The Beez. What a player. Photo submitted by Opiebowen on 07/15/2013
Great Layout
I love this course. If you want to putt fast true greens this is a course for that. Tough layout always a challenge. Well maintained.
A beautiful course with great hazards, a must play!
I really enjoyed my round of 18 holes at Ashton Hills. The people were very friendly, and the course was in great shape. Lots of hazards, long open fairways, and large greens. The tunnels on the cart path were cool too! Also, ice cold water was available at numerous holes!!!
Needs attention
I was late as my GPS brought me elsewhere so I offered to only play 9 holes. There was nobody out on the course so a gesture to play all 18 would have been appropriate. Gentleman was nice, though.
Greens are a mess but fairways were in great shape. You'll have to rely on your scorecard for markage/hole info as there were no hole markers at all. Course looks like it is in constant state of repair.
A good test of golf that requires accurate shot making and strong legs.
The Ashton Hills Golf Club is a good test of golf that requires accurate shot making and strong legs. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The practice range, putting green, and other facilities were all first rate. The course layout requires that you keep the ball in the fairway as trouble lurks in water hazards and the tree lined fairways. Anyone playing the course for the first time should be aware that there are hazards protecting some greens and some hazards are found in the middle of the fairways. The par five eighteenth hole has a fairway hazard that is ready to gobble up any second shot that does not carry the required distance. The course has sloped fairways that require accurate tee shots. Determining where to best park your golf cart can assist the Ashton Hills novice from climbing steep banks to get to and from the greens. All in all I would say that Ashton Hills is a good value for a first-rate golf course that provides a good test of golf.
A real hard one.
Our round was part mud bog because of all the recent rain. The rough was kept to a U.S. Open standard. The greens were like putting on a sheet of ice in a Canadian winter. I'm not a particularly good golfer and typically enjoy the company of a few good friends, but this was no fun. This course destoyed my golfing spirt. Godspeed to the future brave souls.
Pleasantly surprise to play a better than expected nice course!
This course was extremely refreshing to play. Not too short, not too long, and not too hard and somewhat challenging.
Drove from Atlanta and expected it to be a so so course. But once we (a 2some) arrived, we notice a course that was truly reflected of the impression we saw on the website. Well manicured greens and well maintained bunkers.
The only complaint we had were the lack of yardage markers. Especially 150 yard markers needed on the fairways. Other than that, the course deserves a 4 star rating.
Enjoyable Course
This course has a good variety of holes, the greens and tee boxes were in good condition. The two most impressive things to me were the condition of the course in very wet weather and the courtesy of other golfers on the course. Even in rain the greens and fairways did not accumulate water.
The course is quite challenging and a wonderful bargain!
The course was in pretty good condition, considering the huge amount of rain in the area the day before and within the past week. Fariways and rough were in good shape and challenging. Bermuda greens were fast and true. When we left the course, the parking lot was full for a member event of some sort
A Beast with Beauty
This was my first time playing at Ashton Hills. As a value driven player, I enjoyed the high level of course preparation that I'm not used to at most of the fully public courses. It certainly is beautiful. Generally, the only rough spots were those that were visibly under repair or had been repaired. However, one green had a sprinkler under repair where the technicians had left all of the parts and pieces strewn on the grass and all of the hole dirt laying in piles. The open hole with visible wiring was left unattended without markings or a barrier. My only other "complaint" would be with the elevated tees. You will be looking at a 6'-8' grass mound with a 30%+ grade (black, blue, and white) without any steps or ramp to assist in getting to the top of the tee. As a mature male in his mid-50's, I found my knees tortured with the various angles I had to bend them to surmount the tees. I'm sore today for sure. Another unusual feature of this course is how it's inter-weaved with the surrounded housing development. As one goes from hole to hole they'll cross roads, RR tracks, and all sorts of suburban trapping - sometimes in tunnels - but all of it spread widely apart. The break between holes will add an extra few minutes to any round. Overall, I like my round and will play Ashton Hills again soon.
Course needs attention after the heavy rain!
I've played AH several times before. It took a beating after the rain storms last week. Bunkers are waste lands, green are slow due to aeration marks and sand.
Great value
Staff very friendly. Course is in good shape and from all indications will continue to improve.
Hidden gem! Excellent conditions. Play it!
This course has really improved! Beautiful shape, fairways, greens, traps, etc. Rolling fairways and terraced greens are a challenge, Great vistas for a course in neighborhoods but houses are well set back. Great value for the money. Must use cart as many holes have long distance between greens and next tee box. Only issue as a first timer was hole markings. There are no signs at each tee area. Otherwise I will definitely go back soon and take friends. Also, friendly staff.
good challenging fair course
would recommend to anyone, nicest greens in east atl
Great Hot Deal Course
Played 9 holes starting at the 10th tee. Fairways were cut and clean with very few divots. The greens were not bad but there were two holes with some sand where the grass hasn't come completely in yet. This was the first time I've played this course and for the money I'd definitely play again.
course in real good shape
course in real good shape, areas actually marked as ground under repair, greens and fairways in real good shape. areas under and around trees cleared out able to find ball when out of the fairway. enjoyed playing the golf course new magament headed in right direction.
This course has great greens!
The greens roll true and quick. The bunkers have great sand, nice and fluffy, no hard compact sand. The course is in great shape and the old back nine which is now the front nine has had it's layout changed and us great!
The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was because of the five plus hour round. There is just no excuse on any course even with a tournament which they said they had earlier, to experience a three hour back nine. But, I would play it again in a heart beat!
Course is in good condition.
The first time I played it. The course is a good challenge for the amateur. The greens are faster than most. Fun place to play. I will be back.
Great layout, greens firm and rolling.
Good set of par 5's reachable in two well placed shots; definently risk reward holes.
Slopes on the greens made emphasis on shot placement. Course is not super long, but you cannot score without accuracy off the tee.
Greens still need work, but not bad overall.
Everything is green and looking great, but a few of the greens are still under maintenance and need a little work. Bunkers are nice, course is set up well and once the greens improve a little more this will be one of the nicer courses in the area.
Great course
Really enjoyed this course....will play it again. #3 par 3 is a very nice hole...#13 par 3 completely over water...got to trust your short game!!
