Cherokee Run Golf Club
About
Nestled amongst the gently rolling hills of Rockdale County, Cherokee Run Golf Club lies within the Georgia International Horse Park. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay designed the course. Occupied for centuries by the Cherokee Indians, dozens of arrowheads were found in the Georgian red clay as the golf course was being built. The beautiful landscape is covered in granite outcroppings, native wetlands, and dense hardwood forests. The towering trees line the fairways and the steep inclines throughout the course provide fast, undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on six holes at Cherokee Run Golf Club and there are nearly 100 strategically placed bunkers. The course's signature hole is the par-3 third. This challenging hole demands an accurate tee shot in order to safely make it past the sand bunkers that border both sides of the fairway.

Cherokee Run is a treat to play!
Such a great course in every way. Beautiful, flawless greens, amazing staff and challenging golf. For me it is a 45+minute drive- but always worth it!
Hard fairways
Fairways are so hard this time around coz of no rains. Greens very fair and undulating as always.
Greens are very good but tee boxes are like concrete
We need some rain.. ball is running forever which makes the course harder
Greens are always amazingly good and fast
It was hard to put a tee in the ground on many holes..
Disappointed
Drove 1 1/2 hours to play here for Masters Week at Masters Week rates. Driving past 18th, I thought we were in for a treat. Maintenance team was fluffing new white sand in bunkers around 18th green. Clubhouse and grill were amazing. Practice area was great.
Teed off and by the second hole, knew we had been duped. Greens were fine. Tee boxes had no grass and were sandy. Bunkers were Georgia clay red with no sand. Didn’t expect fairways to have much grass w/o spring rain, so that was no surprise.
All in all, disappointed.
Disappointed
Last time I played this course was 25 years ago. Back then, it was one of the top public courses in the Greater Atlanta Area. The course layout is absolutely phenomenal. Beautifully designed holes, few if any structures on the course, so extremely natural and pleasing to the eye on an amazing piece of property. Staff is extremely friendly, welcoming and accommodating.
However, the tee boxes were consistently hardpan and many had almost no grass at all. The fairways were severely burned out and nearly impossible to make sound contact if you could hit them from the tee boxes. Runouts on tee shots were insane … 40-60+ yards, which sounds great for distance, but incredibly frustrating playing mostly sharp doglegs and placement shots. I understand from the staff that there’s been quite a dry season here, but it was obvious that they’re not watering the course at all, other than the putting surfaces. Greens were pretty good, true and receptive if you could hit them.
I was visiting with a friend from out of town and I recommended Cherokee Run from my past experience long ago. I was pretty embarrassed when we got there how bad the conditions were. Too bad and hopefully this is just a temporary issue, but from what I could see, it will take a ton of work to make this the course it used to be.
Difficulty
Really nice course, greens were in great shape. Definitely not a beginners course.
Cherokee Run great value
My first time playing and exceeded my expectations. It’s a challenging course layout undulating greens. Friendly staff made me feel welcome.
Stellar shape leading into Masters Week
Played The Run just prior to Masters Week. The course is in excellent shape. Greens medium-fast and true. No issues with thin patches or inconsistent rolls. Fresh sand in the bunkers, which is always a challenge here due to underlying granite.
It was a very dry winter here in GA. So the course played firm and the zoysia is still a little thin. The ball was really rolling out. This helped when we hit it straight, which was not always the case lol. Sometimes that got us in trouble.
As always the staff and facilities were fantastic. Cherokee Run is a players course. Great Arnold Palmer design and TOUGH. A true golf experience with no houses on site. You’re out there on your own. Tee times well spaced so pace was excellent. With the current twilight rates it’s one of the best deals in the Atlanta area. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Bring your A game.
Needs water
It’s been a while since I’ve played here. I don’t remember it having this many elevation changes. The fairways were hard as clay. I’m not sure where all the rain that has fallen is going. They started us on the back-nine for some reason. The pace was SLOW after the first 6 holes.
Great Greens
Very friendly staff, thanks. Bar Maid was really nice too us..
We were a little slow because we had some hi handicappers..
But e will be back
Bucket
All was good except the teeing areas. They had mats on all par 3’s due to lack of grass. May need to re sod. Otherwise excellent condition.
Great course
Fun course awesome greens the course is great for the price . Definitely worth the drive …
Great Course!
The course location is a little out there but definitely worth the drive. Great greens, fun layout and excellent value.
