Heritage Oaks Golf Course
About
Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Heritage Oaks Golf Course sprawls across a diverse terrain that provides the course with plenty of variety. The par-70 layout has both links-style holes and more traditional, tree-lined holes. The front nine is more player friendly. There are some good opportunities to build up your score before facing the tougher back nine. It's a tighter layout with more trees, demanding accuracy and careful course management. A stream meanders through the golf course, connecting to the ponds that also come into play, especially on the back nine. There are also several strategically placed bunkers that lurk along the greensides. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's player friendly enough for beginners to approach with confidence. Four sets of tees make Heritage Oaks G.C. accessible to players of all skill levels.

Prime Conditions Make This The Best Time To Play
I play this course a few times a year; it used to be my home course before I moved away. The layout remains solid for a muni course and the more you play it, the more you appreciate its design. Conditions are generally pretty consistent here and despite a very hot and dry summer in the Valley so far, the course maintenance team has done a great job keeping the course very playable with few signs of heat stress. The course can get busy but it’s not too expensive either (especially if you walk or get a GolfNow Hot Deals tee time), making this course a good value.
Heritage Oaks remains the best public course in the Harrisonburg area and I always recommend a visit; and if you live here, a membership.
Great course. Mix of challenging holes. Well kept. Would recommend.
Excellent Course
Fun, challenging course. The staff really take care of the grounds, best I've seen in a long time. Friendly staff and nice to see them assisting groups regularly during the round. Several deer ran across the course (wow) and you can tell they are used to golfers. Overall pretty enjoyable experience.
Local favorite
Great course. Course conditions were nice. Pace of play was slow with walkers taking their time.
Well groomed course.
Heritage Golf course is a very well groomed pretty course. Definitely a golf stop for anyone in Harrisonburg, VA. The staff if very friendly and welcoming.
Amazing Value!!!
Visiting from Florida, saw this course as the top rated around the Charlottesville area where I’m staying. Amazing course. So amazing that I booked another tee time there the next day. Cheap tee time through GolfNow. Worth every penny. Very well manicured and a variety of types of holes. Didn’t see any poorly kept areas other than what they already have sectioned off and currently working on. Highly recommend this course if your looking for value, well kept, and only an hour outside of Charlottesville. Only downside was no beer cart or having the bar open during play. Vending machines available.
You will enjoy!
Hard to believe that this is a public course. Staff really cares well for it's condition! Very enjoyable round.
Great Winter Conditions
Heritage Oaks used to be my home course before I moved to the big city (Richmond). But I still come back to visit and I’m always glad when I do.
Despite the wet and wintry weather of late, the course is playing surprisingly well. There are the usual soggy spots here and there but overall the course is very playable with good smooth greens and bunkers, and decent fairways and rough. You may struggle to find turf on some of the tee boxes but that’s understandable this time of year.
I’ve always enjoyed the challenging but inviting layout and relatively easy walkability of the course. Pace of play can vary depending on how busy it is (over 100 golfers played the day before in nicer weather conditions but I nearly had the course to myself this day). $20 to walk 18 isn’t too bad even in the offseason and the staff here makes it worth your while. I definitely recommend you stop in for a visit.
Nice course ,nice fairways and green receive very well!
Really nice golf course I really enjoy playing here, greens receive very well wich it makes it very easy to get spin control, neat and in good shape!
Favorite course in the area
Have played here numerous times when in the area and was absolutely blown away by the conditions of the course a few days after the area received over 6” of rain in two days! The rough was quite thick since they hadn’t been able to mow...but fairways and green were in great shape. This is a fairly short course and perfect for women...easily a walkable course as well. Layout is nerdy fair with a good mix of doglegs and short par 3s. Staff is extremely friendly especially the rangers! My only complaint is the price...very high (especially for a municipal course)...did find a coupon in a local golf guide that brought the price down.
In Great Shape Right Now
It was nice to come back to my old home course after moving away several months ago. I’m happy to report it’s in as good condition as I’ve ever seen it.
The fairways look great with the new two-stripe mow pattern and have filled in nicely. The greens have already fully recovered from aeration just a few weeks ago. The tee boxes are nice and soft and cut, the bunkers are generally well looked after if not immaculate.
This remains a great home course if you live close by, if you are visiting you won’t be disappointed with the playing conditions or overall value of the course. I’ll be coming back up in a few months to give it another go.
Happy Trails to a Good Home Course
After two years and over 40 rounds, I said "goodbye" to Heritage Oaks as my home course with a recent move to the Richmond area.
On the day I played my last* round the weather was perfect and the course was in great shape. Despite the dormant winter conditions, the greens were as fast and smooth as I've ever seen them, and even though there had been a lot of rain in the past week, nearly all of the course was dry. They've also taken steps to help alleviate some wetter spots while the traffic is slow.
The fact I have played over 40 different courses the past two years and still made time to play this course as often as I did is a testament to how enjoyable it is to play here. The layout--while not eye-popping--is dynamic enough to not get boring. I had multiple shots this last go-around from places on the course I had never hit to/from. There were new angles of approach and new shot variants to try to skirt a tree or a bunker or a creek (or all three, as was the case on the par-5 7th).
The staff is what I'll miss most about Heritage Oaks--I wish I could take them with me. I made some good friends there and encourage you to spends some time there and make friends with them too.
There's nothing quite like playing a home course for the last* time and to birdie the last hole sweetened the experience just a little more. In the end, if you're going to play one course in the Valley, make it Heritage Oaks!
*I'll drive the two hours back for tournaments, you can count on that.
Nice round
Enjoyed the course. It was super wet after a lot of rain and unfortunately that made it very difficult
. I'd love to play it when it's dry
Nice Track & Nice People
Very nice course. They had just aerated the greens, so they were a little bouncey but overall, the course was in great shape. I played with three members and they were welcoming and a lot of fun to play with. I will be going back!
My round
This course is one of my favorites to play in my area. It was a hot day, but the course was in excellent shape. Pace was a little slow but overall I enjoyed playing.
