What a day!
The course was great. We had a great time. We will be back for sure!
Golfers of all abilities will enjoy this course!
Weather conditions super and course is in great shape. Worth the 45 min. drive . Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Lots of character and and history here! Very enjoyable round !
a golf oasis
Who knew!? Took my sticks on a camping trip to Williams just in case there was time for golf. What a pleasant surprise this course was.
The greens are nearly perfect and fast, fairways are lush. Overall the course is pretty short but it has its moments, the par 5 17th is just a mean(but fun) hole from tee to green, the par 3's are really nice from the tips. Quality sand around the greens should you land there.
My one complaint; speed. At one point we had 4 groups on 1 hole and no marshal anywhere cracking the whip.(he was there, just not being very assertive, note to the manager please a mean marshal out there!)
The staff was terrific, very friendly and helpful.
It's a 'down-homey' no frills kind of place with gravel driveway and cart paths but I'd play it every day if I could.
Sand covered greens
Coming in from Phoenix, I called ahead two days before to make sure the course didn't have any alerts and that there weren't any issues with the course conditions. They lied and said that it was in fantastic condition, there were no problems, and there would be no scheduled maintenance any time soon. I golf there 2 days later and the greens were covered in sand. Terrible, I wish they would have just been honest and saved me a long drive.
Nice weather
It was good to get out of the heat in the valley and head up to Williams for the cooler weather. Beautiful setting in the pines. The fairways and greens were immaculate. Pace of play was ok. Pretty straightforward layout with a few challenging holes. Staff was great and the marshall helped move things along. Would certainly recommend.
Best Value in AZ
Elephant Rocks is worth the trip north. Our group makes the drive from PHX to Williams several times a year to play this course. One of the best "muni" courses you'll find anywhere. Great staff, Great Weather, Really Great Golf Course....what else can you ask for? Oh yeah, Great Value
A very pleasant day
We enjoyed this course. The staff was so helpful, the restaurant served fabulous food, and the course itself was challenging, well marked and well kept. Please don't tell anybody about this course, it is our little secret.
went to play to get out of the heat in phoenix
this is a fun and nice golf course, went up there to avoid the first real heat wave in phoenix,118 degrees in phoenix,88 degrees in Williams,az. in the afternoon 2:30pm tee time, starters where very busy had a tourney that had just finished but nice and friendly, grumpy guy in the bar but understandable due to tourney, greens and golf course in great shape nice layout is a bit different after 5th hole these are the "new"holes added several years ago but blends nice and the 18th hole is almost worth the time to play the course, will go back and play again for sure.
Elephant Rocks GC
Visiting Flagstaff and wanted to play neighboring public courses; unfortunately played in 25 mph winds in 67 degree temps. It was miserable so it's really hard to rate this course properly. Tee boxes are nice (only 3 of them), fairways are average, bunkers are ok, and greens are fairly consistent (medium fast). Cart paths are rocks and bumpy. Pace is slow, but a foursome let us play through. Layout is strange, with back nine a totally different track. Very long and short par 4s and a few long par 3s from the White Tees. Finishing holes 17 and 18 are terrific to play. Will play again for sure in better conditions.
Great round
Elephant rocks is always well maintained and greens are always up to par. Half the price of Continental and twice the fun. If your willing to drive a measly half hour, your in for a treat. Don't waste time in Flagstaff. Even Munds park is better than Continental. Drive for the drive!
Good course Fun round
Great fun in the pines! Beautiful scenery and good golf!
Fun course to play
Staff greeted well. Noted to us that there was no beverage service on the course so ordered a couple of brews to go. They put them on ice in a carrier! Wife and I played with a couple of locals. Played in three and a half hours. Nice setting. Few trees. Fairways are wide. You should play this course!!!!
Excellent course excellent value
First time up here and will definitely recommend to friends played late in the year and was surprised to see such excellent course conditions. From Chandler Arizona and being a time of year most courses are overseedin I was excited to have the opportunity to play. Staff was very friendly and got me and my buddy right out onto the course. Will definitely return if I'm back in the area.
Great Greens
Elephant Rocks had the best greens I have putted on this year.
Fantastic Change of Pace
If you're tired of constantly hunting for a ball in the desert and scuffing new irons up or just looking for a place where EVERYTHING is green, then look no further than Elephant Rocks. I was pointed here over a local Prescott course by another area course pro and this did not disappoint. While it was not an overly long course, it still required us to hit shots off of all sorts off of varyious lies in the fairways. The fairways themselves placed the ball on a tee each time we were in it...not one person in my foursome ever complained about the fairway. The rough, while long and penalizing, still allowed us to take a shot at the green provided we missed on the correct side of the fairway as the pine trees lining the outside of the rough lines would come into play. I cannot say enough about the greens...they rolled very true and had good pace to them, but would we had no problems holding long irons or hybrids if going for Par5's in two. The beverage cart was out and about very regularly and the marshall even made a point to stop by and comment how beautiful of a day it was and that we essentially had the course to ourselves. Everyone from the gentleman in the pro shop through to the marshall and beverage cart exhibited a high degree of customer service that only further increased our group's experience and satisfaction with making the drive north. I will absolutely be back over the next couple of weeks.
Great day in the mountains
Great time playing this course again can't get any better weather and a great day of golf
A Real Gem
Great course and in fantastic shape. Greens are some of the best in Arizona. They are quick but not lightning fast and putt true. Fairways are excellent and cut at a good height. First cut of rough is approximately 1-1/2 so good shots can be made. Second cut is at approx. 2-1/2 so care must be taken when trying to recover. Sand traps were all prepped and drag and had good sand to allow recovery. We played in 3-1/2 hours at a leisurely pace behind a foursome and in front of another twosome. A truly enjoyable round of golf and we will return next year.
Great course for the price
I golfed this course with my 7 yr old son, he rode along but did not play. We were also with my buddy and his 10 yr old son who also just rode along. We were paired with another couple who were great.
The course was in great shape and was a good combination of difficulties. I would recommend it for any skill level.
The staff, well, thats where things could be improved. Mainly it was just one guy in the office, wish I remembered his name. Quite frankly, he was a jerk. Luckily, there was another guy in the clubhouse when we checked in, who took over and was super friendly and very accommodating. After talking with other regulars at the course, it sounds like this is a known issue. Hopefully they find a replacement because other than him, we had a great experience.
Also, we got down with our round around 5:30 and the clubhouse/bar was already closed, which was kind of a bummer. I believe there might have been a special event going on, a wedding maybe, so maybe thats why.
Overall, a great course, great deal and if I'm in Williams again I'll definitely play it again. I'll just avoid "the jerk".
Terrible Staff Courtesy
This guy who was playing in front of us yelled and screamed at us for going around the wrong way to the bathroom in the cart. Started yelling and screaming at the group in front of him for I do not know what. I flagged down a ranger to tell him about this guy and was told THIS GUY WORKS THERE AS A RANGER and does that while he plays.
Great conditions
Beautiful weather, great conditions every golfers should play this course.
