Really coming along!
we heard a lot about Sand Canyon since it changed owners and name...frankly, the reviews were all over the place, from “fantastic” to “avoid at all costs...”. We found a 50 a man Sunday rate, so my regular foursome snagged it. We are avid players who play all over SoCal, and we are muni players...the handicaps range from 8 to 24, and two play from Blues and 2 play from Whites...so what I am trying to say is that we are players...we know golf...so here is the review: the layout and views are nothing short of spectacular! Almost every hole is stunning! The comditions range from good to borderline poor in spots, but they are really trying. We played winter rules so all was well...the greens were slow but good, wih the exception of a par three on the back side with a horrendous “auto 2 putt” temp...also we experienced something we have never seen - on an otherwise beautiful hole and green, there were three foot high foot wide piles of sand...very odd...now for the add ons - breakfast was solid, if not fancy...best part was Bridgette, who was a true delight working counter...the starter was terrific, and the pro shop is first class...didn’t use or even see the range, and the putting green was closed. Clubhouse is spectacular and opulent. Appeared to be a very nice bar and grill upstairs, but was not open to service our 10:30 tee time.
So what’s the verdict? Play this course and keep an open mind...they had a devastating fire a couple of years back, and the drought hurt. Is it pristine and perfect? No. Is it a spectacular venue for golf? Yes! Is it worth 50 bucks? Without question. Is it worth 100? No, not yet. So find a deal and drink it all in!
Had a fun round on Friday afternoon
The conditions were fair, but some greens are in repair. The course offers excellent challenge. Most drives are a practice in target golf. There a variety of different size and sloped greens. The bunkers were firm though. Our threesome played a decent pace. We never caught the group in front nor were we ever caught by the group behind. If you are okay with 90 degree weather on a weekday, 1 pm is the time to go.
A lot of work has/is being put in to course
It's not yet at level of Robinson Ranch in its prime but it's getting there. Course is very playable with fairways filling in and most greens roll true. Still some thin spots on a few fairways. Owner and pro are very passionate about their course. To think they had to overcome the worst trifecta a course could face, drought then fire then flooding, and still have a playable course is pretty amazing. This course will just get better and better as time goes on. Will definitely be back.
Mountain 9
The greens on the mountain 9 are not ready for play yet. The layout is fantastic on this 9 but still under construction
Great Day!
Play is always well paced, staff is very friendly, and I find the track challenging but fair. I always enjoy a round at Sand Canyon.
Excellent value for the money. Keep up the good work.
A classic challenge
I am so happy Mr. Lee rescued this classic, iconic course. I would love to see the greens get crazy fast again, but the improvements to the course have been user-friendly, it was a joy to play!
Course lay out
Water saving course. Less fairways. Good size course.
Greens are in good shape, rolled pretty well.
Some tee box & Fairways need to be improved but all in all, great condition. Will not disappoint it.
Fun Time
Played Sand Canyon Valley course front 9 and Mountain course front 9. Weather coming in from Palmdale looked like it would be windy and overcast. At the course the weather and temperature was excellent until we started front 9 on Mountain course.
The Valley course was in excellent shape and had several interesting holes while the Mountain course is undergoing renovation on a number of holes We had a great time at Sand Canyon and will return again to play when I am in the area.
Slow Work and very little progress
Course needs some serious time off from play. The greens are in pretty good shape, but the rest of the course is in poor shape. The bunkers are in serious neglect and should be marked as grounds under repair. Maybe in a year or two, this course with some TLC will be back to its old luster.
First timer
It was my first time playing at This course and I had a blast with my friend the greens were great and the course overall was fun.
Getting back to Old Glory days...
With lots of water, the valley course is getting better weekly. I play Sand Canyon a couple of times a month and every time I play it keeps getting better. It's be nice to have some amenities on course, food and beverage cart would really be nice. Pace of play could be better.
Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, Robinson Ranch (I'm sorry Sand Canyon CC) is making a comeback under new ownership after last year's devasting fire. The north half of the Mountain course is gone, but the Valley course is quite playable. The greens are as good as ever, while areas of the fairways are being resodded. The sand traps have some weeds and need more sand; hopefully this is forthcoming. The driving range, which features completely shaded stalls, is now covered with a patchwork of artificial turf.
Some Changes to the Course, Nice to Have it back Open
This is the first time I have played since the course reopened. I had probably played the Robinson Ranch courses 50 or more times previously. I didn't know what to expect. A few comments - NICE to have the course back open. There are some changes - especially on the old Valley Back nine (now called Desert) - so many trees are no longer there. Just looks different. It also looks and probably is easier without so many trees. The owner is spending some money on the course - you can see it with some of the landscaping and some of the water areas (new stonework around some ponds). Some bunkers have been removed. Some waste areas expanded. Overall a little more playable. The day I played the greens were in pretty good shape but pretty slow. The pace of play late afternoon on a Sunday was good.
I look forward to visiting again when the course is a little more "developed" but overall I was happy.

Was hoping, but no....
Course still lacks grass and is not even close to its old self. Very disappointed
A good course almost restored
This is a fine course working to restore itself to pre-fire condition. The setting, basic course design, and the greens are first rate. The fairways are not fully reestablished after the fire and years of drought, but they are close. The redesign elements are just OK. There is a lot of decomposed granite (good for water management) that needs to be landscaped---right now it is pretty ugly---and the bunkers need work. The staff is friendly. If they keep working and make a few adjustments (with the dg in particular), this can once again be a terrific public track.
Hot Deal is for 2-4 players. Being a single doesn't do me any good. Plz make it 1-4 players . Thank you
