape. Early season rounds are usually not a good litmus of overall course conditions, but it seemed like last year’s abuse on the greens carried into this year. Otherwise fun track, Enjoyed my time there!
