About
The public 18-hole layout, formerly known as the Austin Country Club, was designed by renowned architects, J. Press and Perry Maxwell. It served as teaching grounds for Harvey Penick, as well as Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw.
Riverside Golf Course challenges and delights players of all skill levels with its mature trees and scenic water hazards. Its convenient location, five minutes from downtown Austin and 10 minutes from the airport, makes it a serene escape without having to leave the city.
Getting there : From Austin, take IH-35 south to Riverside Drive. Go east on Riverside Drive 2.2 miles to Grove Blvd. and turn left. The course entrance is to the left before the community college.

Fun Course
Fun Course, decent price. Lots of fun holes here. Not much in terms of extras. Clubhouse is still shut down, no driving range but a nice putting/chipping green.

Great bones, worth the money
Course is in decent shape save for the excess water from recent rainstorms that put a lot of flooding in some fairways and traps. The holes are straightforward but challenging, especially with the beautiful old trees throughout the course. Definitely recommend.

A Good Time!
Played with a foursome at 9am on a Tuesday and finished in 3:45. This is unheard of for a public course in Austin on Spring Break.
The course itself is really enjoyable. Mostly open teeshots allow for inconsistent golfers like us to slice and hook 'em all over the place and still find your ball.
Greens were in great shape and rolling very true. Bunkers were also is good shape (and there are several!).
Only complaints are the odd location behind an ACC campus, the current rr situation (port-o-potties) and the lack of a driving range. They offer a hitting net before the first tee which is appreciated but not quite the same.
Also the proshop was completely closed, but the gentleman working was responsive and happy to get anything for us.
Overall very enjoyable 18 holes of golf right in the heart of Austin.

Pace of play was good. Fairways could use some love. Greens and bunkers were decent . Overall not too bad. Restrooms were not open inside. Had to use porta-potties outside. Nuff said.

Casual, fun round of golf
Despite perfect weather and a Sunday morning, the pace of play was just right. We neither waited nor were pushed. The course is in pretty good condition, but I'd love to see the tee boxes more level. Many are crowned and feel awkward. Overall, Riverside is becoming one of my favorite courses in the Austin area because it's in good shape, not expensive, and has a casual feel about the place.

Historic Course Worth the Play
I enjoyed the history of the course. Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite cut their teeth under the tutelage of Harvey Penick who lived off the 5th hole of the course. Conditions were wet and brown from the winter season. Liked the layout and would enjoy another bite at the apple in the summer months when greened up and grown in. Enjoyed my day and the shop was accomodating to us as we arrived a little late for our time but they squeezed us out and we were able to play and still enjoy our day in the city. The pace of play was good and price was reasonable. Still were checking in outside and clubhouse was off limits. They did offer a beverage cart service with some sandwiches and light snacks which came in handy.

Riverside
Nice layout, played early morning so pace was good. Fairways in decent shape but greens were quite bad. Rarely had a clean putting surface so rolls were very inconsistent. Perhaps had something to do with time of year but not entirely. Also, tee boxes were sometimes not very level which was disappointing.

Layout good, greens OK, fairways not great
The fairways had very little grass and thus hard as a dried out pancake. To be fair, what grass there is now is dormant but most courses have some to hit off of. I liked the overall layout and would come back in Spring to see the overall conditions. Greens ranged from fair to good condition.

Greens are rough
Course was very compact. Good thing is your ball rolls forever, bad thing is your ball rolls forever. Great for fairway but the ball would not stick on the greens. Hopefully they will make improvements to greens during the spring.
