Pleasant Return
It had been at least 3 years since my last visit and I must admit that the course was better than I remembered. A lot of tricky short holes on the front where accuracy is a must. The back nine is stronger with some very good holes coming in. Course is a little rough when you're off the fairways. The greens were very slick making it difficult on some very undulating greens. A fun day and we'll be back.
Great time, first time.
This is definitely a course worth playing. If it’s your first time bring an extra ball or four. There are a few surprises. Water the may not look like it is in play can get you. Very nice facilities.
Nice track for the money.
My friend who played this as his first long course snd I had a good time playing this desert course. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the value was good.
Great value
Other reviewers have used the word “rustic” so I was curious what they meant. Fairways and greens were pristine! The yardage book (free! I’ve been hit up for $5 at some spendy courses?) was extremely helpful as there are doglegs & blind shots & some tight fairways. What’s rustic is the cart paths and there aren’t ball washers on envy tee box - not a big deal for me. This was a fun experience and well worth the great price with a friendly & accomodating staff. The greens were very fast and had a lot of undulations and weren’t all that big. It was a difficult course to consistently score well on first time out. I usually shoot in the low to mid 80’s and I had my hands full trying to stay in that range. It’s the kind of course you’ll play better the more you play it - can’t wait to return. My only criticism is that I love to walk and this is NOT a walking course - long carries between some holes and lots of elevations changes. There a few houses but it’s not lined by McMansions and the scenery is beautiful desert. I understand there are some newer, more upscale courses in Wickenburg, and we’ll get around to playing them someday, but this was a fun, challenging, classic old golf course and a GREAT value!
enjoyed
excellent course , great pace of play , nice variety of holes , good greens , MUST be straight off the tee. plays longer than the 6300 yards from the back tees. most greens have tiers and needed several rounds to learn proper places to place approach shots.
Good value
The course is a little rustic, not fancy, but worth the drive.
Nice and quiet
I love this course, peaceful and quiet! No traffic noise, lovely and green even some different bird life to see! Some distance between holes, not the best cart paths, but great fun!
Interesting
Course was in good condition. Fairways are quite narrow with a lot of blind tee shots. Played from the back tees and that may have been a mistake. If you've never played here before suck up your pride and play the white tees I'm sure you'll be glad you did. Everyone here is very friendly and accommodating, Its worth the drive out from Phoenix for the price they charge.
Target golf with nature
Nice course with unusual setting. The course is blended into the natural environment allowing the natural mountain and desert area to determine the lay of the course. Very tight with no room for error this is a beautiful and rustic course. Not particularly long but with enough length to keep you focused. Hazards all around and soft greens with quickness. Nice course that I will play again.
Fun Day
We enjoyed our round at Wickenburg Country Club. The course is very pretty, but you also have to be able to place your shots and when that does not always work you have to rely on spousal relief.
Good Buy
Greens, fairways were in great shape. Little rough around the edges. Not a lot of work maintaining the course beyond greens and fairways. But greens and fairways were in great shape.
Tight and Tough
Worth the 30 minute drive. White tees play long enough with the overseeing and no roll this time of year. Only negative is the travel time to get from 4th hole to 5th hole.
lovely
I love this course, lovely and quiet, birds singing, the odd train going by on the tracks. . . peaceful.
Love it or not
Yes Wickenburg has a unique layout and a shorter length that might entice you to hit from the back. Go ahead if you want to be humbled. We enjoyed a FANTASTIC round in perfect conditions early in the morning before the sun got too hot. Pace of play was superb (3.5 hrs) and the overseeding had left the course in pristine condition. We would have had lunch there as the restaurant is usually reliable but had other items to attend to. Great day - we'll be back.
What a Gem
This course was in tip-top shape. A little soggy, but it's all part of the over-seeding process. Lush fairways and smooth greens that held even short shots. This course has many challenging holes that demand quality shots. It is a desert course in the true sense of the term. Very few houses around the course and you can find trouble in the desert very easily. Fantastic views.
