Sierra Star greens are terrible
Patchy, sandy and bumpy greens really took away from my enjoyment of my round at beautiful Sierra Star. The bunkers have no rakes and not much sand either. There were no rakes. The course. should be in prime summer shape, which is usually stellar at high elevation (and high priced) golf courses. Come on Sierra Star!
Good course layout, great staff, greens are iffy
First time on the course and everything was excellent except the greens and bunkers. A handful of the greens are just not fit to putt on right now (and our starter did let us know beforehand). Bunkers are also pretty thin and somewhat rocky. Overall I’d go again but only if I can get a discounted rate
Great views! Fun course!
This course has its narrow areas but all in all very nice with great views. Some greens are still recovering from winter but for the most part very well taken care off
Great Course-Horrible Greens
Unfortunately; early snow melt caused the greens to become dirt. Not all greens, but enough that putting isn’t recommended…auto two putt. Oh, no rakes for any of the sand traps.
Greens in horrible conditions
Amazing views, great course, beautiful, but greens in absolute trash shape. Horrible greens
Cool course/ early season conditions
Super fun course that is tightly lined with trees. Fairways were decent for early season but the greens were very bad. Lots of them had no grass at all in large areas. Hopefully they can fix this as the summer goes on. The course is unique and has awesome sierra views.
My only gripe is the greens especially at $120.
Beautiful views but…
The course only recently re-opened for the summer, and unfortunately many of the greens are mostly dirt and sand with no grass. The tee boxes and fairways were in good shape, but I would wait about another month for the greens to actually have grass before I played here again. It’s too bad, because the views are pretty spectacular and the course has some interesting holes.
WE’LL BE BACK
After such a big winter, green surfaces were rough. But friendliness of staff (Bob, Dave, Kaden, Lila Dressler) made up for barren surfaces. These Dresslers look forward to playing a few more times this seasons on improved greens!
Greens, traps, tees.
Course layout is okay, big gap between black and blue tees. 6700 vs 5900. Yea, I get the altitude and as a single digit handicap 6700 really is okay for me but my buddy struggled. The big issue is the greens. When wee played they were in full bloom and really hard, but not fast. Whoever laid them out must have thought two tere greens with false fronts, backs, and elephants buried underneath for humps would be a good idea. Not so much. Clown golf. Not worth the late hit price of $99. Won't be back. I'll stick to my country club where greens are fair and fast and there's actual sand in the bunkers.
Magnificent layout
Super layout amongst a Californian pine forest. Tight at times and 8000ft of altitude plays a defining role in club selection.
Only marked it down due to the greens having been cored recently but generally the course played well.
Fabulous finishing quartet of holes, amongst the best I have played on any of the 4 continents I have played.

fun track
Fun course in a beautiful place. This course is not as narrow as staff earn about. Don't be afraid to pull out the driver.
A shining star
Played in four hours on a Thursday morning. The course has character and sufficient defenses to challenge low handicappers. On the short side - 6400 from the blues and 6700 from the tips - couple that with thin mountain air and long hitters will salivate. But beware, this course requires precision off the tee. If you insist on hitting a driver or even a three wood off the tee you must be able to shape the ball. Don't let your concentration lapse as you take in the incredible scenery. To score low, you will have to accurately place your approach shots on multi-tiered and heavily contoured greens. This track is loaded with mountain charm. Oh - and please don't feed the Bears!
Beautiful course
Along with Snowcreek, Mammoth Lakes has two of the most beautiful courses anywhere! Sierra Star winds through the forest and upscale homes and condos but still has gorgeous views of the Sherwins. It is really a must play and the staff is very friendly. Pace of play came to a halt after eight holes but I was a single so I was able to take some cell phone photos.
Sierra Star Beauty
Our foursome teed off in on a Saturday afternoon. We were pleasantly surprised to see the course was not crowded. We were cheerfully greeted by the staff and played a great round in just under 4 hours. The course was in great shape and the weather was perfect, warm but nicely cooled down with a brief summer afternoon shower. I would definitely recommend this beautiful course.
