Definitely a must play again
Course in great condition, not quite "pristine" for some fairways, and a few blemishes on the greens, but still very scenic and with very fast and challenging greens. Great staff, and great owners (thanks for the drinks, by the way!). One drawback: there is really no way to walk this course, the distance and elevation changes between the holes are very discouraging, and one feels like one is visiting the neighborhood instead of just going from green to tee. Still, a great experience!
This course has great hole positioning
This was my first time playing at this course. It was a very good challenge. We really liked the lay-out of the greens with the bungers and water.
Marshall Issues
This is a fun course and was in great condition, but our overall experience was ruined by the Golf Course staff. There was literally a marshall riding up on you every hole. We were harrased about getting a Hot Dog at the turn even though the next group had not even started the Par 5 9th. They also told us on five different occasions to speed up when the group behind was over 2 holes behind and we were under a 4 hr pace. We are not slow, which made it even more frustrating, who knows what they're trying to accomplish, but it will backfire. I'll stick with Cherokee Run next time I'm in the area.
Great greens, smooth and fast.
The rough is a little high. The greens were smooth and fast, very few divot marks.
Seriously? Yes, seriously...
Ok. I play a lot of golf, and I mean a lot of golf - 5 times per week, and that's minimum. I also play at a very high level, with a +2.7 handicap. For those that don't know what a "+" is, the + preceding my handicap means below scratch... Therefore, you should really pay attention to my review (tee hee). :-)
Ashton Hills is the best public golf course in Atlanta period. Every tee box is elevated (check), every green is pristine (check), every hole forces a decision off the tee (check).
The greens are mini-verde -or- champions bermuda. They are firm and mildly fast. Probably rolling a 10 on the stimp the day I played. So, not overly fast by tour standards, but the best part is that every putt rolled true. What does that mean? The putt would track like a ball on a billiard table.
I played from the tippy tips which were 6800yds and played at a slope of 144. I don't agree with that slope. Felt more like a 130. There weren't that many challenging holes. But, I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever round there with a one over 73 that I went and did a replay for a cart fee of $17, and after having seen the course in the morning, I fired a six under 66. Nearly had two hole in ones, and had one eagle.
Putting surfaces like this make the game so enjoyable, but it spoils you...
The only downside? It was 120 miles round trip for me... I played there only because a friend told me "...you won't be able to hold your shot on the green." That was a challenge... The greens aren't quite like that, but they are seriously as good as any tour stop, with exception they're not rolling 12 on the stimp.
Looking for a very enjoyable place to play? Go here...
Couse would play faster if fairway stakes were installed for yardage
The course was well maintained and was a tremendous value. The course was worth more than I payed to play for sure.
Hot Deals are hard to beat
I like to golf. I do not like to overpay. I will play more and play at places I don't usually play because I can book a tee time at an affordable price that is fair and saving me money. This course is not ideal for a beginner learning how to play although playing challenging courses make you a better golfer. This course has very fast greens. Pin locations can be very demanding. Fairways are nice. You can put off the fringes. Fun course
Cart path very very rough
Was told by cart attendant upon arrival I could not put my own cooler on the cart with drinks inside and that there was a refreshment cart on the course making its rounds. On a hot day a drink is nice while playing. Not once did we see the refreshment cart during 18 holes. If they are not going to allow personal coolers so they can sell their own over priced drinks then make drinks available more often than the clubhouse at the turn.
Elevation changes create several poorly designed holes
Overall the course is challenging but a number of holes do not have enough room because of elevation changes and water. Better hit it straight on this course.
Straight forward course with playable rough and solid greens
I had a little trouble finding the course but the staff was friendly, the range had nice grass to hit on and the course was in decent shape. Not an overly long track but some pretty tricky holes. Good value I'll play there again.
Great place to play!
The staff was very accommodating when we showed up late for our tee time. The tees and greens were nicely maintained and even though it was a rainy day, we were under 90 degree rule instead of cart path only as the fairway have really good drainage. Will definitely be back!
The course was good shape and we did not have to wait the spacing was very good. I hope to pay Ashton Hills again int the future.

Great Improvement
The last time I played AHGC in June, the course had just got a bucket of water dumped on it. Wow, what an improvement they have made. Everything is practically pristine. The greens are absolutely at there BEST! Go play this course right now and tell me if its not the best value for your money!!
Great Layout
I love this course. If you want to putt fast true greens this is a course for that. Tough layout always a challenge. Well maintained.
A beautiful course with great hazards, a must play!
I really enjoyed my round of 18 holes at Ashton Hills. The people were very friendly, and the course was in great shape. Lots of hazards, long open fairways, and large greens. The tunnels on the cart path were cool too! Also, ice cold water was available at numerous holes!!!
Needs attention
I was late as my GPS brought me elsewhere so I offered to only play 9 holes. There was nobody out on the course so a gesture to play all 18 would have been appropriate. Gentleman was nice, though.
Greens are a mess but fairways were in great shape. You'll have to rely on your scorecard for markage/hole info as there were no hole markers at all. Course looks like it is in constant state of repair.
A good test of golf that requires accurate shot making and strong legs.
The Ashton Hills Golf Club is a good test of golf that requires accurate shot making and strong legs. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The practice range, putting green, and other facilities were all first rate. The course layout requires that you keep the ball in the fairway as trouble lurks in water hazards and the tree lined fairways. Anyone playing the course for the first time should be aware that there are hazards protecting some greens and some hazards are found in the middle of the fairways. The par five eighteenth hole has a fairway hazard that is ready to gobble up any second shot that does not carry the required distance. The course has sloped fairways that require accurate tee shots. Determining where to best park your golf cart can assist the Ashton Hills novice from climbing steep banks to get to and from the greens. All in all I would say that Ashton Hills is a good value for a first-rate golf course that provides a good test of golf.
A real hard one.
Our round was part mud bog because of all the recent rain. The rough was kept to a U.S. Open standard. The greens were like putting on a sheet of ice in a Canadian winter. I'm not a particularly good golfer and typically enjoy the company of a few good friends, but this was no fun. This course destoyed my golfing spirt. Godspeed to the future brave souls.
Pleasantly surprise to play a better than expected nice course!
This course was extremely refreshing to play. Not too short, not too long, and not too hard and somewhat challenging.
Drove from Atlanta and expected it to be a so so course. But once we (a 2some) arrived, we notice a course that was truly reflected of the impression we saw on the website. Well manicured greens and well maintained bunkers.
The only complaint we had were the lack of yardage markers. Especially 150 yard markers needed on the fairways. Other than that, the course deserves a 4 star rating.
Enjoyable Course
This course has a good variety of holes, the greens and tee boxes were in good condition. The two most impressive things to me were the condition of the course in very wet weather and the courtesy of other golfers on the course. Even in rain the greens and fairways did not accumulate water.
