Jimmy Clay Golf Course
About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

Greens are sand
Greens are completely gone, putting in my backyard would be better than those greens. Be warned.
Greens Are In Bad Shape
The greens are as bad as I have seen them in a long time. Last year was an excuse - the February freeze. There’s no reason they should be this bad now.
In the condition the green are fees should be lowered.
Worst shape the greens have been in years
Easily the worst shape I’ve seen the greens at Jimmy Clay in ten years playing there consistently. Bumpy, sandy, and a lot of places just no grass. Your ball is going over the river and through the woods on any putt longer than three feet. They were in decent shape just a few weeks ago, but were in such bad shape when I played on 4/1 that it seemed like maintenance just completely stopped watering them. To see the greens like this on the same day the city raised the rates for the range grinder was very disappointing. We’re paying more money for a much worse experience.
Hope greens get better soon
Nice course but this time around greens were very rough really asking for some care. Nice course, nice people good potential.
A little TLC needed
I have played Clay in the past and enjoyed the course. I was disappointed in the condition of the course. Many of the greens had sections that weren't really playable. The fairways might come back if watered well, but it was disappointing to hit a fairway and end up with a hard, unplayable lie. I would recommend this to a friend, but only with a Hot Deal kind of green fee.
Greens are terrible!
The conditions of all the greens are terrible. Bumpy and missing grass.
Greens
The course is a good value for price but greens are in really bad shape.
Good ol Jimmy
I played this course in 34 degree weather with a couple guys. We had a good time. Looks like the greens had been sanded a week earlier but all was good.
This can be a challenging, fun course. I finally figured out how to play hole 18. I smoked a long drive with a slight cut and ended up 114 yds out. I’ve always payed up with 3 wood but you have a bigger opening than you think. Hit driver.
Go play Jimmy! Good food also
It’s Been A While….
I hadn’t played Jimmy Clay in at least ten years, and had completely forgotten how wacky the course layout was - well, wacky, but still pretty enjoyable. The greens were somewhat disappointing, too, but it appeared that they had recently been aerated or gone through some other maintenance procedure. Other than that, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf for a day in mid-February, so I can’t really complain too much.
Greens Are Lost
You might as well be putting on a dirt field. Price for a round is overpriced based on the condition of the greens,
Nice experience
I enjoy playing this course. The layout is interesting with a mix of challenging holes and holes with an opportunity to score. The course conditions are good given the dry Texas weather and December effects on grass. I think there are a couple of tee boxes that need attention (mostly leveling), but the fairways are pretty good. I don't expect red carpet treatment at a city course, but I've yet to interact with a staff member who was friendly. Pace of play was good this time, but a course marshal who actually moves play along would be appreciated.
