Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Nice course but some of the staff are no bueno
Called to ask for a tee time and the guy had a horrible attitude and I was mid question and he said “thank you” and hung up on me. Other than the couple of the people that work at the course it’s nice
Meeting other golfers
Always a positive experience playing with other golfers here. I love to golf and it is nice to meet others who are friendly and fun to golf with
Fast Pace
Course was ok. Pace of play was fast prob bc it was so hot. Range was closed, which isn’t a big deal but would of been nice to get an email, text, or smoke signal. Arrived early to get in a few warm swings but wasn’t able too. Amenities weren’t poor just the communication of them being unavailable. It’s the closest course so of course I’ll be back hundreds more times.
Great Value
Really enjoyed the course. Our pace of play was under 4 hours
Better than last summer
The course has made a decent comeback from previous summers of dried out greens. They are cut tall so the ball doesn’t roll very well and the lines don’t break as much as you think while putting. Left a lot of putts short since it feels unusual to push through the ball that much. The trade off is the ball bites on approach if you can fly it up. Overall decent conditions for this time of year on a course that see’s a ton of traffic. Only complaint is they still are not putting out water jugs on the course, which feels criminal.
Solid Muni
Just moved to the area and live near Jimmy Clay. I really enjoyed the layout. Conditions were fair but not terrible. The greens were shag carpeting but hopefully they will get them shaved down. Overall, good bang for your buck.
Decent Muni
Good course for the money but the greens need some TLC. Lots of rough patches causing putts to jump around . It will come back around in good shape once the patches are fixed
Poor greens
Overall jimmy clay is a phenomenal layout and is quite fun to play. However, the condition of the greens are poor to say the least. Most every green has sandy areas and bumps everywhere. Even with a good approach youll be lucky to have an unobstructed and “clean” path to the hole. Does eventuality get frustrating when you have good looks at par or birdie and a bump destroys the speed or line of your putt a quarter way through. Again, jimmy clay is a very fun course however it fails to compete even with its sister course Roy Kiser because of the greens. Hopefully the greens improve and honestly ill probably still play here sometimes if im looking for something cheaper. If youre not opposed to spending an extra $20 then maybe play somewhere else.
Really Gone Downhill
With the number of players these two courses handle daily, the city of Austin could turn it into a golf Mecca. It’s time the parks department put some money into these two courses and improved the playing conditions. COME ON ATX!
Greens are sand
Greens are completely gone, putting in my backyard would be better than those greens. Be warned.
Greens Are In Bad Shape
The greens are as bad as I have seen them in a long time. Last year was an excuse - the February freeze. There’s no reason they should be this bad now.
In the condition the green are fees should be lowered.
Worst shape the greens have been in years
Easily the worst shape I’ve seen the greens at Jimmy Clay in ten years playing there consistently. Bumpy, sandy, and a lot of places just no grass. Your ball is going over the river and through the woods on any putt longer than three feet. They were in decent shape just a few weeks ago, but were in such bad shape when I played on 4/1 that it seemed like maintenance just completely stopped watering them. To see the greens like this on the same day the city raised the rates for the range grinder was very disappointing. We’re paying more money for a much worse experience.
Hope greens get better soon
Nice course but this time around greens were very rough really asking for some care. Nice course, nice people good potential.
