Lely Resort Golf & Country Club - Flamingo Island Course

This is one well-designed golf course. Every shot has difficulty but is fair -- fairway bunkers pinch aggressive drives and green side bunkers (and occasionally water) pinch green entrances. The greens are very interesting, with large variations in where pins can be placed. There are also much greater elevation changes than on any Florida course that I have played, and these changes are put to good use.

Course was in good, but not great, condition -- greens were excellent. Rest of course will be returfed and rehabbed in coming months, and this will improve things. But the design here is the star.

Course was in dire need of a sprinkler being turned on. Most of the holes were good, but a few literally have no bailout where you don’t then have a super challenging short sided shot as a result. Would play again for half the price. It’s ok, just not worth the money.

After a super slow nine holes , my husband couldn’t handle waiting any longer. I went into the pro shop and told them what was going on. I asked for a rain check for 9 holes since we couldn’t play the back. There was not a marshal on the course either. She abruptly said no WE DO NOT DO THAT!

We will never go back there, for how much it cost it was not all that.

Lely Flamongo is a classic Trent Jones layout that should be on much better shape. Tee boxes and fairways are not cut, poor grass condition, and bare spots. Bunkers aren’t raked, have rocks. Greens a actually pretty good but definitely NOT worth $186 even in season in Naples.
