Avery Ranch Golf Club

Clearly, they book too many people to play on a Saturday. The first clue was when I checked in and the cashier said there were no golf carts available and I should come back 15 minutes before my tee time. Then, I got to the driving range and every spot was occupied.

When our tee time came, the group in front of us was still on the tee. We waited on nearly shot which resulted in a 5 hour round. The group in front of us was waiting a lot, so it wasn’t just one slow group.

The greens and fairways and bunkers were in good shape, but the tee boxes were really beaten up.

Overall, the perfect weather of one of the first real fall days in Texas made for a nice round, but the slow pace was a black eye. I won’t be going back to Avery any time soon.

I visited from Dallas area on my vacation from work and this was a great course, great experience and the best to end a 6 day 6 round vacation.

I felt like I was in another country only traveling 3.5 hours by car.

I have already recruited my foursome for us to take a buddy trip to play Avery Ranch.

I have family in Round Rock and will be playing this course everytime I visit.

I am a firm believer that the better the golf course is, the more consistent the pace of play should be. There is a sign at the first tee box that states "Pace of play is 4 hours". My round took 5 hours and 29 minutes, not 4 hours. I saw a marshal driving around the course, I don't know if he really tried to push the pace of play at all. My group had to wait about 5 minutes per hole to hit, exactly equalling about 1 hour and 30 minutes of delay. I am about to become a member of this course and if it stays like this, I will only be able to play during the week to avoid the traffic. I know that more people are playing golf now since the pandemic began, but it should not be an excuse to play slow round, frustrating rounds at a premium golf course.

It's a pretty good course. The overall condition is good and maintained well. Will go again while it's only 10 minutes away.

Course is in OK shape. Greens are rough. Pace of play is brutal. No marshals, no one to speed things up. HORRIBLE

All tee boxes and all greens were in tiptop shape. Fairways were in good condition. The just laid the rye grass seed around and on the greens so that was a minor issue. Early on in the round several of those greens were drenched in water. So that can be a challenge around the greens for chipping and putting. But otherwise in excellent condition.

Particularly the teenagers who think they can run the place. Drive the carts like go carts and play 7 to a group.

Amazing staff, beautiful course, well kept facilities and club house!

Great condition. Not one boring or contrived hole. Love the long par 3’s. Back nine has three par 3’s, three par 4’s and three par 5’s (#14 and #15 are back to back in opposite directions). Fun course, flows perfectly with the hill country landscape.

We arrived at the at the 6th tee box on a 5 hour pace, was talk by the ranger who was sitting there, he said we were 1 1/2 holes behind the group in from of us, when in fact we had been waiting on every tee box. When I said “that’s impossible” he stumbled to say we were on a 5 hour pace. When I checked in they had 1 cart available for our tee time, so it makes sense the course was packed and playing slow. The ranger was sitting there telling every group that came through they were way behind the group in front of them instead of addressing the actual problem. Clubhouse staff was friendly, Course is in good shape. Just a negative experience with a ranger who was clueless trying to scare people into playing fast.

5 1/2 hour round after waiting 15 minutes after tee time to hit first shot The greens are full of unrepaired ball marks and no sanded divots in the fairways. Marshals did nothing to speed up pace of play. The course used to be fun to play but now it's a grind, owner has over sold memberships and keeps tee times too close together.

The course layout is challenging from the back tees and fun to play from the forward tees. Greens were in excellent shape and rolled well. If you like fast greens, this is your place. Quite a few elevation changes will keep you second guessing your club choice. Super friendly staff and I frequently saw the cart girl during my round. Bring a wet towel for you balls though, since I don't remember seeing many ball washers (they did have water jugs on intermittent holes). This course is located in a great, scenic community. I highly recommend it.
