Bear Creek Golf Club

About
Monroe's Bear Creek Golf Club is situated in the heart of Walton County. It's less than an hour from Atlanta, making it a conveniently close getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The course originally opened in 1990 but in 2008 it changed ownership and underwent a major renovation that elevated its conditions to rival that of any of the area's best golf courses. The bunkers were rebuilt and re-sanded and the fairways were re-conditioned. Bear Creek G.C. has always been known for its excellent greens, which have a reputation for being some of the state's finest putting surfaces. The layout measures 6,585 yards from the back tees, which may seem short but there are some ups and downs throughout that will make it feel much longer.

Nice course very slow
Course is under construction but still nice and playable. Took almost 6.5 hours to complete 18 holes due to the course Marshall allowing unscheduled personal tournaments and 6 players to be in a group ahead of us. Probably won’t play this again due to that as it have never take. 6.5 hours for 2 people to play 18.
Disappointed
I’ve played this course quite a few times over the last few years and while I’ve seen a lot of improvements over the last couple years, the efforts seemed to have stalled. Oddly, the greens were decent. The fairways are a little rough and the rough is just thin and tall. If you miss the fairway even by a little it’s 50/50 as to whether you’ll find your ball. Carts are old and in need of repair. Carts are too few for the number of tee times booked. We were told on hole 18 after teeing off at 7am that they were waiting on carts by the starter. This was about 11:05 and we were approaching the green. 4:05 for 18 holes is hardly slow considering they made us tee off in the dark as the sun was coming up. Probably our fault for booking the first tee time of the day. I hope this course improves. I do like the layout and I love how close to home it is but right now, it’s overpriced for what it is.
Back 9 trouble.
The front was ok. But the back was a different story, the holes didn't match the score card, and I think no.16 was close ,they weren't marked correctly. But nice greens and fair ways.
I was turned around
They said they had no openings and turned me around yet I got charged 180$
Just OK
Not the worst course, but certainly not great. The layout and paths are confusing. The greens upkeep was marginal, with several bald spots and damaged hole edges. Flags leaned because they didn’t exactly fit the cup. Cart quality was lacking. Staff was nice and helpful. Could be a good place to play a round with some TLC, but not a serious course right now. There were some signs that there was remodeling being done, but there were also signs that those efforts may have stalled. My round was still enjoyable, but price was a little high for the current quality. With other, better courses nearby, I would not recommend it at this time. However, I will visit again when/if remodel is completed.
Straight Mid
It is very tough to navigate this course if you’ve never played it before. Blind shots, poor signage (Horrible), no GPS, and horrific cart paths (roots, holes, uneven). Going to 15 there’s nothing telling you where to go, then when you get to the tee box the hole sign says 16 and is backwards. I thankfully ran into the greens keeper who showed me where to go.
This course has tons of potential but needs to tighten up on the little things.
Heavy Par 5’s
Nice course for the money. The paths in between holes a bit challenging. Solid green!
Has some problems
Cart paths are terrible. We played here because of Hot Deal. Have played here before and a few months ago it was so crowded and backed up we only played 9. There is No bathroom on the course. Only at clubhouse which is not convenient for women. After finishing 9 holes -at 6:20 pm-a few months ago I had to use the bathroom and the door was locked to clubhouse!!!! There were lots of golfer still playing and workers there. They would not let us in. Owner or manager showed up, went inside and then left again! Ugh ugh ugh! They refused to let us in .
Fantastic Course
Well kept and greens roll very pure. I enjoyed playing this challenging course!
Very nice value for a short track
The course was in reasonable shape for end of summer. Fairways were tight but still playable and the greens were great....no dead areas to speak of and fairly fast. There are a few challenging holes for those who are not familiar with the course. Blind tee shots with confined landing zones....drive up a little and have a look before you tee up if possible. And PLEASE do something better with #16. A normal tee box or two would be a much better option IMO.
Not so good
Rough extremely tall, at least 5”. We’re amateurs, not playing US open down here. Some greens need maintenance. Course layout is confusing.
I usually play here, neve this bad of course conditions.
Thick grass clippings everywhere
Greens with rough spots affecting ball roll
Cart paths are rough
Layout of course around the 15th confuses people, they often jump to the wrong hole next.
Tries to be great, comes out okay
The grass is cut but clippings are everywhere making it hard to find your ball. The cart paths remind me of Detroit roads in January. Potholes everywhere. They can clearly afford concrete since they use bags of it to block cart path only holes tee markers are inconsistent. Some holes only have one at each tee box, sometimes they're completely missing. It's not a bad course by any means but a bunch of small changes could make a big difference. There's only one trash can on each 9. There's no restrooms on the course. No ball washers. It can make a lot of small changes for a big improvement. But pace of play is a HUGE issue here. If a group has multiple open holes ahead of them, it shouldn't be everyone else's job to go around them, and Marshalls do nothing about it. When we asked what the hold up was, they simply said "it's Saturday" when in reality one group killed pace for everyone
A Day of Highs and Lows at Bear Creek Golf Club
My recent round at Bear Creek Golf Club was a rollercoaster of an experience, starting with a bit of a rocky beginning but ending on a high note that left me dreaming of my next tee time.
The day started off on the wrong foot when we arrived to find the course running about 30 minutes behind schedule due to a shortage of golf carts. To kill some time, we headed to the driving range. I was pleasantly surprised to be given a free bucket of balls, a kind gesture I'm sure was from the course manager. However, my spirits were once again deflated when I saw a sign stating that drivers were not allowed on the range.
Despite the initial wait, the starter was an absolute gem. Considering he had four groups backed up and eager to get on the course, he handled the situation with remarkable friendliness and professionalism. His calm demeanor was a great way to start the actual round.
As soon as we stepped onto the course, all the early frustrations melted away. This is truly a course of dreams. The tee boxes were meticulously taken care of, and the fairways were in immaculate, Augusta-like condition. I fell completely in love with the course. The layout is delightful and challenging, with tough greens that demand your full attention. The greens themselves are full of undulations and the pin placements are fantastic, keeping you on your toes with every putt.
A word of warning: bring extra balls! The rough here is tall and thick, and it will eat your balls up if you're not careful. Staying on the fairways is a must if you want to keep your score in check.
Overall, what more could you ask for? It's no wonder the course was backed up—it's tough and amazing. The course is so good that I'll be coming back, even though it's an hour away.
What hole am I on?
The course layout makes no since after hole 12. The scorecard doesn’t even match the layout. #17 par 3 is 77yrds with concrete tee box. Course fees are high enough the scorecards should be correct. Do not recommend
