White Columns Golf Club

Have been a member here for two years and am now leaving. I have been a golf member at multiple clubs around the country and this is the first one that feels like a semi private club with the monthly dues of a premier club. Feels kind of like a timeshare when joining.... some get in for no down payment while some pay 20k. Some people pay half dues some pay the $740. (Get my drift) Why? When you can just buy a first tee card for $100 and play all of the clubs for cart fee twice and then just buy another card. Hence the tee book filled with non members and a very transient atmosphere. Oh and they close the course down on some Fridays to host outside events. Save your money and join else where.

We hosted a Nextgengolf City Tour event with White Columns and it surpassed our expectations like previous years. The staff was very helpful and made the tournament run very smoothly. We look forward to coming back for more events next year and on.

I might shortly be moving into the adjacent sub-division and wanted to play the course to determine whether or not I would like to join White Columns as a member.
The course is very nice and was in pretty good condition the day we played it - grass on the fairways was a little long, as was that on the greens, but that was probably to ensure they are not unduly damaged in the blistering heat we have had recently.
Assuming the club is foolish enough to offer me a membership, I will join. If I'm totally honest though, I feel the price (currently @ just over $700/mo) is a little on the steep side for a course that doesn't quite hit the same level as some of the similarly priced "elite courses" in the area - I'm thinking of St. Ives, The Georgia Club, The Standard Club, etc. However, the membership package includes the freedom for unlimited play at the nearby Manor and Atlanta National courses. It was this and the abundance of family events that take place at the club which has pushed me over the top!

White Columns is part of the Clubcorp family but is considered a “premier” course. This means it’s a little more private and is not associated with a second “home” course for members. But anyways, aside from the recently punched but recovering greens, the course is in fantastic shape. I’ve never seen Bermuda grass that has come in this early in the spring. No other course in the Atlanta area (that I’m aware of) looks like this the first week of April.

The course layout is a lot of fun but gets tight in some areas. Being able to play target golf is crucial to scoring low here. The greens aren’t too undulating so if you can find fairways, you can give yourself lots of birdie chances. The best hole on the course is the downhill 17 over a small creek. It’s a huge drop off from the tee box and is terribly difficult to find the right distance.

I have played White Columns twice over a span of 15 years. The practice facilities and other off course amenities have vastly improved, but the golf course has seen a significant decline. 15 years ago, I would have rated White Columns as the best course that I had ever played. This is still a nice layout, but is simply not maintained to a high standard. The fairways were hard and thin. Greens were slow, but otherwise ok. General upkeep was only slightly above average. As a somewhat upper tier private club, the golf course simply does not meet the expected standard.
Note: I rate golf courses on an absolute scale using the following guidelines:
5 stars - Top tier golf course, all amenities, outstanding service/management and excellent course maintenance.
4 stars - Good to great course layout, complete club experience (full practice facilities, locker room, grill, etc...), efficient service/management, very good course maintenance.
3 stars - Good course layout, average practice facilities, average service/management, average course maintenance. No pace of play problems.
2 stars - Nothing special, but an enjoyable course to play. Only minor issues with pace of play.
1 star - Not worth the effort or serious pace of play issues. I take pace of play very seriously.
A 5-hour round is a minimum two-star reduction.

When I called the course I had a little trouble communicating my situation on playing the course, so I was a little apprehensive when I showed up. I was treated well by the staff, and really enjoyed this course. There is all the course you could want here and conditions were good. Beautiful place, nice contour, a variety of holes, and a true country club environment. Had a great time, and recommend this course.

I played here with my friend who is a member here and really enjoyed the course. Any club Corp course is nice but this is one of the top. The green roll Frye fairways are lush and food is good. I got a sandwich and thought it was good. Holes 8,9,15,17,18 where my favorite 18 was great because you have to hit 3 or 5 wood of the tee. 17 is a great par three. 10 and 11 where preatty enjoyable. The new design in clubhouse made and dining extra fancy. Also this was my birthday so I got my favorite food wings and fries that where great! Overall this was a great birthday and extremely great Club corb course.

Played in late February so the grass is dormant but there course was in excellent condition. I will be playing again as I am a ClubCorp member and I can play it at a great rate.

Played a mid morning tee time as a guest of a polo cc member on the clubcorp recip offer. $85. A little disappointed with the condition of the fairways for the price. Really expected this private club to be very well kept but there were some bald patches on most of the fairways (sometimes severe) and green aprons. Pace was good. Course was reasonably busy but we got round in 4 hours. Best part of the course for me was the layout and greens. Holes roll up and down with slight dog legs usually ending with a raised green. Greens were in great condition. Good speed, not too firm and have challenging undulations. Overall would recommend but I do expect more of a polished course for the money. Hope they put some work into the fairways. Oh, and the club house is being renovated resulting in bar being a tent and drinking scotch out of a styrofoam cup. Sacrilege!
