Morris Williams Golf Course
About
The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Great Experience
The course is in excellent shape. Fairways & greens were very good. A few unexpected small muddy spots. Impressive conditions for the long hot no-rain summer in central TX.
Pretty solid course
The course conditions are pretty good. Greens roll a little slow in my opinion, and if people fixed their divots, it would go a long way in keeping the course in great condition. Not too challenging since there aren’t many bunkers or water hazards. Most challenging part is hitting on slopes if you don’t use the right clubs. Fairways overall is pretty wide. I do the worst on hole 9. But overall its an enjoyable course.
This course is more concerned with making money
The fact that they are somehow not able to maintain jugs of water through out the course is pathetic and dangerous. Asking people to pay $50 to potentially get heatstroke in 100+ temperatures is unacceptable. I heard different reasons from clubhouse staff and concession staff. A supposed understaffing was cited but I saw at least 2 different Marshall’s on the course looking for outside booze. They could easily be replacing the water jugs, in addition to protecting their business. It’s negligent at best and purely greedy at worst. Riverside is staffed by a handful of people and can somehow manage the strain of filling water jugs. I’ve played here for over a decade and have always loved it. Like the layout and the conditions have improved over time but I will not return. The focus is exclusively on profit now and customer safety and service are a distant second or third.
The course is decent
The course is decent, greens were in good shape. Lady at the front desk said there was “water on the course, so you are not allowed to bring bottled water” when in fact there wasn’t water on the course. Honestly this lady is a complete b**** all the time. She should find another job cause customer service isnt her forte
Beautiful course
Came down from DFW to play some new courses. This was the nicest we played in Travis county.
Green!
When most other courses are brown and crispy, this one is plush and green. Beautiful course.
Fair to Midland
Best part about playing here is they allow you to bring a cooler
Fun course
It’s close to downtown and fun layout .
However all of city course has NO DRINKING WATER ! over 100 degrees hot summer .
Or no ice box . Blame it on Covid is no llonger make sense.
