Morris Williams Golf Course
About
The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Good muni
As with other Austin municipal courses Morris Williams is something local golfers should be proud to call their own. Pace of play was not bad considering it was a late February 64^ Saturday. It’s very well maintained.
Great course, but extremely slow play. Round took nearly 6 hours to complete
Great course for learning
Having just taken up golf this year, I have enjoyed each and every visit to Morris Williams. Play can be slowed because of other players learning the rules and the game. Greens are in great shape and the course itself is well maintained and staffed with helpful and knowledgeable folks.
Off early to golf
Lots of people playing today. Pace was slow but course was ok for the price.
Love Austin Munies
Love playing Austin city courses. Plenty of challenges, history & quality.
Love The Course
Great layout, great conditions, great clubhouse staff.
Great Value
Recently played Morris Williams and it was a verity pleasant surprise. I have a soft spot for a great muni and this one didn’t disappoint. Green fee was less than $30 to walk 18 and our 4 some made it around in just under 4 hours after only occasionally waiting on an early Sunday morning. The layout had some nice variety in topography the course conditioning was as expected for November. Some great views of downtown highlight the course on the front 9. Staff was friendly and you can sense the passion from players that frequent the facilities. One of the very best values in all of Austin for the price, location and solid course.
Course in good shape, pace of play was horrible
Course in good shape for this time of year but the pace was brutal. Played the first 2 holes in 40 minutes, no Marshall going around on the course to control pace, had to call in to complain, get a Marshall to come out which the pace got somewhat better but still every tee box, the group in front of us was always waiting to hit on the their tee shot.
Won't be playing hear again due to pace of play. Basically I paid to hang out in a golf cart all day instead of playing a round a golf.
Great course
As usual. Fantastic course. Pace of play was a little slow. But it was a Sunday in the low 80’s. It was a golfers perfect day.
Will be back again
Fun course in great shape
I think most players would be surprised to find out this is a municipal course if they played it blind. They keep the greens and fairways in great shape. Course layout is fun especially the middle section of the back nine.
Mo-Town is back!
What a great place to play. I have NEVER seen the course at this level of overall condition. It is amazing what water, fertilizer and proper maintenance will do for a golf course in Texas in the Summer. Kudos to the entire staff, especially the course superintendent. Keep it up!
Greens are back in great shape!
First time to Mo Willy all summer and pleased to report that after some rough patches this year the greens are in EXCELLENT shape! Plenty of turf out there and very few bare patches on the perimeter. Can’t ask for more. I was also surprised how lush the fairways were at this point of the summer. Usually they are baked out by now. Kudos to the crew!
I also couldn’t help but notice the big tree left of the 2nd fairway by the green is gone except for the stump. Definitely opens up the approach shot even though my ball landed literally next to the stump
Great Conditions, Good for All Levels
The greens were in solid condition for this time of year. Tee boxes were nice and fairways were not to big to provide some challenges.
They have a refreshments cart rolling around and water stations to stay hydrated in the heat. Love that.
Only complaint was that the group behind us played up on us which was not cool, but can't blame the course for that.
Best value in atx that I've found to date!
Greens
We’re punched and sanded on Tuesday I would wait a couple of weeks before playing
