For five months a year, Arizona is one of golf's epicenters in America. With so many great courses, choosing the best public golf course in Arizona is a challenging and subjective exercise.
GolfPass releases a Top 25 Public Golf Courses in Arizona every January thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.
Each course needed at least five reviews and at least some public access to qualify. Arizona offers great golf, whether it's a desert course or one that plays like a parkland experience. These top public golf courses will all impress. Great golf is plentiful.
We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

Elephant Rocks Golf Course
Green fee: 50$
What they're saying: "I liked Elephant Rocks. It was rustic and laid out a little differently than most of the courses I’ve played, but this wasn’t a bad thing. The conditions were very good and it’s definitely challenging. I’ll for sure comeback and play here again." - Exodux1 -
Emerald Canyon Golf Course
Green fee: $20-$80
What they're saying: "Love this course.. really cool holes and everyone that works there is super nice and friendly." - b550834 -
Granite Falls Golf Club - South Course
Surprise, ArizonaSemi-PrivateGreen fee: $90-$130
What they're saying: "I have played this course multiple times this summer and it has not once disappointed me. Today was a bit windy which made it more interesting. I still had a great time. The greens still require a firm putt, but once you know that you can score well. The fairways and rough can be a little bit thick or fuzzy at times, so you might not get much roll out.. However, to me it seemed like the ball was teed up so I didn't mind it. I enjoy playing this course. It is in much better shape than some of the other courses in the area." - Smckatowa -
Oakcreek Country Club
Green fee: $64-$134
What they're saying: "This is an enjoyable course. We are from our of town and had a wonderful experience!!!" - jboyer4233 -
Wildfire Golf Club - Faldo Course
Phoenix, ArizonaPublic/ResortGreen fee: $99-$263
What they're saying: "The Faldo course was a little more friendly off the tee than most, with larger fairways, but still challenging due to a lot of bunkers. The far sides of the fairways also had longer grass than many courses in Phoenix/Scottsdale, so it helped the ball stay in play more. Other courses seem to have such hard, short grass on the perimeter that it can sometimes kick out after a less-than-perfect shot. I'll be back." - jasontcowley -
Whirlwind Golf Club - Devil's Claw
Chandler, ArizonaResortGreen fee: $184-$259
What they're saying: "In hot summer this year, the course is in very good condition. We enjoy playing there." - HotPinkGolfBall -
Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Green fee: $95-$287
What they're saying: "I found The Raven golf course on the GolfNow app. Very happy for the find. This course is a beautiful, challenging course. The staff and vibe was super chill and welcoming. I hope to come back here in the near future. 5 stars for me." - Champdagramp5 -
TPC Scottsdale - Stadium Course
Green fee: $500+
What they're saying: "We had a great day. From the moment we dropped our bags staff were nice and helpful. We hit some balls before our round. Then putted. The front 9 is easier than the back but with 5 holes with water on the back, it’s beautiful. Even though they are already preparing for Phoenix Open, the course is very playable. Cart path only is hard in the heat but we were careful to hydrate a lot. I birdied the 16th hole which made my day. We ate lunch afterwards in the clubhouse restaurant and it was great." - LStep1 -
Wickenburg Ranch Golf & Social Club
What they're saying: "I really can’t find anything that wasn’t excellent." - 98azelda
-
Cimarron Golf Club
Green fee: $90-$130
What they're saying: "First time playing this track and it was enjoyable. For summer golf I thought it was a bit pricey but what the heck for a first time course. Overall it was a good value and the course is in the best shape of any course I have played in the last month plus.
Definitely will be back." - jamesupton -
Troon North Golf Club
Green fee: $173-$377
What they're saying: "First time playing here, but it is everything I have heard. From the moment you step out of the car until you are back in it to leave, the staff here is top notch and friendly. The course is amazing, well maintained, great carts with GPS, greens and bunkers about perfect even given this time of year. What I learned. This course is a lot tighter than it looks. Next time I would hit more 3 wood than driver to stay in the fairway. The ball seemed to roll off into bushes and in to penalty areas quite a bit. Recommend sacrificing a little distance for being in the fairway. Can’t wait to come back. 😀" - erciaasen -
Whirlwind Golf Club - Cattail Course
Green fee: $184-$259
What they're saying: "In Arizona for 12 days from NC and played every day with deals off GolfNow. Booked this for the last day and glad I did! This course was plush and very challenging. Gorgeous views with strategically placed traps and trees. Dog legs left and right, with multiple tee options for you to choose from to decide how much you want to bite off!! I put this course in my top three along with Grayhawk and Phoenician. Only negative I have is it was CPO as they’ve started over seeding the fairways and the greens were fuzzy and slow as well due to this. Undulating fairways and greens added to the course whereas most tracks around the area are all perfectly flat. Loved this course and would play it again on a return trip. You won’t be disappointed and will be glad you booked this one." - Warren2620194 -

The staff is extremely friendly. The members at Tucson National were great and gave me tips on how to play the course. Definitely recommend." - MKPROSHOP -
Sterling Grove Golf & Country Club
Green fee: $68-$132
What they're saying: "Sterling Grove had a great layout and is in very good condition. A lot of people complain about the tough greens, but that is one of the things that makes this course unique. You have to play your shots to the correct area of the greens. Very good variety of holes, not boring to play at all. There are risk/reward holes and plenty of challenge no matter which tees you play." - golfnut4083 -

What, no We-Ko-Pa??
Saguaro got hit with a one-star review for slow play, which greatly impacted its score. Cholla only had one review in 2024, so it wasn't eligible. Give them a review next time you play them to ensure they have a chance to make the list in the future.
