The Beez. What a player. Photo submitted by Opiebowen on 07/15/2013
fun to play
sandtraps could use a bit more sand other than that course is great shape
The course provided lots of challenges
From the tee box if you are not a straight shooter put your driver down or you will be in the wood a lot. Stay in the fairway and avoid taking a nature walk through the woods. This course is very hilly and has lots of bunkers guarding the greens. We had great fun.
Good layout and a sporty course in very good shape. My biggest complaint was that there are hardly any yardage markers.
I liked the course and will go back. Don't go there without a range finder! The course is very poorly marked. You have no clue where the yardage markers are. Also sometimes a little confusing as to which tee your on, also poorly marked. No rangers. All and all it was a good experience and a fun track to play. The dinning room and bar looked good but is not open for dinner on Sun,Mon, and Tues.
Nice greens,Goodvarietyof doglegs
Very nice greens fast. Variety of dog legs ,quite a challenge. The par 3's were something a lot of hills to play with. Nice track.
Challenging track, nice greens, recommended
First time playing and was glad I did. The greens on this course are challenging: on the small side, quick, and plenty of break. You have to be precise on tee shots to get GIRs. Pace of play was great (twosome) on a weekend. Pro Shop staff was friendly. I recommend this course.
Super fast greens....
We booked a hot deal and when we arrived, the parking lot was full. The course was having a tournament. When arriving at the club house the golf pro said it was OK... the course was closed to the general public but would start us on an open hole that no one in the tournament was on. We eventually caught up to the tournament group but it was after 12 holes... I am glad we still golfed. This is an AWESOME course... just keep your drives in the fairway. Greens are fast but easy to read. A BEAUTIFUL course. I am glad we played.
Nice course east of Atlanta
Have played this course twice now and had a good experience both times. Greens seemed much faster the second time around. I will say that the staff could be a bit friendlier. Definitely one of the better courses in the area, aside from Cherokee Run.
great condition
First time back since it was re-opened. I've always liked this course and the new greens are awesome! It was pretty busy being a Saturday, but most good courses are. Definitely coming back.
Great course that is well maintained
Great experience! Only complaint is that the holes aren't easily marked, and sometimes were difficult to locate. Otherwise this is a great course to play. The fairways were in excellent condition.
Very fast greens and well maintained. You will make errors without some course knowledge.
The course was well maintained. Maybe the fastest greens I have played on in years. None of the holes are marked on the tee box as to which hole you are on. This confused me a couple of times. On hole 8 without knowing the hole you cannot intelligently play it. You look down the fairway and see water a ways out there, but not the rest of the hole. The card doesn't help much there either. When I signed up on Golf Now, I took the last spot for the tee time. I was traveling so I had to go alone, but by signing up this way I thought I would be playing with people who might have some course knowledge. When I got there, the course told me that I had to play alone because the other people didn't want anyone to join them. So, I had to play behind a foursome and wait forever on every hole.
Great course! Even better GolfNow price!!!
Course was in great shape and they were in the process of upgrading it. Can't wait to play it again!
Great Use of Hazards
I have played this course a couple times and I have appreciated the state of the greens and use of water hazards on the different holes.
Great par 3s
Good course layout.Water on several greens. You had to place shots on some greens to avoid sand traps.
Definitely a must play again
Course in great condition, not quite "pristine" for some fairways, and a few blemishes on the greens, but still very scenic and with very fast and challenging greens. Great staff, and great owners (thanks for the drinks, by the way!). One drawback: there is really no way to walk this course, the distance and elevation changes between the holes are very discouraging, and one feels like one is visiting the neighborhood instead of just going from green to tee. Still, a great experience!
This course has great hole positioning
This was my first time playing at this course. It was a very good challenge. We really liked the lay-out of the greens with the bungers and water.
Marshall Issues
This is a fun course and was in great condition, but our overall experience was ruined by the Golf Course staff. There was literally a marshall riding up on you every hole. We were harrased about getting a Hot Dog at the turn even though the next group had not even started the Par 5 9th. They also told us on five different occasions to speed up when the group behind was over 2 holes behind and we were under a 4 hr pace. We are not slow, which made it even more frustrating, who knows what they're trying to accomplish, but it will backfire. I'll stick with Cherokee Run next time I'm in the area.
Great greens, smooth and fast.
The rough is a little high. The greens were smooth and fast, very few divot marks.
Seriously? Yes, seriously...
Ok. I play a lot of golf, and I mean a lot of golf - 5 times per week, and that's minimum. I also play at a very high level, with a +2.7 handicap. For those that don't know what a "+" is, the + preceding my handicap means below scratch... Therefore, you should really pay attention to my review (tee hee). :-)
Ashton Hills is the best public golf course in Atlanta period. Every tee box is elevated (check), every green is pristine (check), every hole forces a decision off the tee (check).
The greens are mini-verde -or- champions bermuda. They are firm and mildly fast. Probably rolling a 10 on the stimp the day I played. So, not overly fast by tour standards, but the best part is that every putt rolled true. What does that mean? The putt would track like a ball on a billiard table.
I played from the tippy tips which were 6800yds and played at a slope of 144. I don't agree with that slope. Felt more like a 130. There weren't that many challenging holes. But, I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever round there with a one over 73 that I went and did a replay for a cart fee of $17, and after having seen the course in the morning, I fired a six under 66. Nearly had two hole in ones, and had one eagle.
Putting surfaces like this make the game so enjoyable, but it spoils you...
The only downside? It was 120 miles round trip for me... I played there only because a friend told me "...you won't be able to hold your shot on the green." That was a challenge... The greens aren't quite like that, but they are seriously as good as any tour stop, with exception they're not rolling 12 on the stimp.
Looking for a very enjoyable place to play? Go here...
Couse would play faster if fairway stakes were installed for yardage
The course was well maintained and was a tremendous value. The course was worth more than I payed to play for sure.
