Avery Ranch Golf Club
About
Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.
The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.
No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.
Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Pricey Venue Skimps on Value Added Items
Recently had a friend in from Dallas and decided to treat him to a nice daily fees course, one of the best of its kind in the Austin area. Or so I thought.
Didn’t mind the pricey round so much but the basket of range balls…was like $16 and these balls…half were unhittable. They appeared to be 3-4 years old. They’re crummy for a joint that fetches nearly $70 a round and $16 a bucket, to hit balls I literally wouldn’t hit with my driver for fear they’d damage the face. And the range is like 100 yards from the pro shop so buy your balls when you’re inside. Then the balls are embarrassing. Seriously????? Had to wait 10 minutes in the line in the shop to get balls after just being in there. And mats are fine but these are….worn out completely. And the course was well maintained but the traps were slightly wet from a rain the day before but mainly they’re just mud, there’s. no sand in them. IDK how you can reconcile that price for that kind of experience. I asked the guest services guy about the balls and he said “they get stolen a lot so the owners won’t get new ones”. What? That’s an administrative and staff issue not my problem. The balls are laughable. Then it was a 5 hour round with ample beverage cart services but no marshals in sight to keep play moving. It’s just not worth it. If you’re going to just provide muny services then charge $30 for it. TBH that’s about what it’s worth and you can hide from it. Get a range attendant and balls, start acting like you care. Let me know when you do, otherwise we won’t be back.
Mixed Review
I like the course and think it is a nice course, well maintained, and challenging but fair. For the first five holes, I would have given 4 or 5 stars, since pace of play was fine and on pace for sub 4 hour rounds. Then we basically played at a 5 hour pace from #6 on, waiting on every hole. We were a foursome so not like we were rushing.
The other big negative is the number of holes roped off so you could not drive the cart on them. It was not because they were wet, which I would have understood.
I usually do walk a lot even with a cart, but had some back issues and all the excessive walking was bothersome.
I think I will check next time what holes are roped off and what tee time intervals are before playing again.
I they allowed enough time between groups and didn't rope off so many holes, I would recommend, but based on yesterday, I would not.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!
Course is in great condition.
They do a great job keeping this course in great condition. Pace of play can be a bit slow at times....we were able to start off a bit early but then on the second tee we were already backed up and it ended up being that way the rest of the round. It was a perfect weather day and the course is always a bit challenging for me on a few holes but it's a beautiful course and love playing here.

terrible pace of play and even worse staff
took us 5 hours plus on a Wednesday and barely saw beverage cart. Management treats customers awful on top of it
Horrible management and slow pace of play
This place is probably the worst managed course I have ever seen and the staff is one of the most hostile. I would stay far away from this place unless you want to waste a golf round.

5 hour round
Clearly, they book too many people to play on a Saturday. The first clue was when I checked in and the cashier said there were no golf carts available and I should come back 15 minutes before my tee time. Then, I got to the driving range and every spot was occupied.
When our tee time came, the group in front of us was still on the tee. We waited on nearly shot which resulted in a 5 hour round. The group in front of us was waiting a lot, so it wasn’t just one slow group.
The greens and fairways and bunkers were in good shape, but the tee boxes were really beaten up.
Overall, the perfect weather of one of the first real fall days in Texas made for a nice round, but the slow pace was a black eye. I won’t be going back to Avery any time soon.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game. We will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Avery Ranch Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.
Excellent Country Club quality and feel
Fantastic.
I visited from Dallas area on my vacation from work and this was a great course, great experience and the best to end a 6 day 6 round vacation.
I felt like I was in another country only traveling 3.5 hours by car.
I have already recruited my foursome for us to take a buddy trip to play Avery Ranch.
I have family in Round Rock and will be playing this course everytime I visit.
Excellent course and Greens. Thank you

I love this course, but...
I am a firm believer that the better the golf course is, the more consistent the pace of play should be. There is a sign at the first tee box that states "Pace of play is 4 hours". My round took 5 hours and 29 minutes, not 4 hours. I saw a marshal driving around the course, I don't know if he really tried to push the pace of play at all. My group had to wait about 5 minutes per hole to hit, exactly equalling about 1 hour and 30 minutes of delay. I am about to become a member of this course and if it stays like this, I will only be able to play during the week to avoid the traffic. I know that more people are playing golf now since the pandemic began, but it should not be an excuse to play slow round, frustrating rounds at a premium golf course.
Thank you for your review. We will pass along your positive experience and feedback to our team at Avery Ranch Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Not bad
It's a pretty good course. The overall condition is good and maintained well. Will go again while it's only 10 minutes away.
Hello. Thank you for visiting us at Avery Ranch Golf Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
No Management
Course is in OK shape. Greens are rough. Pace of play is brutal. No marshals, no one to speed things up. HORRIBLE

perfection
All tee boxes and all greens were in tiptop shape. Fairways were in good condition. The just laid the rye grass seed around and on the greens so that was a minor issue. Early on in the round several of those greens were drenched in water. So that can be a challenge around the greens for chipping and putting. But otherwise in excellent condition.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Avery Ranch Golf Club.
